Gervinho gears up for Premier League move

Ivory Coast winger Gervinho has confirmed that he will leave Lille in the coming weeks and has set his heart on playing in England.

The 24-year-old, who has been heavily linked with Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester City, looks set to spurn the advances of continental suitors in a bid to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.

Speaking to Skysports.com, Gervinho stated: “My mind is made up, I am leaving.

“I have made my mind up. I will soon meet the club and let them know, but they understand my feelings that I want to prove myself in a top league in Europe.

“My agents are moving things as I want, people know where my future lies, it is in England.”

Gervinho helped Lille to a Ligue 1 and French Cup Double last season, but with only one year left on his contract will likely be allowed to leave the Stade Lille-Metropole for a fee in the region of £10 million.

It remains to be seen which of his proposed English suitors makes the first move with the player’s agent keeping his cards close to his chest when talking to Arseblog News yesterday.

“It is difficult for me to discuss the situation because it is confidential, but it is true that many clubs in England have contacted us concerning the availability of Gervinho,” revealed Seb Boisseau.

“For the moment he wants to think about Arsenal, Manchester City, and other clubs. It is difficult for me to comment, as you have good information and sometimes wrong information, but it is not good for me to comment, or for the clubs, or for Lille.

“For the moment it is confidential, and we will wait until Gervinho makes an agreement with one club.

“I think a decision will be made regarding his future by the end of the week.”

Since Bendtner wants out we should look for a player swap and cash deal. We don’t need to stockpile strikers with a 4-3-3.

Lequipe.fr published an article this morning wherein Gervinho said that he was not sure anymore.

Great job by the way, thanks!

Just whe I was really enjoying the prospect of each new arseblog news article this one gets posted. I was really pleased with all the other articles because they dealt with Arsenal stories that all had substance and where editorialized nicely for us Arse’s. This story has little to no real substance in regards to Arsenal. Save the rumors and speculative stuff for the trashy sites. Stay as classy as this service has started out.
Thanks for the service.

Hey Auclaire if you hadn’t of put that wink on your name no one would assume it’s you.

If the agent is coy & says its confidential – then it must be Arsenal as secret negotiations are more Arsenal than anyone else!

I say get him if he’s cheap (10′ or so) but we need to worry more about of left back situation if Clichy leaves, then what ? We are stuck with Gibbs who is injured most of the time…. we should be going after Leighton Baines (best english left back right now) or Jan Vertonghen (perfect partner for Vermaelen as they know each other from the Belgium team and Ajax), don’t you think ?

CHS26

I agree. Baines is getting better and better, and a Vertonghen/Vermaelen constellation would be fantastic!

Gunners should be going for Miroslav Klose. Yes he is 32 but Wenger says he needs experience. A brand name player will keep the want-aways happy. He’s experienced at the highest levels of the sport, a proven winner, deadly clinical finisher, aerial ability and world class technique and movement. And best of all for Wenger, he’s available on a free! Give him a 2 year contract and bench him if he can’t hack it anymore. His wages can come out of what they saved from a transfer fee.

Can’t we just sign Thierry Henry as a 22 yr old again? That’d be good huh? Sigh….

Nice one blogs, like the new news section. Also, impressed that you cut that great big forehead out of the pic 🙂 @nicolas if Clichy leaves and we acquire a couple of good centre backs; I think Thomas Vermaelen could switch to left back (his position for Belgium and Ajax)

Not to put a dampener on things, but this is the likely scenario. We will not buy him, or anyone else significant for that matter. Players will leave – Clichy, Nasri, Cesc, Bendtner, Denilson. Young players will be promoted and new players will be given a second chance. The is is the Wenger way. If it works in the long-run, it will be a stroke of genius. And who are we to judge? Wenger knows far much more about the game and what the team needs than any of us. Why do you think he brought in Silvestre? Everyone thought… Read more »
