Van Persie pays homage to Gervinho’s ‘extra edge’

Robin van Persie has paid homage to Gervinho’s quality after the Ivorian international laid a brace of goals on a plate for the striker in Sunday’s win against Stoke City.

Having already scored the opener for the Gunners following a great assist by Ramsey, the summer recruit from Lille launched two devastating dribbles against Tony Pulis’ defence before twice finding his captain who promptly put the game to bed.

Speaking to the Arsenal official matchday programme ahead of this evening’s Carling Cup tie with Bolton the Dutchman stated:

“I think the real difference on Sunday was Gervinho – he scored a really good goal in the first half and obviously set both of mine up.

“Two big assists and a big goal in a game like that against tough opposition shows that he capable of doing big things. He has so much ability in his body, and a certain way of changing his speed in the middle of a movement that lets him get away from people.

“That gives him an extra edge, and he used it very well – I’m really pleased.”

Extra edge on his FOREHEAD OHHHH!!! Finnally someone who links up well with Robin hopefully this continues.

The first games of the season Gervinho had a couple of delayed passes to RvP wich cost some real scoring chances and The Dutchman looked pissed with Gervais, but all sorted now !

Gervinho is definitely a big plus for us – he has looked dangerous from the first game (before he was sent off, that is). He runs at defenders, and does far less of the “tears down the side, pulls up, passes it back to Rosicky in the center”, you know, what we’ve been doing for the last 4-5 years.

While he is not particularly good at holding the ball up, and he hasn’t quite got his timing right yet (last two assists aside, of course), he is a very decent summer pickup for us.

I love the fact that gervinho always thinks he can beat his man and score. He has balls almost as disproportionately large as his forehead. I think we’ve lacked that killer mentality of the last few years and he isn’t scared to shoot. Looks to be the bees knees.

I’m loving the positivity this evening. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big cynic when it comes down to it, but even I believed that when Muamamambbababa(?) scored this evening, the Arse would come good. And I even believed we’d hold out for the win – I’m actually happy tonight. But I’m loving the fact even more that RvP has gone out of his way to praise a fellow teammate and partner (Not like that). It almost seems like he might realise that signing a new contract with us would be the best thing to do. Imagine that, Robin. Sign… Read more »

Surely RvP signing a new contract would convince new players to sign for us as we have kept, arguabley, our best player and that our team just wants to get better. You’d then think that Arsenal want you as you would only improve them further….

i just pray and hope that they both stay fit from injury (more so rvp) coz it seems as though there starting to have a good understanding together. who knows how we’ll end up at the end of the season if they really start to click! as i think blogs said we’re only 4 points off what we were on last season so its coming good and as we all saw at the weekend with some of the other results anything can happen!! COYG!! WE ARE THE ARSENAL

Always a gooner

I v noticed dt understanding btw them… Jst hope they stay out of injury and build on it also… Something tells me we re going 2 v a very good season to look back on @ d end…

Gooneropolis

Most likely premature, but it looks like the boss has found another Ligue 1 gem built for the Arsenal.

Now about that second striker…

even though i think Nasri is a quality player, i think Gervinho (who is his replacement arguably) will be a more efficient player for us. he already has 3 times as many assists as Nasri got in the whole of last season. I also think his style of getting beyond the defence and running onto the ball as opposed to playing infront of the defence could be better for us. Of course i’d rather Nasri had stayed, but when Gervinho starts flying (he must be close to it), he will be better i’m sure. Also really enjoyed seeing Arshavin in… Read more »

Am I the only one who thinks Gervinho could be a decent Sylvain Wiltord lookalike if he gave his forehead a bit more exposure and shaved off his locks?

Just a thougt…

Steven Baptiste

I think if he dyed his hair blonde, we could switch him and Sagna around at half time without many people noticing….

GaryFootscrayAustralia

Maybe if he rocked a Chi – Lites mini – microphone on his head like Sylvain used to, instead of the Rick James ‘do he’s got at the moment.
