Arteta: we deserved it

Mikel Arteta. Spaniard. Lego hair. Damn fine footballer.

And he believes that Arsenal deserved their 2-1 win over Newcastle last night, despite having to wait until the 95th minute to get the winning goal.

The Gunners had plenty of second half chances and Arteta was quick to praise his teammates for not giving up.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, he said, “We all keep believing, we had the chances and thankfully at the end we got the points. All credit to the team, we never give up even when we’re losing, and the crowd as well has been absolutely fantastic.

“We deserved to win the game earlier, we had chances to put it in the net before, and it was tough, but as I said kept trying, putting them under pressure and the energy today was top drawer.

“We are now only one point behind Tottenham and three ahead of Chelsea, so we are in a much better position than four or five weeks ago. We are really happy.”

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has played down the row between Robin van Persie and his Dutch colleague Tim Krul.

The Newcastle stopper didn’t take kindly to being told to ‘Take your time now!’ by van Persie after Arsenal scored the winner, and there was something bubbling between the pair all evening.

“If it’s history from Holland or it’s today’s story I don’t know,” said Wenger. “I will find out, but I’m happy he stayed yellow and didn’t become red.”

Quite why van Persie would have been given a red is beyond me. He wasn’t the one time-wasting all evening and didn’t come all the way out of his goalmouth to confront an opponent.

Arseblog News has a theory – it’s that Krul was quite happy to delay things until they needed a goal, then didn’t like being reminded that it was his time-wasting that brought about the five minutes of injury time in which Arsenal scored.

Some people are very precious, you see, and van Persie simply reminded him that football is a game that can come back and bite you in the arse.

Sometimes, as Robin reminded the Newcastle keeper, you have to be Krul to be kind.

Brilliant last line!

Eric Irish gunner

First line better ( Lego head) haha classic it’s the same after 90 minutes

JamesAFC

RVP is a boss. Tim Krul can fuck himself. We’re coming for the scum in 3rd…

etteJ

Perfect lego hair,*Swoon*

Trollsene

He troll who he wants, he troll who he wants, Robin van Persie, he troll who he wantsssss!!

D arsenal

i really dont think its a smart move by krul to anger the unleashed tiger in RVP. you know what will come to you, you time wasting fool. #up the arsenal

Mental Strength

As I said, it was thanks to Krul we got those 5 minutes and that much needed goal.

DELS

What a Krul, Krul way to end the game but that’s football. Up the Gunners.

Mooro

What impressed me most was RVP’s reaction, which was to laugh in his face. Not so long ago, a less mature Robin may have got involved, raised his hands and got sent off by shaven bollock head.

Another demonstration, if needed, that he fully realizes what being skipper means and the responsibility that and his form has placed on him.

Sure he’ll still iron him out when the Dutch get together though. And why not?

Ross

Some people are saying what vP did was classless….thats exactly what a Captain is supposed to do. Stand up and fuck all who stand in our way. Let them know. His loyalty is to his team and fans, everything else is superfluous. Getting the crowd into it….that sent shivers down my spine. Tell me the person sitting next to you wasn’t absolutely screaming his name after that.

Tobocop

I agree. And there’s a difference between having class and being a chicken. Arsenal = class. Krul = tool. And tottenham are chickens, even to a degree that they felt they should have one in their logo. And standing on a basketball? … I’ve never understood that. Anyway, St Totteringhams day will come.

Camilla

That’s pretty much what Gary Neville said.

I’m liking the bloke more and more. From the way he talks about RVP and Arsenal, it’s almost like faith played a Krul trick on him and kept him from being a gooner.

Camilla

Oops, fate*

Nick

LMAO @ Lego Hair! I loved watching Mikel hold off RVP while smiling and laughing at Krul.

Glad we broke our streak of having players sent off against Newcastle.

Mind the gap Spuds!

argonaut

They both got yellows because they had already been warned about the arguing earlier in the match. It was thoughtless of RVP to go and get himself booked when he didn’t need to. We’d already won the game at that point.

TomC

Objectively you’re right of course but my view is that a yellow is a worthwhile price for the strong leadership and the “fuck with Arsenal and you fuck with me and you don’t want to fuck with me” messages that RVP sent Chinless Krul and the rest of the PL with all of that.

Sometimes you’ve got to stand up and dish it out.

Nubbles

But then again, you have to remember we had Howard Cunt as ref yesterday. He books for the most trivial things anyway, let alone someone (verbally) defending himself and the team.

Arseblood

Hope we dont play The Geordies away too early next season!

Trollsene

You’re scared of them? We aren’t chickens, mate. Unlike our next-door neighbors.

Naija Gunner

“Some people are very precious, you see, and van Persie simply reminded him that football is a game that can come back and bite you in the arse.”

I love that *smiles*

And also football can be krul at times, especially when you cunt around wasting time needlessly.

Rodders1971

Krul almost rhymes with tool…how very fitting!

Arsmart

With RvP+Vermealen at the head.. I expect we’ll be getting use to
These antics!!! Bring it on I say!… Letting scum know the Arsenal r not to be messed with never did Vieira or Adams any harm!

Alex

Lately football has come to bite opponents in the arse. Against Sp*rs with Bales’ dive. Then Liverpool’s Suarez dive. Now Krul’s time wasting. Just great!

SDDutchGooner

What a dumbass! Having a go at RVP can’t be good for his international career. This here dutchman says “go fuck yourself krul!”

feygooner

Ummm RvP doesn’t select the team and even if he did I’m sure he wouldn’t leave out a player out of the national team because of time wasting in a domestic league.

kc

arteta has been class all season. couldn’t get my head around people saying he was a “poor man’s fabregas” when he came. he plays a completely different role, and does it brilliantly.

only wish we had brought him in earlier.

NimrodHunter

“The Newcastle stopper didn’t take kindly to being told to ‘Take your time now!’ by van Persie…”

So that’s what was said? Sheer class RVP!
