Boss ready to ‘go for it’ against Milan

Arsenal face AC Milan in the Champions League tomorrow evening, 4-0 down from the first leg, and with qualification looking rather unlikely.

There are those who suggest we play a weakened team in order to avoid injury to our most important players before we head into the final stretch of the Premier League campaign, while others would point to the fact that we don’t play again until Monday so should put out our best team possible.

It does appear as if some change is inevitable, but whoever is selected, the manager is ready to try and claw back the four goal deficit. Speaking to the official site, Wenger said, “We want to make the impossible possible. From the first leg it looks impossible but we have to have a real go, play with belief and think we can do it.

“You never know. Maybe I will change the structure of the team to go for it and see if we can put them under pressure and score some goals.

“We have nothing to lose. For us to find the right balance between having to completely go forward and not concede a goal will be the difficulty for us because they have talented players.

“We have a lot to answer for and to respond to in the second leg. Everyone expects us to be out, but we are not yet, we are still in there.”

And he joked that the injury problems, and knocks picked up at Anfield, might force his hand when it comes to the team selection.

“We look decimated after the game. I don’t know who will be available on Tuesday night. Maybe I will play with six strikers as we have to score goals!”

Unleash the 4-0-6, Arsene!

Why not give the reserve team a chance? just call up an entire reserve team and ask them to play a high tempo pressing game like Barca reserves did against BATE and thumped them 4-0.

I know its not the same. But worth a shot.

GoonerNugget

Because 60,000 fans are expecting some sort of response from Arsenal. We have some talented players coming through but I don’t think our reserves will do cut it.

As I said, just a thought. I would prefer to have the first team fit and healthy for our EPL games as there is a big chance for 3rd place.

Then we can rebuild in the summer knowing the CL place is secure. I have doubts that our already injury wrecked squad can challenge for UCL as well. I fear RVP getting injured.

Then again, If our 1st team can overcome Milan. I will gladly eat my words.

Anon

might as well put in almunia as keeper in that case

Dave Gooner

How many did we score in each of our last 2 home games?

Milan think they have already qualified. But they haven’t, and we have nothing to lose.

Go for it. COYG!!!! Fuck yeah!!!!

George

Play Sczc as a striker. Pat Rice too.

feygooner

I would love to see Szczesny as striker 😀

Fatgooner

The great thing is that after Tomorrow we don’t play again until next Monday, so we might as well field our strongest side and go for it.

Scoring four against Milan is certainly not impossible – we have the best striker in the world right now – the problem is that I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet.

It’s a shame that we didn’t get an away goal in Italy.

Comedian

Ac milan are not that strong in away games and if pressed they do fuck up i saw their one game in group stages away match dont know the name of opposition but once under pressure they are beatable.
Now fielding a strong team at start makes sense but if the impossible possible doesnt look possible we should throw in Ju young Park the guy needs some playing time on pitch.

Comedian

As to field a strong team i would have like most chosen ox over theo but given midfield prob may be ox plays cam would love to see that but want theo switched at left winger rather than right atleast come inside from the left because even in the pool game he showed he cant hold on or do much with the ball when played at right and every time sagna has to make a run in wide.

Matt

Do we have 6 strikers?

feygooner

Robin Van Persie is equal to 3 strikers, for the rest, Walcott, Gervinho and Arsh-oops.

So, no, we don’t.

HR

sagna, vermealen, koscielney
song,
arteta, rosicky,
chamberlain,
walcott, van persie, gervihno

Comedian

Are u suggesting Van persie be the keeper ?

Master Bates

Do we have six Strikers?

1-RvP
2.Park
3.Chamakh
4.Afobe
5.A reserve kid
6.A cone?

Arsenal did score 5 goals in 25 minutes without conceding against the Spuds. We scored 3 goals in 16 minutes without conceding against Villa. Sp*rs are maybe a better overall outfit than Milan (they did knock them out last year), so if we play with that intensity at the start of the game, you never know. We have shown this campaign that when we play with intensity (pressing, quick passing) no team can live with us – obviously we have to be at the top of our game from the outset for it to work. I think we, the supporters,… Read more »

Theres a whole lot of pressure off for this match, the whole world thinks were out already. If milan turn up a little complacent and we get in our groove then who knows. Let’s fuckin go for it, it aint over til it’s over…

God, I am willing to go bald if go through. Just make it happen. PLEASE!!!

*if we go

snowytunnel

As much as i want to believe the impossible is possible, common sense says we have no hope. The damage was done in the san siro a few weeks ago. Whilst the thought of doing what we did against Villa or the spuds (ie have a mad half hour) sends a tingle down my spine the reality i think is that we blew it. Therefore, i honestly believe we should play the youth team (or something close to it) I am firmly of the opinion, that risking a single first team player is a risk not worth taking. This Arsenal… Read more »
