RVP: I’ll score when I want…except if…

Robin van Persie insists he’s not worried about not finding the back of the net, despite not scoring in nearly a month.

The Dutchman, who has been nothing short of prolific for nearly 15 months, last scored against Newcastle United on March 12th but has since seen a combination of great goalkeeping, poor (in relative terms) finishing and the woodwork deny him the chance to add to his 26 Premier League goal tally.

Speaking to the Arsenal official matchday programme ahead of Sunday’s win over Manchester City, Van Persie spoke about the importance of having an all-round game.

“I’ve always said that I don’t have to be scoring goals to be pleased with my form.

“Of course it’s always nice if you can score too, but for me football is not about just scoring goals.

“I want to play well and help the team, and I’m just happy with that little pass to Theo before the goal against QPR for example.

“I want to be decisive and helpful to the team, whether that’s making a pass or scoring a goal.

“Of course I do want to score as well, but against Everton I hit the post, against Villa there was an unbelievable clearance off the line, and against QPR the keeper made a really good save.

“Normally out of those three chances, at least one would go in.”

Having seen Thomas Vermaelen somehow deflect his first half header off the City line, and having watched a second effort hit the post, let’s hope that seeds of doubt are not starting to germinate in RVP’s mind.

Thankfully, having spent months of the season fending off suggestions that Arsenal are a one man team, the rest of the squad have really stepped up in recent months to prove that they can make the difference during squeaky bum time.

RVP for a hat-trick against Wolves.

Alex

4 goals, considering he hasn’t scored in 4. One can wish…

Kimbers

If he’s doesn’t score against Wolves I’ll definitely be surprised

DB10**

worried you mean..

Sandeep

He has been in supreme form this season. I hope he signs an extension and stays here for the rest of his career. Love his attitude and character.

RVP – You are a fucking LEGEND !

Mina Kirollos

RVP was very unfortunate not to score on Sunday. Vermaelen’s clearance was epic, haven’t seen many of these before but it brings to my mind Bendtner’s clearance that day against Liverpool at home in the 07/08 Champions League season, anyone remembers that ball?

HR

Robin basically scored a virtual hat-trick against Man City & as long as we’re winning that’s good enough for me!
Although I would hate it if Rooney caught up with him this season…

GoonerNugget

So much of RVP’s game goes unnoticed. Defensive work on corner, the focal point of when the team press, picking up the ball in those 9 and a half areas, and his movement pulls defences all over the place.

What a man.

kuyt?

Ebouefan

On another day the ball could have crept into the goal in all of these games he didn’t score in.No big deal here.

Chaplin35

IF, and it’s a big IF which hopefully won’t happen and he decides to join lesser teams (like citeh) then I think this Wenger thing with players leaving our club and becoming not very good players at all might kick in again 🙂
But fingers crossed he stays with us until at least 2020 and become the greatest ever Arsenal goal scorer

Nwosu Desmond

RVP you are the man….i just cant bare to see you leave Arsenal…please don’t leave. next season will even be better…..cant wait to see poldoski assisting you.

vlado

hopefully the wolves will be just what the doctor ordered to heal this scoring drought 🙂

Mental Strength

it’s been 4 games and hasn’t scored yet. He has failed to live up to the so called “Arsenal is a 1 man team” hype. how dare he disappoint the media! Get rid of him.

The Don

we have to sell him and buy torres!!

Just kidding rvp is better in his sleep than torres

iSayed

He scores when he wants. End of.

Tenzo

I kinda get the feeling that RvP was only scoring truckloads of goals, because the responsibility fell on his shoulders. He was not only made the focal point of our attacks, but our captain as well. I think we can use the game against Sunderland at the Emirates earlier in the season, where Seb Larsson scored. RvP scored 1st, Sunderland equalised, and then after that, every other squad member got a chance at taking freekicks around the Sunderland box, and they either blazed it wide, or hit it into the wall. RvP stepped up in the final minutes, and curled… Read more »

Seriously what is up with all the trolling? You all synced up your watches so you could come out to play at the same time?

arseblog

Have cleaned up some of the comments (and replies) and banned the offenders. Is it school holidays or something?

Fucking idiots.

ScotchEggsRule

It must be idiot season. Fuck off dweebs.

And folks, please do feel free to let us know when someone is acting the bollix. We try and keep an eye on comments but it’s difficult to monitor all the time.

Voting them down is the perfect response but if anyone is going too far just drop us an email via the contact page – http://news.arseblog.com/contact/

Moo Moo Toure

Who the fuck voted this down?

Hassan

Yes it is arseblog which explained the stupidity. On a nicer note, wolves & Wigan are the perfect tonic for a goal drought. If anything, he has to score a few more to make sure of the golden boot. Watch him not score now & bag another hat trick v the Chavs

Andeeeeee

Really hope rvp stays! love him to bits even if that’s a little bit weird!! arsenal legend already! Now let’s keep third spot!

Rectum Spectrum

so long as he stays ahead of rooney, hat is my only desire. i think he’ll need at least 2 more to do that….

Highberry

What he’s going to do is deliberately not score and let Rooney overtake him, and then on the last day of the season score as many as he needs to pip him

Naija Gunner

He’ll score when he’ll score just wait and see the goals pumping in the opponent’s net come Wednesday.

COYG!!!

Glory Hunter

I have no doubt he’ll score against Wolves.
Its been written.

Gareth Bale

I will turn down Sp*rs new contract offer and become vanpersie water boy for next season!

GoonerEris

I fully expect Wenger to give RvP a rest for the Wolves game; maybe, he gets to play for the last 20minutes and scores only 1. He deserves to rest and be fresh for Wigan on Monday night (?).

Alf Johnson

That may not be such a bad idea – give Chamakh a start against the wolfs as a goal or two may bring back a bit of self confidence..?
And if it goes pearshaped and it is still 0-0 after an hour then bring on RVP…

Nikko

Robin van Persie… scores when Vermaelen wants.

opeyemi

van persie baba o carry go se la n gbadun e o

Spooner

Say that again?

Clem Olaniyi

I hate Bendtner from that day on

Dev

Wenger saying that Squillaci *cringe* and Park are in the squad for Wolves makes me really believe that Park will start and RVP will be given a rest. Unless we’re not leading by mid-way through the second half, in which case, we might have to call on the trump card.

Gooner13

That’s what makes him legend. He isn’t worried about scoring goals, he always wants to help the team.
