Jenkinson to make international decision

Arsenal youngster Carl Jenkinson will make a decision on his international future before the end of the year, according to the Finnish press.

Jenkinson holds dual English and Finnish nationality (through his mother’s side) and has played on a number of occasions for Finland’s U17s, 18s and 21s.

Finland seem keen to secure his future with manager Mixu Paatalainen visting Arsenal, and holding talks with both Arsene Wenger and Carl himself. It is believed he’ll make a final decision before the year is out.

Jenkinson made 14 appearances in all last season after his move from Charlton, but spent months on the sidelines with a back injury. Arsene Wenger had enough faith in him to start him in the crucial final league game of the season against West Brom, but he’s been told to fully rest his back to ensure he’s ready for pre-season.

The lifelong Arsenal fan recently spoke about his joy at signing for the club he and his family have always supported, and with Bacary Sagna likely to be sidelined for the start of next season, he’ll be pushing hard to convince the manager he’s the right man to fill in.

Really great crosser, will do well to study under the Bac.
Its good having more Arsenal fans in the team, Jenks, Per, Szczesny, Wilshere, Frimpong. Will go a long way in fostering team spirit now, and in the future.

I like Jenkinson, he is part of the new team we are bringing through of real arsenal fans who want to win trophies for the club, I think he has real potential and has one of the best right backs to learn from so I hope that in 5/6 years time he is an established right back for arsenal. Hopefully he goes Finland, they will probably be in less major tournaments over the summer and he won’t be surrounded by people like John terry and Wayne rooney

FredMerz

Hopefully the dark days are ending and he’ll be surrounded by the likes of the Ox, Wilshire, Gibbs, Walcott, and perhaps a few more if he chooses England.

Sean

Possible for Olympics, though Martin Kelly of Liverpool has been called up as cover to England ahead of him (and quite shockingly Micah Richards).

richards refused to be on the standby list.

Good news to Carl. I really like the lad and think he’s got a very bright future. There are pros and cons to each squad. I’d think he’d pick Finland as the possibility of more playing time for the squad would be ideal. Finland won’t be challenging for any major trophies but he’ll get valuable international experience. With England I’d think he’d be down in the pecking order for a long time. But if he’s good enough to push for a spot on England it would be more high profile and he’ll see more major tournaments to face better competition.

I’ve always thought that Jenkinson looks like a smart loner who takes the bus home wearing a backpack and solves mysteries on his own.

I was harsh on him in the first few months of the season, and while I haven’t seen anything yet to make me salivate at the very mention of his name, I don’t see any reason why with the consistent improvement he’s been showing, Jenkinson couldn’t walk into the England squad for the next world cup.

As a Finn, it would be great if he chose to represent Finland. HOWEVER, as an Arsenal fan first, it would better if he chose to represent England: 1.) More likely to play high pressure games 2.) More likely to face high quality opposition in above games 3.) Better standard of players around to learn from in above games 4.) Better sponsorship income as England player (less likely to do a “Na$ri) 5.) Able to keep an eye on John Terry (so he doesn’t have to worry about his missus) 6.) Less international travel (Home games in London, rather than… Read more »

I don’t think there’s much of a chance of him doing a “Na$ri”. For one, he is not exactly in high demand, for another, he’s been an Arsenal fan all his life. He is literally living his dream. Na$ri’s dream was to make enough money to buy a chin. That’s an expensive surgery I hear.

He made it quite clear on his first interview as an Arsenal player that he would prefer to play for Finland. Personally I would prefer he played for Finland as well because he would be able to concentrate on playing for us as I can’t see Finland in too many Euros or World Cups over the next 10 years or so.

Adam

He might belong to Sp*rs shitcunts, but I have to say Kyle Walker is a damn decent right back as well. We should convert him as Arsène did with the mighty Sol Campbell hehe
What do you think about him guys?

NornIron Gooner

He plays for and supports sp*rs. What do i think off him? Well let just say i’d rather let a fly into my house that had festered in John Terrys arsehole all season and had every intention of laying some sort of John Terryish maggot in my own arsehole, than have scum in my team let alone house/arse.

Thats what i think….

glory hunter

Pretty sure most of us would have said the same thing about Sol before he joined us!

I know where you’re coming from but never say never!
A better point would have been ‘we have Bac who’s better anyway and a very talented youngster in Jenks so no need for the scum’

wellingooner

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Kyle a Sheffield Utd fan? You know, what with growing up in that city and starting his career there…

Adam

He was born in Sheffield, and he progressed through the ranks of Sheffield United indeed. But for sure we have an absolutely exceptional left back with Sagna, and Jenkinson can only have a bright future by learning from Bac.
I was just asking guys, hope you were not offended !

NornIron Gooner

@Glory Hunter

But where is the fun in that? scum + a fly with John Terrys face on it? I’d pay to watch that. youtube the 50’s film. might even pop on photoshop and (sort off ) realize the dream.

cunt.

Spooner

Kyle Walker looks like, and ergo probably is, a full-on pikey.

NornIron Gooner

Amen.

I like Carl quite a lot, probably because he’s played for my 3 favourite English teams. Arsenal, Charlton and he spent a 10 game short loan spell at my local Welling Utd in the Conference South a less than a year before signing for Arsenal.

Arsene's Wonga

Whichever Carl chooses good luck to him.
He looks like he will be a top defender in the coming years.

cjsunny

Let him remain an arsenal player, but pls let him play for your own country of origin….
