Podolski: I’m very happy with my start

Three goals in three consecutive games, blossoming partnerships with his attacking cohorts and the inheriting of a popular Emirates ditty; there’s little wonder Lukas Podolski is enjoying life at Arsenal.

While Gooners across the globe were excited by the addition of a seasoned German international, few really knew for sure what the former Cologne man would deliver on the pitch. Would he be a left-sided grafter? A creative ‘false nine’? An out-and-out goal scorer? Well, so far, it looks as though he’s a bit of everything…

Reflecting on his first few months in London, Podolski revealed how welcome he has been made to feel in London and how Arsene Wenger’s football philosophy matches his own.

“When I came on the first day to the club everyone made it easy for me. Not only the team around the team, the coaches, the physios, the president and all the staff make it easy for me. I feel happy at Arsenal. It is good for me.

“The team and Arsene Wenger make it easy on the pitch. Last week we played very well. This is the style of football that I like – we play with one or two touches. We play straight to the front and this is the style that I like.

While the goals have been flowing in recent weeks, the 27-year-old, who netted 20 times in the Bundesliga last term, played down any talk of a goal target and early suggestions of an Arsenal title tilt.

“We have only played four or five matches and we are not ready to speak about the title or the Champions League.

“We must carry on playing like the last few matches and we must keep on fighting.

“When you are playing up front you want to score goals and like to score goals. when you score goals you are very happy for yourself and for the team.

“I don’t know about targets – we will see. We have only played four or five matches and I have three goals and I am very happy about the good start for me and for the team.

“We must keep fit and well – it is a long, long season and we don’t have a break in the winter like in Germany. So it is different for me, but I like to play football and be on the pitch.”

While it’s great to hear that the player himself is happy, it’s almost more positive to hear that the boss is equally pleased with the adaptation of his summer recruit.

“He looks happy to be here and he has integrated into the team,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“He is a happy boy, [with a] happy nature. Plus he’s a good communicator, he speaks English quite well already. That helps. Overall, he’s a positive character.

“I believe as well that today in the modern game, to be a top level player, you need to be a top-level worker first. There’s no room anymore for anything else. He understands that.”

He score when he wants!!

Brad

Its almost kickoff time against Man City, Players in their locker room getting ready and focused for the game. Arsene giving them last piece of advise for defeating Man City, when suddenly a music plays across the room, all the players rise their head curious of what the sound was, it seems to be a ringtone echoing from a locker that Arsene had put his belongings. Ox first to react and lift off the coat showing a cell phone that Arsene had forgot to turn off, immediately Podolski recognising the tone with an embarassing look on his face, as everyone… Read more »

big dawg

Top scorer in the PL and CL this season- Lucas Podolski!
Can’t wait to see him rip apart City then make John Terry fall flat on his face! What a player! Giroud to score against City InshaALLAH

Tenacious Defence

“This is the style of football that I like – we play with one or two touches. We play straight to the front and this is the style that I like.”

If it works for you, it works for us too Lukas.

Loudmouth Football Pundit

Podolski will never make it in the Premier league, I heard he couldn’t hack it at Bayern Munich on Talksport when he was young so that’s means he’ll never succeed elsewhere, the fact he scored a goal every other game for a vastly superior footballing nation to England means nothing to me. As for Per Mertersacker, he’s 6’4 and looks a bit funny, plus someone said he’s slow and that’s the only attribute that matters as a centre half, positional intelligence will get you nowhere. Can’t believe Wenger paid 10m for an international defender with 100 caps when he could… Read more »

Gearoid

Hehe, I do like a dollop of sarcasm in the middle of the day. It’s always fun to compare our transfer business to other clubs. Making a profit does not equate to weakening your squad.
Cazorla > Song, every day of the week.

RYAN.GAY.4.AFC

You sum up my opinion almost perfectly, many pundits do not know enought to pass comment on players. These two German lads got alot of stick before moving to England, those same pundits are so quiet now you could hear a mouse fart.

Agent 419 ITK

You forgot to add how bad Mertesacker was at Real Madrid, conceding so many pelanties and being really slow.

glory hunter

that was Mettzelder, but easy mistake to make.

gunner_expat

And also the way he made Zidane get the red card in the world cup, totally not well mannered!

Dick Swiveller

Exactly the same mistake that Robbie Savage made in fact, so you’re in…erm.. ‘special’ company there.

hieuving

Just can’t believe that you think BFG played for Real, just can’t believe.

Teecy

Simply brilliant sir… Brilliant

Kenyangoon

“he is a happy boy with a happy nature” haha, oh wenger!!

abdirasaq

Podolski estbalished very well in to our game instead of Giroud. Lukas has more International experience with the Germal football team. He knows how to play good every where and against good oppenents. I think if he has one season under his belt he will be unstopable.

waitressinthesky

He already is… but I like the sentiment!

ForeverYoungGun

I’m also happy Poldi, I also am.

Gunripper

I’ll get a picture of him on my penis. So that when a chic comes by i’ll say. “wanna get down with poldi, he scores good you know”. J.k

Anyway he seems a happy bloke. Arshavin said he’s the funniest of the lot. Being funny makes you popular and whem you’re popular, you settle in quickly.

Anyway, should I get that tattoo?. Dont mind me.

TeeCee

If Arshavin likes a joke, I know a great one about a football club that pays a talented but dreadfully lazy player a fortune to watch them play while stuffing himself with pies.

It’d be fucking hysterical………..if only it weren’t us.

Midfield Corporal

I was going to have ‘podolski’ tattooed onto my penis, then after some self reflection settled on just ‘Poldi’.

the only sam is nelson

Favourite Arsenal defender of all time?

Ian Ure

Dr Baptiste

Not enough space for Podolski then Corporal……

Midfield Corporal

Ian Ure, just before my time but wasn’t he supposed to be terrible.

Dr B, I supposed you’ve got Victoria Concordia Cresit on yours, along with the English translation, you lucky bugger. 🙂

Midfield Corporal

Oh yes, Sam in response to your question, Kenny Sansom. I’ve always loved our left backs, From Nelson, to Kenny, Nigel, Silvinho, cole, they have all been characters with a certain tenacity I admire. The right backs never seemed so exciting to me, maybe because I was one and found it fairly dull.

Dr Baptiste

I was going to but now it just looks like I named my penis Vic….

Kerl

Ed is more like it.

topgunner84

Loudmouth football pundit are you on crack or something? Podolski is a quality player, he had two average years with bayern went back to coln and started scoring pure goals. Not every player smashes it at evey team, bergkamp at inter, henry at juventus forlan and pique at man united and all 4 of those players went on to be some of the best in the world. So do us a favour and shut ya noise. And yeah mertesacker wasn’t my first choice, but he’s doing ok so far.

big dawg

Topgunner, we commend your defence of our German players, but please do notice sarcasm when it comes up and bites your bum.

Dr Baptiste

Wow…. just wow. I guess sarcasm isn’t one of your strong points. The way it was written even came across sarcastic, so there was less of a mistake to be made.

The Universal

Dude he was being sarcastic- pointing out the bullshitters on Talkshite etc

El Blondo

Sarcasm dear Watson sarcasm

Midfield Corporal

Look in the air Topgunner, I think that’s Loudmouths comments going over your head.

Wale

I think he will actually LOOK in the air.

Midfield Corporal

I love the thought of that Wale, Topgunner actually sat in front of his computer quizzically looking above his head….that image has really made me chuckle.

Goonersville

Ooh awkward ‘tumbleweed’

Top gunner claret faced

glory hunter

He’ll have to change he’s username or forever be tarred lol

Red and White Stripey Socks

I’m very happy with your start too. Can’t wait for Sunday.

Wiltetazorla

C’mon poldi! Brush shitty and floor ch3l5ea!

goona13

Lu Lu Lu Lukas Podolski. Fantastic player and a deadly finisher.
I bet he’s a really nice person as well. Celebrates every goal not just his but other teammates’ goals as well with passion, which is always great to see.

TeeCee

Poldi’s is happy with his start, we’re all happy with his start and Arsene’s happy with his start.

The circle of happiness is complete.

Wale

But are Cygans’ LF and FG happy with his start?

Dr Baptiste

What we do know is that it’s nothing to do with Wenger’s tactics or management that he is happy and scoring but it will be Wenger’s fault if he doesn’t score for a game or hasn’t got a smile on his face.

Midfield Corporal

In a word ‘no’ probably. I guess they would have some argument about why they weren’t bought last year and Wenger the account blah blah, Walcott just a headless sprinter yada yada zzzzzzzz.

Fatgooner

If you bother to actually read my posts then you would have seen my praise of Podolski’s brilliant free-kick last week. And my appreciation of our excellent start.

But let’s not go overboard with Podolski yet:there’s along season ahead of us.

My big worry is that Giroud has not scored yet, and that so far he doesn’t look like the real deal. We are still one quality striker short.

Dr Baptiste

We do bother to read your posts FG, that’s how we know what you and CLF are thinking.

Midfield Corporal

I’m just messing with you FG, I agree that we’re light in the forward dept, I don’t really want to see Poldi there as he’s doing a good job where he is. It’s too soon to form any opinion on Giroud though, he’s only started 3 games. There are promising signs but I say let him play 20 games then see how he’s done.

Josh

Hehe, Fatgooner finally said something sort of positive and still manage to get so many thumbs down.

Merlin's Panini

Got to say his English is fantastic after only a couple of months. There’s no way in hell I would be able to do the same. Nice one Poldi!
He looks a hell of a player too.

Midfield Corporal

Are you saying in two months you won’t be able to speak English Merlin?

Wale

For the montpellier goal, he faked to his left……..then ofcourse the keeper fell for it and he slid it to his right for the finish. I loved that one.

Rvp, I bet would have gone for an audacious chip that would have gone no higher than the keepers chin. (cough* milan)

Later he would say “I dont know what came over me, I think it was my brother who did it and if found in the same situation, I would do it allover again”. Twat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

wiltooooooord

He seems so genuinely happy to play for us hes almost always smiling and passionate. Great player, I had a few doubts but I love being proved wrong and hold my hands up. And how he learned English so well in 2 months ill never know haha

big dawg

English is generally taught as a second language in Germania, which is why many Germans speak it so well. Plus man city is going to get beat. By Podolski.

Ams

I actually love Podolski. The man is an absolute machine!

TH 14

just immagine ibrahimovic without( hair and skill)s,then he will be shelvey.

Goon Goon Goon

Lu lu lu lukas podolski!! :o)

Safety

Feed the Pod

A-Gun

The German’s start will only get better if he can score on Sunday! He will be supreming with confidence.

Jayde

Cant wait for bfg alsi to get his first Arsenal goal. I bet he rises above tevez and pokes it in. Hopefully his shoe studs when he’s all the way up there land on Milners face (it would have ofcourse been nasri’s, too bad the cunt is out, cunt!)

JD

Happy Poldi, you have to simply love that his boyish grin!

d-holio

I thought he was so so at the Euros, but he has definitely stepped it up for the Arsenal.
Does this guy have a song yet? I saw a campy German pop techno song for him on youtube called LuLu Podolski but it can only be tolerated when drunk.
I do like the LuLu though.
Can we replace the Robin Van Pursie chant with Lu Lu Podolski!!! ??

Obi-10-Kenobi

Love this bit, “I believe as well that today in the modern game, to be a top level player, you need to be a top-level worker first. There’s no room anymore for anything else. He understands that.” Please apply conscientiously to The-Ho Walcott.

hieuving

So far so good. Hope he can continue this form till the end of the season. :d

KD

Dont think anyone doubts that he will be our top scorer this season. 🙂
