Szczesny returns as Diaby is 50-50 for Southampton

Arsene Wenger has provided an injury update ahead of Saturday’s game with Southampton and there’s good news as keeper Wojciech Szczesny returns after missing two games with a rib injury. Although Vito Mannone has kept two clean sheets, the Pole is the established number 1 and should come straight back into the side.

However, the manager said that Abou Diaby was 50-50, “Diaby has to be assessed, he has a minor problem. But we will not take a risk on him.”

The Frenchman picked up a knock on international duty and given his injury history it seems sensible not to aggravate anything which could see him spend more time out than necessary.

Beyond that it appears there are no further worries after the Interlull with only the likes of Jack Wilshere, Bacary Sagna and Tomas Rosicky still on the injury list.

I think Diaby should be rested for the CL game anyway, Coq or Ramsey should get a run in the team imho.

Fairly recent Gooner

And I think that is what he’ll do, Arsene is too smart and has seen Diaby go down before to risk him. I think his main selection headache will be whether to play Merts or Kos with TV5 this weekend, the BFG will be really helpful defending against Southhamptons crosses (which they do a lot of and effectively to boot), but with CL on Tuesday would Arsene worry about BFG fatigue, with the problem that Kos hasn’t played much recently and presumably lacks match fitness. I wonder.

Hassan

Koscielny is a CB is a defender which fits the bill against Montpellier. Think we’ll see some rotation between those two CB’s

Witoldo

We shouldn’t underestimate Montpelier, I think. We’ll want to secure the three points at home and get off to a fast, comfortable start.

Wale

Le coq definetly needs to stand up and take his place. I don’t like the idea of him looking for someplace else come january.

carlos

I envisage le coq’s role as very similar to what arteta does.

does that mean putting them in the same team is a good idea?

I think I’d rather see what Ramsey can do with Cazorla in front of him, rather than being the #10 himself.

Gandalf

Agree Ramsey has looked good this far, should be giver a proper chance.
I think he will florish without the pressure on him.

Frog

NO way. Ramsey has been terrible for a long time now for us, for wales , it’s time for le coq to get a shot. if we’re going to persist with Ramsey, we are fucked.

ezigbo onyearse

thanks don vito,all hail WS1

I’m not 100% sure Szhezza should come back straight away, i mean he’s definitely the better goal-keeper and the future goal keeper of Arsenal. But what more could you ask for Don Vito to do!? 3 games 3 clean sheets. What a slap in the face to be kicked out of goal after that.

That would be my selection headache on the field.

Nick

2 clean sheets.
Szczesny played our 1st match

*Smokin'Gunner*

He has played two games, Mr Szcz kept a clean sheet first game

RYAN.GAY.4.AFC

Oh shit he was wasn’t, ok i was sat quite high up during that game and the Stella Artois didn’t really help. My point still stands TWO clean sheets!

Hassan

I wouldn’t even bother risking Diaby for Saturday. Let him recover & be ready City & Chelsea. He’s gonna be crucial for us winning in those two fixtures. Plus Ramsey deserves a chance after some excellent cameo’s
Happy to Woj back too. Top keeper

Gunripper

Yo schez!!!!, Are you ready for this?
Schez: Been ready all my life bitch!.

Shamoo

We know Wenger too well to know that Diaby will definately sit out this one. I think Rambo will do just fine.

The Truth

If, before the international break, Arsenal fans were given the chance to nominate the one player most likely to return injured, I think about 100% of them would have said “Diaby.”

Mother Reilly

He’s not afraid to go in hard and he’s certainly got the tackle.

The Truth

The Coq can do a good job in the hole.

Ferngunner

That is if he RISES to the occasion.

Finsbury Park Gooner

Let the Coq thrust up the middle and spray his balls around the pitch.

THEREISBEARCUM

I agree. Coq has shown again and again that he can handle the balls well and provide a creamy distribution right across the face of goal.

Johnnycakes

I agree, the more action the coq gets he will continue to grow and there for make Arsne a happy man.

percyofgod

Now that Wojciech Szczesny has returned what now happens to Vito’s confidence? He looked clean in the two games he’s played in.

Boris

I must have missed something. Mannone looked still tentative and shakey. H barely had anything to do. Schez should definitely come straight back in.

THEREISBEARCUM

I don’t see why it should be affected. He knows he’s a backup keeper.

Davor Suker

The greatest news is that real football is back!

Nick

Rest Diaby & don’t take any chances on him. Start Ramsey or Coq and if one’s not performing sub on the other.

Dee-jay

Let Ramsey get his fair share if the action, he looks like he’s slowly picking up his form

Dee-jay

waitressinthesky

Does he? (Not being flippant, I just hadn’t noticed.)

Finsbury Park Gooner

Thanks Vito Don Corleone Mannone, but SZCZ straight back in goal please.

TOP TIP: when playing FIFA, just shout “SHEZ!!!” in a loud and aggressive manner whenever he collects a ball or makes a save. You’ll find your opponent will start to hesitate infront of goal, upping your win ratio.

You’re welcome.
