Mannone eyes Arsenal exit

Vito Mannone has hinted that he’ll likely leave Arsenal next summer if he’s not given any playing time before the end of the season.

Deputising for Wojciech Szczesny at the beginning of the season, the Italian made 13 appearances (including nine in the Premier League), but despite a couple of promising showings did little to convince Arsene Wenger that he was first choice material.

Reduced to a place on the bench, which might be in danger with the perma-crocked Lukasz Fabianski close to full fitness, it’s somewhat unsurprising to hear the 24-year-old is open to a move next summer even though he stressed his loyalty to the cause as recently as October.

Cornered by Italian media (and translated by Sport Witness) after last night’s defeat to Bayern, Mannone is quoted as saying:

“I’ve had a long experience here, now I’m open to everything.

“If I do not play by June, I’m willing to go back to Italy or to try a new adventure in England. The important thing is to play.”

Taking the last statement into consideration it must have been a very frustrating year for Mannone. He’s older than Szczesny but not trusted to play, fitter than Fabianski but on paper behind him in the pecking order and in eager to play but, due to a scarcity of other options, unable to go out on loan. Being a goalkeeper is weird.

I think Mannone’s really good, actually. Didn’t make too many mistakes when he was thrust into the #1 spot at the beginning of the season.

Lettraggad

Actually he did they weren’t always costly , and some mistakes were costly but didnt always look like mistakes. I support any player while they are wearing our colors but there are some there who aren’t and never will be good enough. Perhaps Mannone will one day be good enough , but he isn’t now and with SCZ being of similar age and way better he wont be getting gametime. We should bring in somebody Older now who is capable to take and/or hold down the first team spot and challenge SCSZ to reach his potential.. Martinez is waiting in… Read more »

Yes, Szcz needs a serious challenger to his position, and neither Mannone nor Fabianski can provide that. An experienced goalkeeper whose presence will also help Szcz mature and develop into the world class keeper he could be is exactly what is needed.

that handsome french bloke

yeah, martinez looked REALLY good against reading.. haha
(i know, i know it was only one game)

I have to say I quite like Mannone in goal, I think he’s better than szc in some areas. He’s got better positioning, he’s definitely more vocal, and he’s a no nonsense goalie. I find Szc sometimes tries to do too much outside his position.

Jarl

See, this is what happens when can`t challenge for thropies!

Arsene4PM

Eh?? I fail to follow your logic.. Perhaps you can enlighten me on how the two things are related?

Also, what’s a thropy?

Mildly Amusing Name

I hate these thropy hunters.

Jarl

They`re not. It was a joke..

Tee

It’s a pity you can’t sub goalkeepers without one of your permitted subs. It would give young Goalkeepers much more opportunities for experience.

billiybibbob

first the pope, now this. when will it end

lemon

He’s gonna become the new Pope!

Anon

Then again Odemwingie was turned down right when he turned up at the Vatican, can’t expect much for Vito just because he’s Italian.

Ebouefan

Does he shit in the woodwork?

Arteta's perfect hair

Mannone for pope!

DoubleDoubleDouble

He can’t leave! I have loads of mafia related material to use up.

Quick Arsene, make him an offer he can’t refuse.

arseblog

I think he’ll arrange a move but at the last minute Arsenal will cancel it and keep him.

Mannone – “Just when I thought I was out … they pull me back in!”

the only sam is nelson

if only he was 10 years older he could have put van nistlerooy’s severed head in ferguson’s bed, as a warning

gooner

At least he’s not leaving for Mo Green. He’s just tired of the mattresses

TeeCee

I’ll miss being able to watch him make a save, put on a squeaky voice and say;
“That’s the way to do it!”

Arseblood

I just can’t take this devastating news….Cesc, Nasri, Song, RVP….and now Vito. Who next? The mighty Gervinho?

Goffensteinhammerfisky

About time.

pauly bear

How come a bunch of orcs like stoke have 3keepers all better than ours ! Complete joke

Johnnycakes

You bastard,you robbed my quote!

Bobs

the door’s right there mannone, don’t let it hit you on the way out.

Loud_Mouth_Soup

Well…bye.

Welsharse

I think its a shame for Vito. He’s probably as a good a keeper as Sczcesny if not better in certain ways. He’s stronger for a start. Each time he played he’d only make one error as a rule if any. Why not try him again for a while – Wenger has given the impression he needs competition for Sczcesny.

subeyr

Ahaha. Funny reading these comments . Remember when you guys were criticising him ,especially in th norwhich game , wishing that wojech to come back to full fitness . Now all of a sudden you’re Dick reading and playing the innocent role

Hatecrew

Mannone is as good, if not better, than Szczes at the moment. Give Don Vito a run of games and see what happens. It cant get any worse and Szczes looks on the brink of a meltdown. He might benefit from some reserve games to ease the pressure a bit.

LANS calendar

He had a great game against Sunderland.

it (used to be) by FAR the greatest team....

Great… even LESS competition for Sczechny… and even MORE opportunities to give interviews to journalists and make bold & cocky statements that jinx his next performance every time.

JD

We need an experienced goalkeeper in summer. But then again, we have not had a good one since Jens left. Which is quite a shame, actually.

Cary Hunt

……bring Pat Jennings back ffs!

damien joyce

I’m gonna make what some may deem a bold prediction, I deem it as a bloody dead cert. If status quo exists, i.e. selling players to replace with inferior ones, which could be quite difficult now with what we have left, and also Wenger staying in the same mould he is in now, unable to motivate/train defense and just unable to pick a good prospect anymore. Then by the summer of 2015, though it could definitely be a lot sooner, the player we are talking about with the headline “…..eyes Arsenal Exit” …..will be Jack Wilshere, mark my words, he… Read more »

Cary Hunt

I hear he will be signing a new deal in the near future for his tongue to remain at the Emptycrates until the Universe explodes.

Kolololo

Leave Arsenal, take the cannoli.

Micko

Taxi….

Why all the bitterness and insults to him?

He’s 24 years old in the prime of his career, and is not getting ANY game time. Whether he deserves it or not at Arsenal, he has every right to want to start games. If he has to leave for that then I wish him all the best, no hard feelings.

Yegor

Oh my god don’t go!

Mannoneck

Look at that neck! Impressive!

dan

Can someone explain to me how Galatasaray were able to sign Sneijder for a mere 8m? He is only 28 years old. I would have liked him at Arsenal… *sigh*

Insight

Assuming your question was not rhetorical or sarcastic, the obstacle was his astronomical weekly wage, not his transfer fee. They’re two separate expenses. Inter had to stop their financial bleeding, and they were willing to sell him cheap as long as someone else can take care of his wage.

The Grime Raper

You might have.
Wenger didn’t.

davo57

I wish all the dead wood Bendnter, Asharvin, Squillaci, Denilson, Santos, Shamak, etc would look for work elsewhere too. They won’t of course while they are getting millions for sitting on the Arse. And our manager insists he only ever signs top top quality players. If they are top top quality why are they not playing every week ?

The Grime Raper

It’s the door with the word EXIT on it.

Close it behind you.

fuzzy

i prefer him than Wojciech Szczesny actually. Wojciech Szczesny is too annoying. too much talks but failed to clean sheets.
