Wenger: Jack will get goals like Cesc

Arsene Wenger accepts that Jack Wilshere will never be a regular goal scorer but he insists the midfielder has the capability to score despite the fact he hasn’t registered in the Premier League this term.

Citing the example of former captain Cesc Fabregas, who took years to become a serious threat in and around the penalty area, the boss paid tribute to Wilshere’s willingness to carry the ball in the final third as an important quality.

“I believe it’s part of his development to play a bit more advanced,” Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“In some games, he is more comfortable deeper. I believe he has a little dribble that can get him through in the final third and the finishing will come.

“He’s a bit in a situation like (Cesc) Fabregas was for a while. He said to me ‘but I cannot score goals’, however you could see that it would come.

“Jack doesn’t talk about it, but who doesn’t want to score goals? He is more a team player than a goalscorer.

“He will never be a goalscorer, but he can be capable to score.”

Speaking ahead of the North London derby Wenger also refused to be drawn on how Wilshere’s influence compares to that of Spurs’ in-form chimp boy Bale.

Making clear that his only job was to get Jack to maximise his potential, he continued:

“Bale is the flavour of the moment. When you look at Wilshere, who will deny that this guy will get 100 caps for England? Nobody, if he has no injury.

“My worry is not to compare Wilshere with anyone else. My only worry when you are a footballer player of that talent is to become as good as you can become.

“That is the only thing that is of interest to me. I leave the comparisons to other people. My job is to get the best out of him.”

It’s certainly fair to say that if there is a criticism of Jack this season, and let’s be honest such suggestions are few and far between, it’s that he could on occasion take the responsibility to shoot more often than he does.

While being unselfish is one thing, as his goal against Swansea showed, he has the ability to be clinical playing off the strikers. Unlike Cesc it doesn’t look as though the penalty or free-kick responsibilities will fall to him anytime soon, but Arseblog News still think he should be aiming for ten goals a season at least.

Cesc started scoring regularly only when he moved in a more attacking midfielder position , so will Jack soon enough.
But a goal today from Jack wouldnt do any harm.

Porno Gil

So did Jack.. take one look at his cracker in the fa cup? .. COC ?? i forget which but giroud made the pass and it was a great finish in a game where he showed that the role in the hole is his home after playing there for the first time this season.

Goona13

That’s thing he should learn from Santi to score goals or find killer passes at the end of his fantastic driving runs from midfield.

ThaatArsenalguy

Santi scores, But also misses a fair few. That said, I’m glad he has the balls to keep trying.

Dick Swiveller

Learning a little more ambidexterity from Santi wouldn’t go amiss either, then again with a left foot like that…

Cuntger

Put him on target practice. The only time I get tired of Jack is when he has a chance to shoot but refuses. To become a great, you must improve other parts of your game that are still lacking. Good luck Genius Jack.

I hope he’s been working on his pre assist.

Jack's Right Foot

The guy is only 21, and that excites me. He will get goals, he’s looked composed in front of goal in cup games.

I am so nervous about today.

You can’t help but laugh at Sp*rs: Their team crest is a chicken on hunger strike, their best player has the DNA of a mountain gorilla and their battle cry is a strange ode to male fertility (come on you sperms!). Indeed, we will keep laughing tonight..

Fellas,

Am in London for the game and unfortunately missed out on tickets for the game. Best Gooner pub to watch it at?

Try The Tollinton or the Gunners Pub. Enjoy!

Jack be nimble…. he’s an unassuming player who feels he knows his place. We all know how amazing he will be but he’s clearly keeping his feet on the ground. Wenger doesn’t want to draw attention to a player that all those vulturing bastards at utd, real, city et al have their greedy eyes on… so he plays down Jack’s ability. As should we quietly knowing all along that he is going to be a serious player. World class in the making

“Bale is the flavour of the moment” – that flavour being rancid dog shit & burnt hair flavour.

Love the way Wenger subtly slips in the comment that Jack is English, if the press and refs are going to be xenophobic they may as well get it right and root for English rather than British.

Play them, rather than slay them.

Jack will start scoring goals once he remembers to put his legs on properly ( see photo above)

Jack will score when he starts using his right foot.

Cisco

He was banging them in for the reserves regularly so i’m not too worried, the more time he spends as no10 the better he’ll become in the final 3rd. Cesc wasn’t prolific at the start, but then he became our top scorer one season and benched torres (ha)

How the hell can giroud be our main striker? The guy, most of the time, is clueless. What the fuck are we paying bould for? Any fool knws that u don’t play a high line with fast players (madrid learned the hard way). I feel its bould that should be sacked not wenger…ok, maybe and wenger.

Mfournier

Give me a break if he is not a goal scorer AND he seems to be unable to make a final pass that will set up a goal (I mean a direct assist not like the pass to Monreal that Nacho actually converted to a assist for Carzola) THEN why is he wearing the number 10. Jack Bergkamp called and he wants his shirt back.
