French media report Arsenal deal for striker Sanogo

French radio station RMC are reporting that Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer this summer.

Back in March L’Equipe reported that Arsene Wenger and Gilles Grimandi met with the 20-year-old’s representatives and it’s now believed that a 4-year-deal has been agreed.

The French under-21 international has scored eight goals in seven games in Ligue 2 season after returning from a groin injury which ruled him out for most of 2012.

So just to clarify he’s young, French, injury-prone, nobody has heard of him and free.

We might as well roll out the red carpet now…welcome Yes Yes It’s A No Go.

UPDATE – via John Cross.

Wenger in his pre-Newcastle press conference on deal with Sanogo: “It’s advanced, but not done. He’s a big talent.”

June 1

Our signings for the summer for the summer are done.

Master Bates

I am just happy we won’t replacing any top players bar Sagna(please stay 🙁 ).

damien joyce

when do we ever replace our top players?????????????

Gervinho replaced who???
Andre Santos replaced who???
Chamakh replaced Bendtner????????

Our replacing doesn’t go too well does it???

Jasonissimo

Santi replaced Cesc. See? I can cherry pick, too.

master floda

Terry Pratchett once wrote: “multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind.” I wonder what he might think of so many question marks…

Matt

I would have agreed if you’d used a few more question marks. There just weren’t enough there for my taste.

mike

i’d move sagne to dc 3rd competing with verm. sign a dr equal to jenks and say its down to each of you to convince me who’s 1st choice over the next few months, get to it, get an established striker a rock solid dm or even 2, am 1 the only 1 who thinks 2 dms be nice? wanyama lars bender/sven bender esq

Bunburyist

Yay! The “next Diaby”!

Bunburyist

In all seriousness, we know there will be more signings this summer, of higher pedigree (RIGHT, WENGER???!!!!), and, really, it’s not a bad bit of business. His raw talent is there for everyone to see, and if it doesn’t work out, well…all we lose are wages. As someone pointed out to a United troll recently (different website): Wilfried Zaha = 16 appearances, 1 goal, £10m (rising to possible £15m). Yaya Sanogo = 7 appearances, 8 goals, FREE.

Runcorn Gooner

Pardew can’t believe a French player is not joining him but yes for Pardew it Sanogo this time
Coat please

Mulan

This chappy is a favourite of mine on Football Manager and we all know that everything on FM is always totally accurate and consistant with reality.

james

Once scored 52 goals in a season for me on FM, averaging 33 per season. We’re gonna do the treble!

yes

I read this as ‘only scored 52 goals’, and chuckled.

Arshavin's dodgy uncle

oh oh oh he’s magic…you knooow….his name is Yaya Sanogo

Gunner From Another Mother

^ Catchy!

mike

treble? pfft leage cup fa cup prem and champs league :p

jumpingcode

He actually got the job due to his links with the chairman.

Jamie

“So just to clarify he’s young, French, injury-prone, nobody has heard of him and free.”

We wouldn’t have it any other way.

The ghost of Peter Storey

Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose

Harish

He’ll probably be a long-term choice, like Lukaku to Chelsea.

The guy’s just 20 after all.

Then again, he’s injury-prone also.

*cough*

Daz

If we were playing Arsene Wenger transfer target bingo that would be a full house

El blondo

If it’s true best of luck to him. Is he the “top top quality” we’re crying out for? We dont have a great track record of signing Strikers from France on free transfers…hope this dispels that myth.

goonerbynature

He’s from Sagna’s old club, so hopefully that’s a sign of good things to come

THEREISBEARCUM

He’s also from Diaby’s old club.

[ominous music]

Beastista

When you say track record, you mean all those signings of… Chamack alone??? Just as a comparison, after we bought Jose Antonio Reyes from Sevilla on what was our biggest deal at that time, the next player we bought from the same club was…. Sebastian Squillaci. Before Mertesacker, from Bremen we had bought Bischoff. Per didnt have anywhere close to the injury problems the latter had (fingers crossed). After buying the likes of Petit and Grimandi from Monaco, we went back for… Adebayor and Park. I guess what I am trying to say is… basing a transfer track record on… Read more »

vc11

Nobody’s heard of him? Any self respecting Football Manager player knows him. Brilliant player. Cost me £22m in January 2014 on FM2011.
Now Wenger just has to sign Carlos Fierro and Khouma Babacar.

Master Bates

Missed out on Raphael Varane , and he’s been great for Real Madrid.

Cyril Washbrook

I still can’t forgive Wenger for missing out on Tó Madeira all those years ago.

James vagaBond

lmao. Fierro would surely get us the Champion’s league. Dude has bagged upwards of 70 goals for the past three seasons…Sanogo averages 40 a season…a massive flop

Merlin's Panini

What about Kurt Zouma from Saint Etienne for the defence? He’s always amazing on FM too.
I guess that means he’ll probably be David Moyes first signing for ManUre.

mike

surely you mean after baines and fellani… lol

Casimir

In FM2011 I picked up the other Auxerre striker, Anicet Andrianantenaina, for €7M in 2013. Can’t pronounce his name, but damn was he banging in 30+ in the Polish league and carried Wisla Krakow to the Champion’s League final only to have our dreams squashed by Real Madrid 5-3.

Zeddington

Babacar is a bloody FM legend.

Theo's Speed

Old habits die hard!

Alex

He’s amazing on football manager… The ass went to barca and was impossible to play against

UndercoverMancGooner

The kid’s a prospect, it’ll be disappointing if it’s our only signing up front but if we get him as well as another top striker we’ll have done well.

Gearoid

He’s 20 and he’s free.

I think we all genuinely know this guy isn’t our main signing, so I wish him the best. He may turn out to be a very handy squad player indeed!!

Kolololo

‘I think we all genuinely know this guy isn’t our main signing’
Do we? DO WE!?!?
Sorry, I’m freaking out a bit because of the Newcastle game.

Edu's Braces

It’s my own fault for reading them but just look at the cretins commenting on the Sky article. Obviously a lot of trolls but my God.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11670/8717370/Transfer-news-Arsenal-close-on-Auxerre-striker-Yaya-Sanogo

Eyann

The worst kinds of people comment on sky sports articles in my experience

GUN

We already have future talents in Joel Campbell and Chuba Akpom. Preferred a proven striker at the moment.

Apostolos

Joel Campbell isn’t cutting it, I’ve seen him play a lot this year and he’s just not good enough (For me) for Arsenal. Chuba Akpom’s awesome but he’s still probably a year or two from the 1st team. Besides I don’t mind us having 3-4 good strikers at the club fighting for a place in the first team.

Jasonissimo

Haven’t you heard? We are definitely (not) signing Wayne Rooney.

Joe

Massive talent on Footy Manager, gotta be a great piece of business!

mike

true, but don’t you get that feeling of, if it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t? just hope he dosn’t develop diaby esq injuries

Jasonissimo

I hope he doesn’t develop Adebayor-esque cuntishness.

Kasper

Haha best quote in a long time:)

“So just to clarify he’s young, French, injury-prone, nobody has heard of him and free”

femilovechild

I’m really sick and tired of hearing about these footballers in diaper that we keep ‘signing’. What’s the point of an academy if 99% of them cannot even break into the top team? Its like we are stuck in an endless loop of indecision- buy young in the hope of building for the future, yet not giving these young-ins a chance, yet refusing to buy the ready-made product that will actually help to win silverware because they are too expensive. Damn! This must be purgatory…

Mongolian Gooner

At the end of the day, players who are good enough to break into the first team will get their chance. Actually getting players from the youth system GOOD ENOUGH to play for Arsenal is very rare. So we add to that by scouting promising young players from other clubs and adding them into the mix. Surely sometimes a great player can slip through the system (I fear for Coquelin), but by and large it’s for the benefit of the Arsenal first team. We will surely do “real” business this summer and get some big names into the team, think… Read more »

George

That was a brilliant comment, completely sums up my view on Arsenal!

Matt

The academy is there to hopefully find a diamond of a player who we keep (Jack for example) the rest get a very good footballing education and (hopefully) go on to have a successful careers in football and we may get a little bit back from sell on fees etc…

It may seem like a big investment to find that one player every 2/3 years but overall it costs less than say purchasing him for £30m. (Utd buying Rooney, Rio for example)

vc11

Have you heard of a player called Szczesny? We signed him as a youngster. He hasn’t done too badly.

John

Or Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie, Alex Song to run off a small list.

Hatecrew

Not one of them were youngsters at arsenal. You are not that young when your 16.

moobs

@femilovechild

You were wearing diapers in your 20’s?

And there’s really no point in analysing your ‘what’s the point of the academy’ remark. Jack wilshere can answer that one for you.

mik

8 goals in 7 games (3 starts) – a bit disappointing record, innit? we need a goalscorer for god’s sake! wenger, get your head out of your *ss!

[…] 来源:[Arseblog News] […]

Arty's Art

IF we have signed him, I don’t think we should judge him until he plays!

IF we signed him, he’s an Arsenal player.

IndiArse

Height: 1.91m
Weight: 74 kg

Isnt he a bit light?

Arty's Art

He is a boy!

Merlin's Panini

Yeh, he’s made of graphite. Amazing what technology can do these days.

Jasonissimo

Titanium too expensive?

Merlin's Panini

I don’t think Auxerre could afford titanium

Dick Swiveller

With Fergie gone we’re taking the FA back; quick, lightweight players who can confidently dive will bring us the title.

brraappp

Yeah, stuck in a loop buying these youngsters. Like Poldi, Cazorla, Giroud and Monreal. Come on lads, this clearly isn’t a main signing so put the knives away. We always need to supplement all areas in all squads. If we need to strengthen our forward line for our young crop of players, and this guy is free and apparently decent, surely it’s a no-brainer? This signing isn’t taking the place of a bigger signing. Stop with the negativity or you can go and support Cuntski instead.

Adam

Thank you for saying something sensible. No-brainer about sums it it.

arse

We’ve been linked with him in the past if I’m not mistaken. Could be something in it.

david

If he had signed and he his impressive in goals scoring then the chap is welcome to the squad

Cyclops

Hopefully he can be as effective as Benteke in his first season with us.

MrBure

Er, the last striker we signed from France on a free didn’t work out so well…

Arty's Art

Yeah because all the French players are exactly the same

Aros

You mean the 100%-committed-17-goals-in-debut-season-disaster?

arseblog

No, I think he means the shisha smoking, oily headed, club footed mule from Bordeaux.

Aros

ah, ‘on a free’ – I’ll have to start reading the actual comment before leaving a reply I guess. Anyway, Chamack isn’t a Mule, they kick like a .. y’know, mule, he clearly doesn’t..

Chamakh

My feet are normally formed, thank you!

glory hunter

there’s nothing normal about you Chamakh

Osama

Or Chikny Robertson currently at celta vigo

Stewpot

Is he good on FM?

feygooner

Is Messi good in real life?

Theo's Bumfluff

If it is true then it seems to make sense, we don’t really have an up and coming striker coming through the ranks this year (Akpom in the next couple of seasons) and our only real striker is Giroud. This kid plus another experienced striker would give us a well rounded strikeforce in my opinion.

Chaplin35

Just shows that Arsene plays Football Manager as well, how would he otherwise know about the guy???

Savage

Maybe FM consults Wenger?

why is my name required

I pray to god he doesn’t turn out to be another chamakh.
I wish he was a ‘Henry’ type or an ‘Eduardo’ type

J0hnire

Even if he does end up to be another chamakh he won’t be on massive wages so it would probably be possible to offload him. Anyway if we do sign him don’t judge him until we’ve seen what he can do.. Saw a few videos of him in a under 19s championship a few years and he seemed very agile for such a big guy!

bran

Oi he’s got four star skills on FIFA you know what that means lad!!!

JustAnotherMong

Worse to turn out as another ‘Adebayor’ type.

Aros

Nice!
He won’t get a golden spaceship in wages and maybe a good option for the future!
I really don’t understand the negativity around this, it’s a relative riskfree signing of a Young footballer with a chance to shine.

Yaya Sanogo

No golden spaceship? This moves a no-go then.

Arty's Art

Brilliant

Sixel

In the wikipedia article about Sanogo:
“He signed for Arsenal on the 17th May 2013 on a 4 year deal for free of course, with Wenger’s record of unearthing the world’s best talent, he will no doubt hope he turns into another Henry or Anelka. One Arsene Wenger.Yep There is only One Arseeeeene Weeeenger!!”
Hilariuos.
Greets from Austria

Mills

Clearly got some talent with that scoring record. Whether he can cut it in the prem is a different story but if he’s free then he’s worth a punt. Judging his physique he probably needs to hit the gym pretty hard for 6 months but he could be a quality squad player (Arsenals answer to Danny Welbeck).

Peter

Danny Welbeck is shit.

Dick Swiveller

He really isn’t.

I’d love him here.

master floda

he might be shit, but he’s fast. like diarrhea.

meowmix

Yaya is talented, but needs to work on his hold up play and bulking up his physique. He is actually similar ( in skill/play terms) to van cuntski, and can make those galloping runs like Diaby as well.. if he stays healthy, and gets a good run of games in the U-21s, expect a good goal return.

Weng(unn)er

Reading the above comments, does this mean that even Arsene Wenger plays Football Manager? :O

Harish

He’s young, so his wages shouldn’t be ridiculous, I strongly doubt this signing will leave the sour taste that Chamakh’s did.

If it’s legit, I hope he’s useful & has a genuine aim and intention do well at the top level while wearing our shirt.

Alli radi

Hey wenger always has a variety 2 sign bt ov which he onli signs one,we dnt nid any more french players plizz ,go in 4 rooney and higuain

Jagger

Huh?

Recreational Hugs

I’m going to second that ‘huh?’ and add another huh? to anyone really wanting to see Rooney in an Arsenal kit…

Double Canister

Una make very skin tight shirts, don’t want to see that fat moronic scouse granny fucker in an Arsenal shirt ever.
Now, Hernandez – I’d be very happy if he came south to join us.

Heh

This is bullshit. I am not in the slightest moved by this. Tieing up jovetic/higuain should be high on the agenda if we want to progress!

Boycey

Chill! The season hasn’t even finished yet

Heh

I “chilled” last year and all those previous ones.

Eurazian

Sanogo looks very reminiscent of Adebayor. In a good way. By which I mean, he’s tall and skillful.

Hopefully he’s not reminiscent of Adebayor in a bad way. By which I mean, I hope he’s not a cunt.

Nicolae

For all the moaners: Koscelny much?!?

Arsene Wenger

I think Diaby and Sagna came from Auxerre as well, both quality players procured from our very own feeder club.

eleanor

At age 20 I’m pretty sure his acquisition would be more with the future in mind. And is more likely to follow the route of Joel Campbell (Lorient, Betis) or slot into the Under 21s.

But you never know. It’s a pity France Under 21 didn’t qualify for the UEFA championship in June.

Still waiting on the likes of Higuain.

Mooosiefate

Oh boy…. this otta be good…. Diaby2?

Teri maa dhi

I’d take four Diaby’s as our chances o having one fit enough will be greatly increased… its Physics!

Hatecrew

No it wont.

nii amartey

this is just a side issue but i sure hope Sunderland can disgrace the prentenders…even with our winning the last game.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22552413

Michael Rogers

I’m sorry, I don’t usually bite but has anyone saying that he needs to bulk up actually seen him play?! For a 20year old his hold up play and strength is actually very impressive! Like Lukaku in many respects.

Pete

He has started 3 games this season and scored a hat-trick in one, 4 in another and 1 in a game where he got subbed off at 89 mins.

The other 4 games this year he was brought on late in the second half and didn’t score.

Martin

He’s quality on FM. Buy him everytime!

OGL

Thank you arsene

now we need a 16 year old GK,a 12 year old RB,a 15 year old DM and a 17 year old CM.

All should be free

once again,thanks arsene

Heh

Got the wrong Yaya, abit of Memory loss there Arsene?

Telipot

Yeah! Back to business.

“Young, French, injury-prone, nobody has heard of him and free” – sounds like cocaine to Wenger. Got to have it!!

Savage

If he scores a few of those overhead kicks for us…

Juice

Hehe made my day for being so Wenger.

But really this cant bother anyone.. Doubt his wages will be too high and he might either turn to great goalscorer or at least solid enough to sell him and not loose anything or make profit.

Wish him best of luck of course, especially with the injuries.

Stuart

I personally don’t see this as being too much of a catastrophe of a signing. Bendtner, Chamakh and Park are clearly out the door, Wenger just doesn’t fancy them. Giroud, Podolski, Walcott and Gervinho represent maybe 2 full strikers between them, (I’m not saying they’re not complete players, but Walcott, Gervinho and arguably Podolski aren’t fully fledged strikers), meanwhile the United side that just won the title had 4 recognised senior centre forwards. This signing is going to be for NOTHING, meaning it shouldn’t affect our other transfer activities. Surely it’d be good to have say Giroud and Higuain competing… Read more »

trimi

I totally agree.

P.s. I’m on a phone and the screen is too small so I accidently thumbs you down 🙁

Juice

Also – with Chamakh,Bendtner,Park, etc all with no future we need some players like that to play in the cup and fight for the first team =) wouldnt mind getting one more like that – provided we sign some complete striker as well 😀

Stuart

Exactly! I really hope we sign him, but as an upgrade on the likes of Joel Campbell, Wellington Silva and Afobe, who I don’t think are quite good enough to be Arsenal star of the future, whereas this dude likes like he might be the real deal…

Matt

I’ve performed extensive YouTube scouting on this character, and he looks an absolute beast. Scoring overhead kicks for fun and has a decent physical presence. Give him a few years and he could be another of Wengers’ master signings…. if not, hey, he was free anyway! He won’t be another Chamakh because he isn’t an established player, and therefore won’t be on ridiculous wages. I don’t know what some of you lot are complaining about.

Sigh

If you don’t know what people are complaining about then you haven’t watched the last 6 to 8 trasnfer windows and/or Arsenal seasons…
