Campbell weighing up loan options

Despite a potential tie-up between Arsenal and Real Betis, which was thought to include a clause about Joel Campbell spending another season on loan there, the player’s agent has confirmed no deal is done yet.

Campbell’s agent, Joaquim Batica, acknoweldged the Betis interest, but told the Spanish press, “There are other clubs in Europe who have asked about the status of Joel.”

Reports in the Mirror earlier this week suggested that Crystal Palace might be interested. Having lost Wilfried Zaha to Man United, there’s space in the squad, and it would give the Costa Rican Premier League experience.

However, Batica says no decision will be made until they’ve had a chance to speak to Arsenal.

“We are analyzing the situation,” he said. “There has been a first contact, but until Arsenal decide we will not do anything.”

While Campbell probably does not qualify for a work permit based on the amount of games he’s played for Costa Rica, one more season in Spain should give him EU citizenship, which may influence the decision.

Actually, I think he may be eligible for a work permit. I swear someone said yesterday that he’s played in 80% of Costa Rica’s fixtures. Could totally be wrong, however.

Jedi Master

Funny how man united just signed a uruguayan u20 international and I have heard squat about a permit.

Harish P

Hopefully the work permit situation gets sorted ASAP.

hmmmdoughnuts

If he’s eligible then it has to be a loan in England surely?!!!!

Let’s see first hand if the guys got what it takes.

LANS

Would be great to see him in the premiership
One day we’ll eventually see him with the cannon on his chest I’m sure

Work permit rules state a player should have played in 75% of competitive internationals within the 2 years of the date if the work permit application. He played no part at all in the copa centroamericana so missed 5 games there. In between this he played in 11 of 12 WCQ matches so has played in 11 of 17 competetive matches in the last 2 years. The CONCACAF gold cup is coming up so even if he plays all 3 matchevery will still only be 14 of the last 20 which isn’t 75%. It looks like another season in Spain… Read more »

Don’t think he should come back at this point. With Giroud,a new Striker(Higuain hopefully) and Sanogo depending on how good he is opportunity might be limited for him. It would be nice if his work permit issues get sorted and we could loan him to another club in PL

Rictastic

They should look to loan him out to a BPL team like West Brom or Swansea. We’d be able to see him now and again whilst assessing if he’s got something to add to tthe Arsenal. Plus the added benefit of reading ” On loan Arsenal striker downs Tottenham” 🙂

frrrred

We could loan him to the england under 21’s they could do with a goalscorer. Zaha who?

The Noise

Yawn… Yet another for ‘the future’ when the ‘now’ needs urgent attention…

“While Campbell probably does not qualify for a work permit…”
That tells you everything you need to know about the Mirror and its Palace rumour.

GayforHenriLansbury

It will be easy to follow his development at Crystal Palace. And the fact that they have a slot free in the attack. However, going to back to Betis for another season won’t be bad though, but it is likely that the competition for the attacking places might intensify in our squad. His chances of making it at the Arsenal would be very bleak then.

DoubleDoubleDouble

At this rate he’ll qualify for a testimonial before we get to see him in an Arsenal shirt.

A loan to Palace would be ideal. Blood him,in the premiership, he’s get a lit of game time, and he can smash sp*rs confidence on 1st day if the season.

Watched Campbell in action against Mexico last week, didn’t quite score but came sooo close on numerous occasions. Does look like a great, Wenger-esque raw talent. Worth persisting to actually acquire. Have to say I really don’t understand why theres all these rules that make it so hard for a professional player to get a work permit, but whatever, hope we can get him a loan in England sooner rather than later!

Tapscotts testicles

Hope Joel remembers his Wellington(s) when hell freezes over and he gets his permit….oh and also that he he doesnt get his permit via silvinho’s agent…
