Olivier Giroud has praised new boy Mesut Ozil for his influence on the team.
The German scored one and created the second for the French striker, and Giroud says he is exactly what the team needed to make a step forward this season.
“Mesut especially tonight was unbelievable. It is really simple to find him on the pitch and I have a really good understanding with him.
“He provided the assist for my goal. He knows the right thing at the right moment. This is his first goal, but he has provided a lot. I think it was his fifth or sixth assist since he joined. He was the man we needed to really improve our side.”
Giroud’s goal was his 6th of the season and the former Montpellier man’s all-round performances have been excellent. Last night saw him hold off a strong Napoli defence time and time again, and he puts it down to feeling more at home in his second season at the Gunners.
“Since the start of the season I maybe have more confidence and I am settling well now, in the team and in my new English life. I feel really good on the pitch and really want to improve myself and the team.”
Arsenal now face a Dortmund double-header, enticing ties for fans and neutrals alike.
“We always want to win and to keep this mentality of winning every game. Dortmund will be really tough games for us but we are really confident and if we keep it up, I think we could do good things in this Champions League.
“The team is playing well and we are on a good run.”

Whatever Özil has done to this team’s confidence, more of the same please! Massive well done to Wenger and the boys for lifting spirits in every corner of the club. And the fans are reacting perfectly; nice to hear “We’re the North Bank/Clock End/East/West” doing the rounds last night.
The dirty work was already done in the years past, now everything’s clicking together, and the arrival of Ozil has renewed a sense of pride amongst the supporters as he is as close to fucking supernatural as it gets.
All this without Cazorla, Podolski, Chambo, & more recently Walcott, plus with Verminator waiting to get back to his best….quality depth, oh man how long have we not met!?
Think our confidence was already back before Ozil came – he just solidified it. A lot of credit has to go to Wenger and the rest of the squad.
Great to see the team members being so positive about each others contribution to the current effort. Although I’m a big fan of our attacking, our defending has just reached a higher level. Closing people down the moment you lose the ball just illustrates how much the team wants to win something this season.
the signing of ozil is working wonders in this team.long may it last. We can start talking about going unbeaten next season.

Everyone banging on about Ozil from last night. Deservedly so. But lets be clear, without Giroud’s performance last night, Ramsey, Rosicky and Ozil wouldn’t have had the springboard to pivot around and bounce passes off. The HFB was immense!

Thoroughly agree re: Gibbs, he was playing like a winger for large swathes of the match. Brilliant, consistent, and if it wasn’t for the fact that Baines and Cole are in front of him, he’d be starting for England. Fingers crossed he stays fit, as with all the other players. COYG

Ozil-carzola combo will be even better than cesc-nasri. This team is probably better than 07-08 team. Giroud has to score more than 20 this season. Would be interesting to see how well poldi does as a striker with ozil around.
Yeah, I’m eager to see if Podolski will provide a good option up front this season. Feel that with our stifled nature last season, we couldn’t really play to his strengths. Plus we have Santi LW now, and Chamberlain can play wide too.
I tingle inside when I think of Ozil and Santi linking up. That combo will be our new Henry/Pires.. Bergkamp/Ljungberg..

The depth of quality of mid field is immense.. struggling to name a no.1 starting line up. Very impressed with how we’re travelling at the moment – finally think we can do it, for the first time in years. So satisfying! Big up the Ozil, he really has lifted everyone. Rode home today in my Arsenal shirt and got a few heckles, blew kisses to the haters

Giroud is not only handsome, but also extremely cool in the way he talks, go and watch the interview. He comes across as cocky, which then totally contrasts with his unselfish attitude on the pitch – remarkable. Must be something French.
