Szczesny szigns new deal

Arsenal have announced that Wojciech Szczesny has signed a new long-term deal with the club.

The Polish stopper has been rewarded for a string of excellent performances this season, and the back end of last, as he responded to being dropped by Arsene Wenger.

Szczesny said, “I am very pleased to have signed a new contract. Arsenal is like my family and I’m so happy to be committing my long-term future here. I’ve been at this Club for over seven years now and I’d just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support towards me during my time here.

“Many people have given me amazing support since I arrived as a boy, people like Tony Roberts, who helped my development as a player from a young age.

“I’m so proud to be an Arsenal player and am looking forward to helping our Club towards success in the years to come.”

While Arsene Wenger was glad to have tied down the future of one of Europe’s top goalkeeper prospects, saying, “I have always believed he is an extremely talented player, with excellent reflexes and good mental strength. He continues to grow and improve all the time too, so he has the potential to be even better.

“He can be an important part of Arsenal Football Club for many years to come.”

Sometimes people forget how young he is, and at just 23 he’s got lots of room for improvement too. It’s good news in an otherwise tedious Interlull.

But but Julio Caesar….

Me hole

TightArse

Fantastic news, top guy (it seems) and a great player

Bishop

Like the part where he says “Our Club”, means a lot.

Geezer

Especially after a scumbag said “You guys”.

Perfectly Normal Gooner

What a guy!

Cheesus

What does long-term mean in this case? Anyway well done Szcz and Arsenal! Sagna next please

TightArse

I would guess 4 or 5 years?

Renan Romeo

It’s a 5 year deal

Xanthias

After having spent 5 years in the Almunia purgatory, this is really a welcome news.

Denzil

Very good news. Need Sagna for a 2 year deal now.

gunnerdownunder

Just don’t go all Theo on us after signing a new one

neutral

by “going all Theo” you mean ending up top scorer with loads of assists and numbers which compared favorably to Gareth 86M Bale, even though he was dropped for the first third of the season. Maybe you forget all those games he scored the only goal as Arsenal scraped by 1-0 winners, thus securing CL football?

bunch of ungrateful, fickle dickheads (I mean all you who thumbed this dumbass comment up)

Harsh

he was simply referring to the fact that after signing a new contract, theo had a dip in form for some games.

gunnerdownunder

Yeah I was just talking about his dip in form, sorry for insulting you

Bonjour

We won the league at shite hart lane!
We won the league at shite hart lane!
We won the league at the *piano mistake* shithole!
We won the league at shite hart lane!

Yuuchan

Szczesny new contract is done. Next is Sagna and Rosicky’s turn..

cannon & ball

The Woj done good!

pauly bear

Im not 100% sold on our shezy. He is prone to blunders but get away with it cause he slags off spurs. But I guess he is still very young

L

There isn’t a keeper in this league or any other league that never makes mistakes. Szczesny is still only 23 and has massive potential. And I can honestly only recall one real blunder by Woj this season and that was his attempted clearance against Liverpool which hit Sturridge but thankfully came straight back at him.

Loop A Hole

And the ones against Aston Villa? Agree with everything else though.

Richard Marshall

He had a couple of howlers against Villa (running out of the box, trying to header etc) but I think we have an awesome keeper on our hands and reckon we could get 10 – 15 good years out of him. Hopefully he’ll lift a lot of silverware in an Arsenal shirt!

GunnerJH

Then its time for signing Sagna and Arsene.

Geezer

And Rosicky. We all love Rosicky.

dublin_gooner

Glad to hear we’ll have the Pole between the poles for many years to come!

percyofgod

Arsene what are you still waiting for? Heard you and Sagna were waiting for Szczesny. Can you guys sign the fucking thing now?

Javis

Very happy he’s signed and improved, for a while I thought we needed a new No.1 as his form dipped and didn’t really have competition.

He is incredibly young in Goalkeeping terms, he will only get better..well done SZCZ!

Hutch

Chesney Hawks is a cracking keeper compared to the Grinch at scum united.

A N Other

I think with that he has nailed that no 1 jersey for many years to come..

Swedish Gunner

Great news, he’s like twelve in goalkeeper-years and already top class.

LANS

fantastic news, it’s not a sexy ozil deal but these deals are just as important
this guy is like an extension of the british core
he’s been with us for seven years
and at his age to be this good as a keeper is very encouraging

Roland C Rozario

Besides this signing of Sczy…. Arsenal are still lacking in the chase of striking options up front!
Considerations should, at least in the interim, be given opportunities to the likes of Joel Campbell, Chuba …..??? in the reserves/on loan!!!???###

Adam, Watford

Good news !

It will give me and others, no doubt, more time to learn how to actually spell his name properly without having to guess half way through !!!!

😀

Seriously though, this is good news, I have always thought he was less of a liability than some would have you believe. He kept us in the chase last season at the end on more than one occasion !

ThomasRT

So now that’s Theo, Aaron, Jack, Kieran, Ox, Carl, Woj, Gnabry tied down on long term deals with Per, Tomas and Bac on the negotiation table with having just recently signed Santi, Mesut, Olivier, Poldi and Flamini. Kos and Mikel’s contracts aren’t up for a while and we’ve got the likes of Zelalem, Olsson, Eisfeld, Akpom and Bellerin to work ther way through the ranks. All this while getting rid of the vast majority of our deadwood save for Park and Bendtner who are both out of contract at the end of the season. I see what you’re doing here,… Read more »

with the left and the right

can we all consider the possibility that it is Sagna who is holding off on a signing a new deal and maybe not Arsenal? He’s 30 now and this contract maybe the last contract of his career, he has to absolutely sure. I recall him sometime ago mentioning that he would like to finish his career back home in France. Its not a guarantee that just because we want him to stay he wants it too.

Aamir

Excellent work by Arsene on getting Wilshere, Ox, Rambo, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Walcott, Gnabry, and now Szczesny tied down to long term deals. Future of the club looks bright. The last “youth project” ultimately failed but at least it kept us in the top 4 when our finances were restricted. I honestly believe that what Wenger has accomplished in these past few seasons is a bigger achievement than the success Chelsea and City have bought Now for Arsenal to kick on and get success our own way. With our own style, our own homegrown players, and our own money. (All those… Read more »

Fatgooner

Chez deserves his new contract. So far he has had an excellent season. But I would still like to see another top-quality keeper at the club to keep the Pole on his toes.

The real news that I would like to hear is the signing of a top-draw striker this January. That could make the difference between winning the league or just finishing fourth.

Mills (the other one)

Thats an almost positive comment from you … thumbs up!!!

neutral

What does top-draw mean? I think you mean top-drawer.

look it up.

The only “top-draw” I could find was the urban dictionary with
1. feeling absolutely perfect
and…
2. to take a poop into the top part of someone’s toilet…simply lift up the top and do your business. is also fun to clean up.

While this is the definition of “top-drawer”

Of the best quality

Aamir

In response to FatGooner, Viviano IS a top class keeper and he’s keeping Szczesny on his toes. I really hope Szczesny retires at Arsenal after breaking David Seaman’s appearance record.

Also, I think Arsenal will definitely finish at least 3rd this season. That was my preseason hope for us. But if we get some luck with injuries then we could definitely win the title this season.

Geezer

At the moment, Viviano is third choice, behind Fabianski.

Rectum Spectrum

great news. him, jack, aaron, theo, gibbs, chamberlain are a very bright young future for this club. considering we have a very bright today, things are really starting to align again for us. all the hard work, never more so than during the last several years, is just starting to show.

Eiregun

And the FA cup 🙂

Dial square

We don’t need ‘luck’ with injuries, but we do need a big enough squad to cope with them….

Richeeee

Just saw a story about United’s Hernandez reconsidering his future at the club. I’d love to have him at Arsenal.
