Jenkinson: Every game is an opportunity

Carl Jenkinson says Arsenal are relaxed about their current standing at the top of the table with the squad solely focused on tackling opponents on a game-by-game basis.

Very much towing the party line the right-back, who has featured in the last two games in Bacary Sagna’s absence, also made clear that the squad have developed a no fear policy ahead of crunch showdowns with Napoli, Manchester City and Chelsea.

“I think the boys don’t really talk about where we are in the league too much if I’m completely honest with you,” Jenkinson told Arsenal Player.

“We are just trying to take one game at a time and if we do that well then our league position will take care of itself.

“We’ve got big games coming up but we’re definitely not looking at it in an apprehensive way. We look at every game as an opportunity to improve our position in the league.

“You do see the other results and of course we were going into the Everton game knowing we could stretch our advantage. It’s difficult because we could have gone even further clear but we’re further ahead than we were so it’s not been a bad weekend by any stretch of the imagination.”

Jenkinson’s looked very solid in his two outings in the last seven days. His assist for Bendtner against Hull was cracking and he even contributed a few deft touches in the final third against Everton. Napoli represents another big personal test, especially with the Italians likely to go all out early doors, although his pace on the break and willingness to bound down the wing means he could prove a very useful outlet.

Glad he’s looking solid…

I hope Benitez doesn’t use old Mourinho’s red pen (that cost us the Carling Cup) and highlight a big circle around him which sees us lose 3 – 0.

Spot the weakness. Mourinho did.

Bould's Eyeliner

Instead of suckin on Mou’s boot ya chelski tell us what the weakness in Jenko is.

Arsepedant

Your name sure doesn’t refer to your speed of thought, does it?

Quite simple,

Out of his depth.

Carl

“it’s not been a bad weekend by any stretch of the imagination.”
Haha that’s one English way to say it. Love the British core!

Aussie joe

The more the lad plays, the better he looks. I’m hoping that league cup performance was a one off rusty performance. With Bac possibly out for a little longer, hope he steps up and works his socks off. He’ll run through a wall for the Arsenal!!

ArsenalHobbit

Agreed. Had my doubts following the Chelsea game but he did well against a very good Everton side.

It’s a great example of how the confidence running through the squad will work wonders for young players who are still developing.

Life is good at the top. Let’s stay there. COYG!!!

Aaronfident Ramsey

People tend to forget that his form at the beginning of last season was so good thr people called for Sagna to be dropped. That was partially due to Sagna’s bad form, but some of Jenkinson’s performances were exceptional, particularly against City away when he was MOTM

shereWil power

Sensible chap. He always gives everything, this kid. Doesn’t mean Sagna shouldn’t be offered a new contract though!

Heroldgoon

He’s been talking of wanting to be a regular for this Arsenal well i’d say these 3 crucial games along with everton one are the benchmark for that. Hope he deflects the concern people have regarding our cover RB and delivers. Come on.

RamboFlamboArtamboMidfieldCombo

Still not entirely convinced by him but I’m sure with more game time he’ll develop into a good full back. Need to keep in mind how young he is and how he was playing non-league football until very recently. Come on Jenko!

jack jack jack

I think he’s got all the right ingredients (physically, technically) but he lacks the positional and tactical intelligence of someone like Sagna. Not knowing when to bomb forward and when to stay back was something I noticed against Everton – Özil was giving him a mouthful on a number of occasions for not making the run forward to support the attack when needed. He was probably shitting himself about Everton’s pace on the break to be fair. Anyway, all these things come with experience and game time, so there’s no reason why he can’t make it at Arse.

the only sam is nelson

All jenks needs is a left peg and he’ll be about perfect

although only having one foot didn’t do nutty any harm i guess

Finsbury Park Gooner

Theo to start please. Lets give those Napolitonians something to think about if they start to push too far forward, and I’m sure he’ll be keen to start reasserting himself on our first 11.

Manchester Gooner

I’d start Theo and Bendtner.

WS
Carl, Mert, Kos, Monreal
Rosicky, Flamini
Theo, Ozil, Cazorla
Bendtner

Subs: Fabianski, Gibbs, Ramsey, Giroud, Vermaelen, Gnabry/Wilshere

Dark Arts.

With Theo still returning, Cazorla’s lack of form, Ozil’s playing style, and Bendtners habit of being Bendtner, I’d worry that forward line combination might fail to take a grip on the game. I’d be more comfortable with Ramsey and Wilshere in the side somewhere. I’d definitely start Giroud.

The reader should however be advised that were I actually in charge, we’d be struggling in the Conference, despite Bergkamps best efforts up front. Corporate hospitality would involve hospitals.

DatArse

what about poldi?

overmars

Love his attitude. Just needs to improve a few things.

Sarson Vinegar's frightening sarnie

At his age and experience of course his form will fluctuate. Has shown enough already to convince he has the heart and skill to take over the position when Sagna finally retires.

And he’s a proper Gooner, like watching one of us play.

Ivan Drago

He’s had a few bad games and some good ones, but he’s still young and learning his craft. The most important thing for his development is getting Bac to sign a new contract so he can keep learning from the best

maaaah

Dont get all the hate jenko is getting he was out performing sagna last season (who came back from an injury) and kept robben quite at the alianze hes a very good rb and he should give wenger a bit of a headace when thinking bout that spot when sagna returns

maaaah

And also am i the only one wants to see gnabry be given more chances , reckon he could be like the ox when he first broke into the first team , so direct better than a fake number 7 ?

Dick Swiveller

Yeah, was a little suprised he hasn’t been on the pitch more, I understand WHY we want to keep all our midfielders on the pitch but a little more width could have helped us out at times imo…still 5 points clear though so what do I know?

Wenger's coat

Need either Gnabry or Walcott at Napoli, I recon.

haters gunner hate

surely england should consider using jenks, gibbs, wilshere, walcott, and the ox, in a X type shape. seeing as international teams have issues blending, you’d have a good shape to base the team around

The Other Ben

Perfect line up for me Manchester Gooner!

And that’s an awesome point about wanting to keep Jenks in the team over Sagna last season. Remember it well.

It’s like anything I guess… you get confident by using your skills productively.

The more rotation the better – generate a feeling of unity.

Arsene knows.

As the Finnish ski jump legend Matti Nykanen put it: every chance is an opportunity.
