Koscielny misses Chelsea, Podolski back

Laurent Koscielny will miss Monday’s clash with Chelsea having required ten stitches in his knee following last weekend’s accidental clash with Manchester City’s Alvaro Negredo.

The Frenchman sustained a nasty gash when the Spanish striker’s studs caught him on the knee as he scored City’s second goal and was seen beating the turf in pain before being stretchered off.

It was suggested the 28-year-old could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines although Arsene Wenger suggested this morning he could be back  in time to face West Ham United on Boxing Day.

Thomas Vermaelen will ‘deputise’ alongside Per Mertesacker as Jose Mourinho’s men visit the Emirates for the second time this season. The Belgian played against the Blues in October’s 2-0 loss in the Capital One Cup.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Lukas Podolski will be back in the squad for the game against Chelsea, saying, “”It will take a little while for him to come back but he can score goals for us.”

Vermaelen is more than capable. Change for him to get some game time. Poldi is just great news!

Loving your work Sir.

Harish P

I like how Wenger casually talks of unleashing Podolski in his return and smashing some goals for us.

Curious to see how Vermaelen may play different after all that extra training.

Mooo

Vermaelen will do the job. It’s not like they have a world-class striker or anything.

Lasagna

Oh how I would love to hear Mourinho and his poor excuses after the game on monday when he would cry out with all of his nonsense. It would be as sweet as 3 points.

Daft Aider

3 points and Mourinho crying like baby and blaming it on Podolski not getting sent off for his first hat trick celebrations would be all the xmas presents I would need………….

I’ve had a nasty gash in my time. .. It does take a while to recover from it

Daft Aider

I nearly married one, that also took awhile to recover from

Beagleboy

I’m sure watching Arsenal soothed any lingering heart ache :•)

Not only can Podi “score some goals for us”, I’m sure he also bring alot of joy in the dressing room.
You never know, he could just bring Carzola’s smile back and also his form as well.

Season defining game on Monday. The boss seemed confident in the press conference though

El blondo

I think the term “season defining” might be being a tad dramatic

Arseblood

This match is the most obvious draw in the history of match predictions! Put your life savings on a draw at around 2/1.

HBK

The captain in to debutise pardon the pun.

Illinois Gooner

According to Wenger, Jolly old poldi doesn’t need to be back to score goals.

james-enfield

I think the humourous/lighthearted use of the term “deputise” makes sense. It used to be, we had guys like Silvestre and Squillaci waiting on the bench if a guy like Kos went down, but to have Vermaelen, the club captain and a capable defender on his day, as a backup makes Kos’ absence a little less less horrifying…to me at least. I know the Verminator’s been down recently, but this might just give him the platform he needs to relaunch his bid for first-team football.

_

I just hope he won’t try too hard and instead sticks to doing the basics right, putting an ‘invisible’ performance, that should be enough from defenders to win the game. The real pressure will be on midfielders though.

santori

I would put Podolski straight in.

Podolski……………..Giroud……………Walcott
…………………………Ozil……………………….
…………..Ramsey………….Flamini…………….
Gibbs……….TV……………Per………….Sagna
………………………Szsc………………………..

Santi and Rosicky can come in to rotate at LW and next to Flamini respectively. If Giroud is knackered and the game stretches out, Poldy can be pushed up front with Santi on for him.

santori

I don’t think Vermaelen did too much wrong in the heavy defeat against City.

Hope he can put on a top performance against Chelsea with Per. At the back, Chelsea can be there for the taking but we will have to not put a foot wrong in the middle. Midfield is where it is won and our midfield was abject against City. If midfield breaks down, the pressure exerted on our backs will inevitably invite danger.

palace gunner

We need to win this game gunners, i mean a draw will be a game of goal difference, lets bounce back from these defeats we have endured & do some good marking & timed runs coyg.

Me2u..innit

So that will be 20 mins for the pod then when AW makes the usual “surprise” substitutions

ThePascalCyganInsideGunnersaurus

I hope that Poldi smashes one right in Terry’s face and then the ball deviates racistly over him and Cech for 4 – 0
