Ramsey set for spell on the sidelines

Aaron Ramsey could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines as Arsene Wenger admitted he fears the muscle strain he picked up against West Ham was serious.

The club’s top scorer this season pulled up midway through the second half and immediately gestured that he needed to come off.

Pressed as to the extent of the damage in his post-game press conference, Wenger said, “It looks serious. It looks like a thigh strain. I don’t know how serious the thigh strain is but the Christmas period certainly is over for him.

“I don’t know how long he’ll be out. We will see tomorrow morning.”

Despite some relatively below par performances in recent weeks, losing Ramsey would be a blow at a time when we play every three days.

Fingers crossed it’s not as serious as the player seemed to fear during the game. His absence would be offset by the return of Jack Wilshere who served the final game of his suspension today and will be in contention for a return against Newcastle on Sunday.

Happy Birthday Rambo!

leroy

…and mark hughes was sent off! #aha-hahahahaha

goonies

Really gutted to have lost the one and only cover we have from positions GK to CF. Gutted!!

GU1TAR-D3MON

Even though he has been below par these last couple of games provided 2 amazing passes on each of the last 2 games which really should have been converted. Shows his class and how much of a big miss he will be because even when he doesn’t play particularly well he has moments if brilliance…

Crossing fingers hoping it isn’t as serious as it seems but the injury gods rarely smile for Arsenal

leroy

agreed. and ramsey’s level of par these days is so much higher than everyone else’s, and rightly so. even a below par performance from him is still among the best in the league. i hope he’s not out too long.

even with our leading scorer out, wenger still has a headache! does he bring in rosicky for some creativity? bring back jack for some strength? start podolski on the wing and move santi inside?

what a great headache to have.

why not

Jack for some strength? i like the player but you are way off there.

some dumb american

Sucks for Rambo, hope it gets well soon. But, we can deal with it. Podolski and Walcott are back. There’s Santi and Wilshere too. We’re well-stocked in midfield.

German Gunner

and we scored 3 goals when he went off and conceded none, Just saying….

why not

I think he means there is nothing to worry about. rather than placing blame…

Krk

It is crazy how you protect holly Ramsey, and no words at all about Rosicky (10x better player overoll) and why he was out of the squad yesterday.
It is really funny sometimes…

Arsenalizer

This was Wenger’s plan, to play them all until the pick up injuries. It was coming and i know Wenger saw it. I just hope he uses wisdom with Ozil.

Ö

Nothing gets past you does it?

iwearnosocks

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter

Arsene Wenger

sshhhhh..

OneBeatOff

Give that man an ass mint …

Previgo

Happy birthday Rambo. He choosed the right time to get injured, if this turns out to be a long layoff then at least we have the january window to do some back up, but i realy hope its nothing serious because even with his below par performances of late I still wouldn’t change him for any mf in europe

mikie

well this sucks, I reckon we can cope for about a month, wilshere has had his break now but he will be right back in.

Louis

I hope it isn’t too much of a big injury, but maybe some down time and rest will see an increase in his perfromance.
That being said we’re well equipped to deal with this. Is it me or does santi need to try more for goals as much as he keeps trying for assists etc? And is it time we play Walcott as ST or at least behind/infront of giroud?

mukinda

Well all we gt to do is have faith in others too we believe we can perform tha best,as u saw tha presence of podolski changed tha performance

Dick Law

gutted but can’t question lad’s effort. jack, Theo, Luka, TGSTEL, Vermi..it’s your turn now..

goonies

So thats how it works for Arsenal?
in order to have one back one particular other must give his soul to the injury god and so on and so forth….fuck this.

palace gunner

Happy birthday rambo, & well done gunners team top again look at city, so the team thrive today good news & theo, podolski i feel giroud needs rest but what gd turns by the strikers

Andy

Shit…

Goonerestgooner

I doubt it’s anything too serious, he probably just wanted to come off to blow out the candles on his birthday cake.

muchadoaboutnot

It’s a surprise that Rosciky is the only player rested from the team that played Monday. A few forward players looked jaded today. Wenger can do no wrong but do himself a favor by starting Giroud and Ozil from the bench and keep the scoring momentum with Podolski and Walcott when the team engages Newcastle on Saturday.

Mate Kiddleton

An opportunity for Wilshere to step up in Rambo’s place

nycgunner

I don’t want to say blessing in disguise because getting injured is never a blessing but Ramsey needed a rest for sure. He has been playing almost every minute of every game and apparently has been playing with a knock in the last few games. I think he has also taken on somewhat of a goal scoring burden on himself which has affected some other areas of his game. The simple missed passes that we saw from him in the last couple of games and usually comes from loss of focus when a player is too tired. I hope he… Read more »

As long as it’s not too serious, the injury may be a blessing in disguise for Rambo, with all the football he’s played from the beginning of the season he deserves a rest. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that both his and Giroud’s performances have dropped lately, the sheer number of games that they have played means it was only a matter of time before fatigue set in. At least we have cover for Rambo on midfield , which means we don’t have to rush him back. As for Giroud, I still think we need a striker to share… Read more »

Fatgooner

Spot on. Ramsey’s injury is probably because he has been overplayed. A rest will probably do him good. We’ve got plenty of midfield cover anyway, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Just been watching the City v Liverpool game: just like us they were fucked by some terrible officiating. Sterling getting flagged offside when at least two yards on was probably the worst decision. Liverpool were very unlucky not to get something out of that match.

Dave

Gutted for him and we really need him 🙁

Goon

The gesture Ramsey made indicating that his thigh muscle had been ripped in to two pieces made me sick

Tiny

Pires 2001/2002
Ramsay 2013/2014

History repeating itself….

Krk

Yeah you can really compare those two.. hahhahahaha

Maniac

As much of a shame as it would be to lose Ramsey, and I hope we don’t, I think midfield is one of the areas where we actually cope well every match. Cazorla was fantastic today, and Ozil also had a good game. Arteta was fantastic both defensively and offensively and Flamini was as consistent as usual. Let’s also not forget Wilshere who will be back from his ban soon and Rosicky whose injury shouldn’t be too serious. All in all Arsenal will always be able to cope with the loss of even a key player because we never rely… Read more »

Great to see us back to our winning ways! You could tell we really needed that first goal and then as soon as we settled, coincidentally when Poldi came on and Santi moved central which gave a similar feel to the side as that of last season, they had pretty much nothing… Bit gutted about Rambo but hopefully this will be just what Jack needs for him to rediscover his form. Newcastle are no joke this season and I’ve a feeling that this next game is going to be a cracker! Cant wait! COYG!

LethGooner

Hope it’s not too serious. He has the heart to come back soon. Opportunity for replacements to prove themselves.

Arsenal Fan

What Ramsey gives us is unique. He can attack as well as defend properly. The closest option we have is jack and he ain’t no hack

Nordin

His performance last few games have been below what he produced before that. So a good rest is in order for recuperation as well as reflection. Hopefully once he is back, he dan produce similar or even better performance than before.

Andre

Perhaps a blessing in disguise if injury is not too serious. A rested Ramsey will be well needed for Feb and March. Wilshere & Co should meanwhile be able to cope.

Harry Shambles

I still don’t think his performances have been all that bad of late. When looking for that difficult final ball, it’s never going to come off every time. Because he’s had a bloody ridiculous start to the season obviously expectations have gone up, but you need to be realistic and take things in context. He got an assist at the shitihat, and should have had one yesterday, but he’s not played well at all has he? As I said I’m gutted he’s injured but I’m hoping that this is the catalyst for Jack to rediscover that Brazil/Barca form and hopefully… Read more »

Jason

Not good news. However, I believe Ramsey needed the rest. We need him back healthy and hopefully that is sooner than later. I want to see us with Ramsey, Ozil, Podolski, Walcott, and Giroud going forward in attack. How wonderful it will be.

D-holio

Have to agree with most that this injury in a strange way may be a blessing in disguise. The kid needs a rest as he has logged alot of minutes so far this term and his form over the last few games (apart from a couple of killer through balls which were not converted) has been poor by the high standards he was delivering early in this campaign. He’s still a young lad learning his craft and we have very capable and experienced back up in midfield, so a spell out on the sidelines studying the game and resting his… Read more »
