Rosicky backs two-goal Giroud

Tomas Rosicky has hailed Olivier Giroud after the striker’s performance against Sunderland today.

It came on the back of a difficult week off the pitch for the Frenchman, but after two goals and an assist for Rosicky’s sensational third, the former Montpellier man has answered some of his critics.

“Oli showed he’s very important to us,” said Rosicky. “He’s got a good touch, works hard and can score goals. Today will be good for his confidence, and he’s a player we need.”

Rosciky himself scored the goal of the game, after wonderful one-touch football and he called it a ‘typical Arsenal goal’.

“It was a great goal,” he said, “that’s what the fans want to see, a typical arsenal goal. Pass and move football which we all enjoy, I’m glad I scored.

“But it was important to take 3 points, after Bayern we were disappointed and had to get straight back. We did that today, it was good step forward.”

The Czech was asked about the team’s daunting fixture list in March, but wasn’t too worried, saying, “It doesn’t matter what order the games come, we try and win each one.

“I think this season will be decided on the last day! It’s going to be interesting.”

Giroud is on my back too!

CescuallyFrustrated

Sign him up! Surely has to retire here, can’t see him anywhere else.

Wenger's Fat Wallet

Mostly just liked your comment for that username

Gunner From Another Mother

Haha oh man that really is a good name. If it wasn’t for your comment I would have missed it entirely

lonsdale

If anything, we should sign him up as he’s the one player who will celebrate by showing us his metal salute.

Rock on Tommy. That is all.

Gary Ozil

It’s incredible how quickly people started to forget what a good player he is.

argonaut

Easily the most underrated player at the club. People keep saying that Ozil is world class, but people forget that Tommy is also world class and carried his national team for years. I would pick him in preference to Ozil every time as he simply gives the side more, in terms off all-round performance.

ayo

COYG.. tomas ur statue is Next.

Gary Ozil

Call me crazy but I’d be delighted to see Tomas Rosicky get a statue. He’s given 110% to the club through eight hard years, whilst players like Robin van Persie, Adebayor and William Gallas chased the money/quick trophies.

Too Drunk To Be Offside

I doubt he will get one, and to be honest, I would say Rosicky is a long way down the pecking order to get a statue.

Keown, Dixon, Winterburn, Pires, Ljungberg would all be ahead if u ask me. Having said that I do share your sentiment that Rosicky has been a great servant.

jack jack jack

I think we’re going a bit overboard with all the statues. The Emirates is starting to look like Pyongyang. Dennis had to get his one, but let’s leave it for a bit eh lads?

TightArse

Fantastic North Korea reference

99

Or that statue army in China…

T-dog

Even his head would be enough. The way his hair falls back like a superman cape…

heroldgoon

Its amazing how clinical Giroud was with his two goals especially his second. Maybe the lad was just fatigued and that rest did him good. Time to get behind Ozil aswell.

readberk

Trust Giroud to score when he has little to lose, and against lowly opposition.

When the chips are down on the other hand… shots are skied, tongues get out along with plenty of stupid smiles. In that order.

Did I mention that I have zero confidence in his ability to produce consistently? 😉

Gary Ozil

To practically accuse a player of scoring two goals is the epitome of stubbornness.

Az Ahmed

Scoring against lesser teams is good, but to be considered a truly great striker, he needs to perform in the big games. Personally, I do not think he has the ability.

OG Mike

If I’m not mistaken Suarez(who we’d probably all agree is a great striker) has failed to score against top four opposition, and something like only 17% of his goals have come against the top half. I’m more inclined to think that it is just harder to score against top teams in general. And when the goals do come, they may be more likely to come via link up play, set pieces, etc. So while Giroud can do better, I don’t think scoring against “big” teams necessarily confirms one’s class.

Saffa Gooner

Hmmm, I wonder whether a goal against Bayern, in Munich, counts as performing in a big game? Or maybe Spurs or Napoli?

Az Ahmed

Take the Man Utd game as an example. He had many chances and wasted them. He is not clinical enough in front of goal and he is not a dribbler, so his only chances come from crosses. If the main striker cannot convert chances then there is a big problem, especially if the midfielders are not contributing with goals. I think he is international class but not world class. He is more of a utility player.

AP

He’s good when he gets a ground pass that he can run onto. Lets see him score some other variety, then maybe we can conclude about the rest.

Previgo

So the so called double favourites went on to win when they could so nearly have drawn! Hmm this just shows we can’t afford to rely on results elsewhere but results from here! COYBBG

AllGunsABlazin

The only Big Black Gunner we have is Sanogo…

NOBODY mention Diaby

Pires' Left Foot

The third goal was brilliant. Gave me goosebumps. Pity I had to watch it on a pathetic stream!

Gunnermon

brilliant as he’s always. Can’t expect any other player to be as influental as him

Rocky Rocastle

Sunderlands defense was worse than ours when we got thrashed by Liverpool though. No one marked Giroud for both of his goals, so he was free to do what he wanted, and no one marked Koscielny for his goal. But the Rosicky goal was a beauty, and a Nice flick on by Giroud. One of our best goals this season imo.

Nice win today, but Damn annoying that Ch£l$ea got that goal 3 min into overtime. Coyg!

Rocky Rocastle

Hehe, lot of people in here dont Even watch the games apparently, because im allways downrated if i call it like it was. First goal. Giroud’s marker leaves Giroud to attack wilshere whom allready got 2 players on him, leaving Giroud all alone at 11 meters with all the time in the world when he gets the ball, and a simple finish. Second goal, Giroud starts running from 30 meters, but no one is marking or even watching him at all and sunderlands defense ends up passing the ball in to Girouds path Even though he should have been picked… Read more »

Too Drunk To Be Offside

What is the point of replying to yourself simply for downvotes. Did u think the first comment was not ranty enough, that you really had to spell it out for everyone.

Unnecessarilystupid

So for the second goal you’re suggesting the Sunderland should have someone marking Grioud they were in possession? Right you are chap!

Previgo

I might be wrong but I’m convinced we played better without ozil, just saying how deep a squad we have!

Dudelmann

Of course it does help that we were playing a, frankly, terrible team…

Previgo

Surely Rosicky is better than every mf in manure utd!

Rami Shaaban

Somebody needed a confidence boost after so many down votes.

Shishir

Tomas Rosicky = Arsenal = Pure Class.

Mayor of the Woolwich

Super Tom = Super Hero.

Eddy The Gunner

Giroud was surely practicing the target when he was banging the target beam of that model.

santori

Sadly, it also meant no clean sheets for us today.:D

Saketh

haha well played

papapapap

We would be beyond stupid if we didn’t pay rosicky and particularly sagna a bit more money to sign an extension. Unless sagna has already made his mind up to go to Monaco of course

santori

I know I will be committing heresy but as fantastic as Rosicky has been for us, personally I would let him go this summer. He isn’t getting younger or less injury prone. Instead the money for the extension could be used to effectively extend Sagna for the extra season he is looking for. Considering we have to find replacements for keeper backup, CBack and also probably add a striker still, we could do with a stable situation at RB with Bellerin and the more one dimensional Jenkinson still vying for succession. Rosicky has been brilliant for us but me thinks… Read more »

WengersNoseHair

I have to disagree with just about all of that. Why do we have to sacrifice one for the other? Why can’t we give both of them extensions? And Rosicky seems to have largely got over his injury problems. He’s 33 but still runs around like he’s 20. He already appeared 25 times this season for us, starting 16 times, so clearly Wenger still thinks he’s an important part of our squad. Plus he’s versatile, he can play in any midfield position, except the Arteta/Flamini holding role. Even if we get diminishing returns from Rosicky, he’ll be a very important… Read more »

santori

LOL watch the headlines. We romp to a massive victory but the accolades will be muted. meanwhile Chelsea and City will be ‘showing the stuff of champions’ grinding results on the business end. Giroud…”on and off the pitch, just can’t stop scoring” Maybe Ozil needs a rest too and he will come back strong. Great to see Podolski and Rosicky both hungry and starting. Bit more concerned for injuries hope Monreal and Koscielny are OK. The sort of win that hopefully stems from a bit of anger and confidence off the Bayern game and will propel title winning form to… Read more »

Alf

Tottenham wanted a statue of Paul Gasgoine out of their new dump, I mean stadium, but the statue kept falling off it’s plinth

Momo (@MuhamLAD)

I forgot how well Giroud could perform for the past couple of months, really glad he got a rest

Ryan tan

Its unfair to see rozza getting such few games for the past few years.i dont know why wenger doubt his ability by not giving him 1st team action week in n out.he is the complete midfielder if u ask me.he can dribble, defend and score.if wenger had more faith in him he could already be there with the arsenal greats.just like how podolski clearly is a gem.you shouldnt bench these players arsene.they are more than ready to play week in n out.

Rami Shaaban

He has been injured an awful lot of that time so hence the him not starting part.

AfricanGooner

Giroud was a real two timer tonight!

….*grabs coat

Wenger's Glasses

Some arsenal fans are such a downers. When we win there’s always the “yeah, but the opponent was sh*t..” etc. Ridiculous. “Ooh I have the rights for an opinion.” Yeah, we have the rights to don’t give a f*ck as well.

Anyways, 4 awesome goals! I love Kos’ celebration for his goal. Proper gunner.

Karlito

Looks like a proper rest has helped Giroud probably both physically and mentally. Hopefully the same will happen with Ozil and he’ll be back fighting for the big games we having coming up.

Fedora

Yes the opposition was shit..but did we get 3 points? Yes!

The whole point of being on top of your game is to punish the opposition for their mistakes. So to people who are on saying we still suck, are shit etc…you’re David Moyes

I don’t know if that means anything, but for me that’s the biggest pile of rubbish you can be..also Andy Gray..yes definitely him too..and Richard Keys god awful scrotum hair

MC

Have you seen the bird in question that was in Oli’s room?

I wouldn’t kick her out of bed for farting!

Kon fee dent gun

may he play the giggs role for us in the upcoming seasons .

Arsenal Fan

Give Sagna and Rosicky the raise they want (as long as it’s reasonable ). We want to build a culture that rewards hard work and loyalty.

Laurel

Rosicky, one of the few guys in the team that make the Arsenal advance FORWARD like an Army,
