Sagna eager to end ’embarrassing’ trophy drought

Bacary Sagna says he’s eager for Arsenal to end their ’embarrassing’ nine year wait for a trophy claiming the opportunity to secure his first silverware with the Gunners makes him hungrier than ever.

Speaking in a television interview, to which the Mirror had access, the French international outlined the mood in the camp ahead of a huge month of games which will likely dictate the club’s fate on three fronts.

“It would be my first trophy. I’ve been here for seven years and we haven’t won anything so it’s a bit embarrassing for the club, the fans and ourselves as well.

“As a player you want to be successful, show you have quality and when you don’t win you always wonder what’s happening. But it makes me even more hungry to do it.

“I know we have the quality to do it. Every day I think about it, every day I come training and make myself better and hope we can win something.

“It’s our ambition is to stay top of the league. We have a quality team to be successful at the end of the season but we must stay focused.

“But we have to learn from what happened in the past, everyone is ready to fight and show how much we want it.”

Free to leave Arsenal in the summer, the right-back also spoke of his pride at playing for the Gunners and why, up to now, he’s never had a reason to quit N5.

“I love Arsenal, I love playing for Arsenal, I love my team. Arsenal is the most followed team in France and I remember I used to watch them when I was in France so it was a pleasure to play for them, so why leave?

“It’s great here. It was like a dream when I joined the club because I used to follow Arsenal when I was in France and then I had the opportunity to join them and it’s a pleasure to play for the team.”

From what Arseblog News understands those last couple of paragraphs shouldn’t be taken out of context as a sign that the player is close to an agreement with the club over a new deal.

Having been at the club since 2007 Sagna obviously has an emotional bond with the Gunners but he’s a wanted man and with the clock ticking on his career it’s just possible he fancies testing himself elsewhere before he retires. It would be a shame if that were the case, but you’d have to doff your cap to him for the years he’s put in at the Emirates.

vito

surely the most consistent arsenal player in the period he has been here.

Duff

Surely worth offering him £120k+ considering his consistency and versatility, would be such a shame to see him go. Infuriating we didnt tie him down a year or so ago…

Quality player. And hope he stays. And scores in the fa cup final 😉

If we win something this year, I believe he’ll stay. If we don’t, then I think he’s off. Will always be an Arsenal legend.

Gunner

Apparently it’s his mrs that wants to leave London and is putting pressure on him to move away… Heard that rumour months ago and looks like it’s coming true. Such a shame, will be very sad to see him go.
