You may have noticed Santi Cazorla playing football quite well on Sunday against Manchester City.
It turned heads.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain treated the Spaniard to a piggyback at full-time. Aaron Ramsey described him as a ‘little magician’. In the Sky Sports studio Thierry Henry had to cross his legs for fear of Gary Neville staring at his crotch. On social media people put down their pitchforks for a nanosecond and doffed collective caps.
And in Barcelona, Xavi was summoned to the Camp Nou’s corridors of power for a meeting. We imagine it went something like this…
Evil Barça suit: “See Arsenal yesterday?”
Evil Barça suit: “You know what I’m thinking…”
Evil Barça suit: “Reckon you can get it done today?”
Evil Barça suit: “We’ll organise some ridiculous press thing for this afternoon…do it then”
Three hours later…
Xavi says he’d choose Santi Cazorla if he could buy any player for Barcelona.
Speaking at an event for Spanish dentist agency Dentix (yes…dentist!), the 34-year-old stated: “There is some great Spanish football talent around. Who would I sign for Barcelona? Silva and Cazorla.”
You’ve got to give it to him. He’s ridiculously consistent when it comes to this type of behaviour. Even when it goes Alex Song.
For what it’s worth, Santi is under contract at Arsenal until the summer of 2016.
