Gibbs ready to fight for his place

Kieran Gibbs says that he’s ready to fight to win his Arsenal place back having fallen behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order at left-back.

The Spanish international has been in excellent form lately and having lost his place due to injury, Gibbs knows he’s going to have to work hard to get back into Arsene Wenger’s team.

But he accepts that as part and parcel of life at a top club.

“At some stage you’re going to have to fight for your place,” he said. “It’s the same as last year, when I was playing a lot and other players weren’t.

“You have to respect that, know what it feels like. I have to take my chance when I get it and I’m excited for that challenge.

“It’s never easy, but you have to realise that playing for a club like this is a special thing. It doesn’t get a lot easier, but it’s something that many players have to deal with.”

Gibbs is likely to feature in the FA Cup on Sunday against Boro giving him a chance to put some welcome pressure on Monreal.

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that some away fans may find their tickets invalid tonight due to an administrative error which showed dozens of tickets bizarrely printed with the name ‘Hoss Gilenhooley’.

Those affected are advised to contact their ticket outlet.

Great attitude, love hearing this.

Hope they are all feeling the same, we can go far.

I remember Wenger mentioned something along these lines when a player wanted to leave. If you’re not ready to fight for your place after bad form and the player who replaced you is doing exceptionally well, then you need to be demoted to a smaller team. The thing we all can take from this is that there will always be a chance in the future but we should be prepared to grab it when it comes! This is probably the not the best ever starting eleven over the last 20 years but its starting to feel like one of the… Read more »

Hoss Gillenhoy is the hero arsenal needs, but not the hero it deserves

Starting lineup for Leicester game should be…
—————–Szczes—————
Chambers—Per—Gabriel—Gibbs
————-Rosicky–Flamini——-
Walcott———-Ozil———-Alexis
—————-Welbeck————–

Should give Kos, Giroud and Santi a rest, Szczes, Chambers, Gabriel, Gibbs, TR7 and Flamini some good playing time.
And this will also give us the joy of watching Walcott, Ozil and Alexis together <3

CB

Agree mostly, though stick the Coq in, he can’t be tired with the little action he has seen this season. Even if he is a bit, he is good at coming back.

Save Flamini for the FA Cup.

My name is my name

Way, way, way too many changes. This is not a cup game.

jo

yeah, why use all the players we have when we can continue with the same ones who looked listless three days ago? after all, we only have a squad in order to keep a bunch of people around to grumble about a lack of playing time, not to be used for rotation.

Coq-head

Why is it that you can only make so many changes in a cup game? Are cup games less important? Is Leicester City not a walk in the park?

tommymo

Likewise with CB, I agree mostly. Though i think we should give Gabriel another week or so before we try him out. Language and cohension is key at centre back and although i’m sure Gabriel is getting to grips with english, i can’t say for sure whether he’s forged a cohesive understanding with a fellow centre back. I think for Leicester we should try kos-chambers, and try a gabriel-per partnership for the FA cup, just to give Gabriel that little extra time to become settled.

You play too much FIFA my friend. You can’t simply change the whole team without disrupting the balance.

Unfortunately Gibbs’ continued string of injuries have given Monreal a chance this year and he’s really taken advantage. It’s a great luxury to have two quality left backs that can both do the job. Gibbs certainly has the talent and potential to be a top LB, but has got to kick the injury bug if he is going to come close to maximizing his potential.

I genuinely don’t know how to react to the Hoss Gilenhooley story. Part of me thinks there’s a reason it gets only one result when searched on google – but then part of me thinks it’s such a mindblowingly irrelevant snippet of information to make up that it has to be true.

I think my brain was irreversibly destroyed by this website when I realised Hingle McCringleberry wouldn’t be turning up for training.

Blogs is always messing with us. I keep looking at it and thinking it’s some kind of wicked anagram but I just can’t get that either. *sigh* Blogs Whyyyyyyyyyyy?

Ultimate Gooner

Kieran Gibbs is like poor man’s Ashley Cole. Less technically gifted, less decisive in the final third, less fighting spirit, and less defensively good. It sort of sums up how we currently compare to the 2001-2004 team.

Man Manny

Monreal’s spell at CB really helped his game. I noticed that his remarkable improvement at LB came after that time.
What does Gibbs do? Take any chance that comes your way: FA cup, Cameos like City (I think) and when Monreal needs a rest.
Personally, I have a soft spot for Gibbs and I think offensively, he is the better player. Sadly, Monreal is the more assured defensively. A good competition to have.

Mpls

Sadly for Gibbs (and maybe England), but It’s not sadly for Monreal! To be fair to Gibbs I have seen him put in some really solid defensive displays, so he’s definitely got it in him. But it’s the best man for the job on the day. Right now that’s Nacho. I like them both and think they’re both great left backs when on form and excellent professionals with great attitudes, and I am happy to see them both representing the Arsenal. To me, with Debuchy out Left Back is really the one of the back four I think least about,… Read more »

Hoss Gilenhooley

Blogs is trying to sucker those brainless online news outlets into reprinting a non-story. He’s picked a name that not even Google has heard of.

Hoss gillenhoy

Yes i strike again! Next stop Middlesbrough!

Hoss Gilenhooley

I am on the outside looking in. You’ll get back your tickets for sure. Upwards and onwards. Let’s eat into that goal difference tonight!

ooh to be

I noticed you started using the phrase ‘part and parcel’ ever since wilshere’s regular interviews about coming back from injury.

Not only is that testament to how much I read the blog but also Jack’s great hold of the English language.
