Youngster set for Ipswich loan deal

Reports suggest that Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set for a loan move to Championship side Ipswich Town.

The 17 year old became the club’s second youngest player ever to feature in the Champions League when he came on as a substitute against Galatasaray last season, as well as making appearances against Newcastle and Hull in the Premier League and FA Cup respectively.

Now it seems Arsene Wenger has decided a spell of regular football is the next step in his development.

The midfielder has become more involved with the first team over the last 12 months with Wenger saying, “Many times he’s been the whole week with me in training.”

He’s highly regarded at the club but it’s difficult to make any judgement on a player so young and one without a regular spell of first team football.

By all accounts a move is very close so good luck to him there when the new season kicks off.

A good sign that he is going to a top championship side at 17/18. Best of luck to him next year.

Anonymous Physicist

Very true. If he can get regular playing time in the championship at this age, he’ll be on a great track to make it to the first team. Let’s just hope he doesn’t get stuck on the bench too much.

Merlin's Panini

Good luck to him.

TommyGun

The new Diaby?

Me So Hornsey

And good luck to his Dick hating mum as well.

Stringer Bell

Since falling out with Dick I believe his mum has become good friends with coq.

Andy Mack

Good to see this is being sorted early so he can do the pre-season with them and really be part of their squad rather than a last minute ‘fill-in’ that isn’t familiar with the style of the players he’s playing with.

David Hillier

Really good move for a lad at his age, exciting prospect, hope he gets some good amount of playing time.

Also think a loan away from London (and his mum) will do the world of good as well.

lonsdale

Unfortunately Ipswich isn’t too far from London… wouldn’t be surprised if she drove up there most nights.

Cornelius P. Snuffington III

Still playing for a team that has been champions of England more recently than Spurs have.

Arsepedant

Aaaaand we have a winner! Congratulations, sir, comment of the week.

Coq Au Vin

Indeed!

Nigerian Kanu

A very good prospect. Hope he gets to play often. When is Sanogo leaving on loan? He also needs preseason with a new club. I think Sanogo should go to Mid table club where Relegation isn’t a their fear. As this would reduce the pressure on him!

J Bird

Sanogo isn’t good enough for a mid-table club.

Brent

Hopefully a championship spell does for him what it did for coq.

I’m sure this has been answered but who was the youngest to feature in a champions league match? Wilshire?

AllGunsABlazin

Either Wilshire or Fabregas

goonerbynature

4 years younger than Bamford and playing in the Championship. He’s definitely got a future if he’s playing at that level so young, hope he has a good season!

goonerbynature

Not to mention, a good Championship club who will be building on a playoff place from last year
