Obvs…

Rob

Yay..

Jagger

I actually think this is an easier group than last year’s and the year before’s.

Better facing Bayern now than in the knockout.

Algooooooner

If we make it past round of 16 watch us get bayern in the quarter finals ? you jinxed it man!!

David C

agreed. Might as well get a super team in your group and you don’t have to face them in the round of 16.

Realistically speaking, I think we will all settle/expect to finish 2nd, but would be a nice bonus to top the group right?

mach iii

We will definitely top the group!
We’re the best team in Europe!

pi

Why is the dress rehearsal always spot on…. it’s cool at least this way it’s unlikely we’ll face them in the knock-out round.

*sigh*

vnet

Don’t worry. There is always Barcelona. Just Kidding.

Mesut!

Why did man. City automatically get juventus and then barca get Bayer leverkusen?

ArtroB

Because there need to be 2 English teams in each half of the draw.

Edders

Groups A-D always play on the same day (E-H play on the other midweek date), so for TV they have decided that each half of the draw has to contain two English teams. (the same is true for the Spanish teams).

Us and the blue sh*t were in E-G, so City had to go into A-D. There were two groups left without a second pot team – Group D (Juve) and Group E(Barca) so City had to go into Juve’s group.

Ian

It had to be them or Barca really didn’t it.

Eduardo Stark

At least the guy in pot 3 and 4 – Olympiacos and Zagreb is playable. Better than Dortmund/Napoli/Marseille group-ish we got couple years ago..

Ian

Yeah it could have been a lot worse than Olympiacos and Zagreb and i’m fully expecting us to beat them. After an innitial fear of group of death i’m not that worried. I was just saying it seems that we always get Bayern or Barca.

Edders

It’s not much consolation, but Bayern was a better draw than Barca. It meant that we couldn’t be drawn against the two other German teams, who were by far the best of pot 4.

Sri

Amen. That was the proverbial Group of Death in literally every sense of the word. All 4 teams were good enough to qualify for the sweet 16 from literally any other group in the field.

A Yank

Don’t worry, a likely 2nd place finish in this group means UEFA can rig the knock-out draw so we draw Barca in the first round then.

Ian

Yeah i wouldn’t be surprised!

muchadoaboutnot

Why 2nd place? Are you admitting that Arsenal is inferior to challenge for the top position and the title?

moonie

At the moment. Yes. But that doesnt mean we should roll over either

He's got no hair but we don't care...

Manure lucky again with PSV. Pathetic.

Ian

Always the way

cygan'sbaldspot

makes you think.

Man Manny

On the other hand, I want all the English teams to do well. With the growing competition in the EPL, it might be the reason we play CL for years to come if you understand what I mean…(four slots and all that).

Mesut

I also want all the English teams in the CL to do well. Except for the teams that buy their success. Oh, and United. But the rest I’ll happily cheer for.

East Gooner

United comes under the first category anyway of buying success. Hell, look at their net spend over the past few years….

Smart-Arse

They may have got off lightly with Pot 1, but a trip to Moscow and Wolfsburg home and away is not easy at all! I honestly prefer to be in our group. I think they could come 3rd.

dcgooner

I know i will be getting a lot of thumbs down but realistically it’s second place we’re gonna be aiming for.

Perry S.

that’s just cold, hard facts so not sure why anyone would thumb you down. if we finish first, then we’re just exceeding expectations.

Fellonious

Don’t know about that. 1) on our night we can beat them, and 2) don’t concede at home, and we could just take them. We’ve got the players to do it.

neutral

Either you are a natural optimist or you just became an Arsenal fan last year.

chippy's chip

Have we, have we really??

Miranda

I agree we’ve got the quality to beat them. Worst teams than us have done it. Even we managed it a couple of times, though not over two legs. They don’t have significantly better players, just a manager who gives them more help. They prepare for games, watching videos of their opponents and discussing the tactics to use. They go in with a plan, and if that plan isn’t working – remember when Wenger confounded them with Sanogo – Guardiola is immediately there on the touchline changing things round and providing reassurance. Wenger is capable of tactics every now and… Read more »

Stillmatic

“Don’t concede at home”.

Haha, this kid is alright.

Ani

Well, Chambers can keep a clean sheet at home, just saying.

Gooner

As always, United and Chelsea get easy groups…

Perry S.

Chelsea’s group is a literal fucking joke.

Kevin

Not sure going to Israel mid week is a great draw. Easy teams, but bad places to travel

CountLeaf

i politely disagree. i’d much rather go to Greece or Croatia than to Ukraine and Israel. in fact, the same applies to manure, who will have a lovely travel to Russia and will get really tested by Wolfsburg, who everyone seems to underestimate and who could easily win their group. honestly, i’m pretty happy about the group. Bayern is a challenge, while the rest should be perfectly winnable and depends entirely on us. we already know how it feels to play in Greece, so it’s time we win there. not sure if i’d like to swap with any other English… Read more »

Ani

Sweet little dilemma for Man City. Now, do they buy Wolfsburg’s best player?

shotgunner

Good.

SB

Blogs were you also involved in fixing the groups – seems your prediction has come true.

DublinGooner

Enjoy CSKA Moscow United, very tough team to beat in Moscow and did the business against City last year. Special shout out to Chelsea who have to travel out to Kiev!

Tee Söng

Ha! I’m sure the Russian mobster owner will enjoy the Ukraine!

assistantref

Good. Playing a top team earlier in the competition may be just what we need. There’s no point in going out in the last 16 again like we do every year, I’d rather be pressed in the group stage and potentially go out there than do a repeat on Monaco last year, with the alternative being rising to the occasion and actually starting to believe a little bit.

chris

Lol we are gonna get Barcelona in the knockout stage if we get 2nd place in this stage. Monaco my arseeee..blog.

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

Exactly my thinking these would be a great test for us, yes over the year we played dortumd, napoli, marsille or team like that , but we never have a top 4-5 team in the world in the group stage we always get them after the group and get knock out and that became a mental weaknesses for us now for the first time we have top 4 in the world team and we can truly test our self and if we beat them and top the group we would be different team in the knockout stages knowing we already beat… Read more »

Hank Scorpio

You seem to be under the impression that this team learns from its mistakes

AntiSpud

Let’s face it. To win this competition you need to beat some big ones. If we get draw at home against them we can beat all of them away. We’ve done it over and over again. Come on this can be done

chippy's chip

A much better chance of winning CL than PL.

Gandalf the Gooner

Unless you’re Porto under Mourinho

shokim

Good draw. Better to meet Bayern Munich in group stages than knock out round.

chippy's chip

Yes a refreshing change to be knocked out by someone else.

David

AKA barcelona

just telling it like it is

So the earliest we can face another domestic team is in the quarters?

just telling it like it is

So if we when we come second- Barcelona, Real, Atletico & (Best case Valencia/Zenit/Lyon) await.

Bosscielny

So looks like its going to be Barcelona this time in the knockouts.

Yay aren’t we lucky

The Playmaker

We got Monaco last time. Didn’t make much of a difference.

A Gooner

I think that this is exciting and what it’s all about!

Red Army!

Adams Jnr

Totally agree actually. This is what the champions league is all about – big sides against each other, and great european nights at the grove. Fucking bring it on.

Arse Sutra

no fucks given!!!!!
when we thrash those germans ,probably then lewandoski and muller
will realise
” Shiiiiiiiit thats the red and white shirt we ought to be
wearing from now on “

Savage

Happy with that draw. If we can’t get past Olympiakos and Zagreb then we’re not worthy of the next phase. As for the last 16 draw, getting easy or hard teams doesn’t seem to make a difference – we simply have to beat what’s in front of us, which is what you have to do to win the thing anyway.

Peacwfulwarrior

Looks like we will be facing Realmardid or Barcelona again in the last 16.

Marshall Madison

First 4 UCL matches before weekend games v. Chelsea, Man Utd, Everton and Sp*rs. Looking forward to seeing different lineups in different games. Will be fun to see our depth on display.

Marcus

“FUN” 😀

chippy's chip

Well, if thats your idea of fun….im off!!

Riyan

Don’t forget that even Chelsea, Utd and Sp*rs will also be coming from mid-week European matches…

DAMOBOT

If we have learned anything in the last 10 campaigns is that it doesn’t matter what teams you get in the draw. They are capable of effing us rigth “Up the Arsse!!” . Play well on the day and get the points and move on, I say…

Comedian

Good draw. Wont face them that early in the knockout rounds.

Ferngunner

This is not fair on Bayern Munich and the rest. Hehe

rex

best draw in a while for Us….. for the other English clubs, it’s same ol same!

Man Manny

Good draw if you ask me but we must:
1. aim to get 6 points from Olymp and Zagreb away and complete the business at home.
2. Make life as miserable as possible for Bayern in the 2 games against them – they have a soft underbelly that we can exploit. Who knows? We can top this group.
3. Drop all the naivety that we usually exhibit in European games (Anderlect, Monaco etc).

Savage

Beating Bayern and topping the group would be a huge boost of confidence – let’s see it as an opportunity

Wellarsed

Think I know how this will go: second in the group, knocked out in the round of 16. I guess tho’ that should be considered best-case scenario given how the season has started.

inside tip

Agreed… But, with hopes like that it can only get better, so there’s a plus… Unless Olympiakos and those twats from Zagreb pull some unexpected brilliance…

Wellarsed

Or we take either of them for granted & get stuffed. It would be nice if we achieved the unpredicted for a change though!

Ani

A small little detail will be that last 16 we get knocked out on away goals.

Eduardo Stark

The worst moment was not us drawn against Bayern for me, but the footage of Beletti shot past Almunia. Sigh…

Biishopp

I was rooting for a tougher draw and even though this is not a walk in the park, I fear we might be complacent as usual. We have always managed to make things difficult for ourselves in relatively easy groups. Hope we are focused from beginning to end. COYG

ClockEndRider

Rooting for a tougher draw?
Quite bizarre…..

Ces1ne

So-called easier draws haven’t exactly done us a world of good when it comes to the bottom line (winning the goddamn thing!!!!!!…….not just qualifying)

AK47

Huh!! Blogs had to call dibbs on Bayern, didn’t you?! Hmmmm, exciting draw. I hear Chelsea fans think we got an easy group.

Ces1ne

So many on here bring up those dirty chavs, why?????? Worry about our own support/club you numpties…..

Sean

Actually very happy with this draw. Of course Bayern will be tough, but two very beatable sides, and at long last a game to actually make the CL group stage exciting. For me this stage of the competition has probably been the dullest part of the season over the past few years, so whatever the result, Bayern at the Emirates is definitely a welcome change.

Fatgooner

Is it too late to bring back Sanogo for the Bayern game?

AnonymousGun

Dear me.. I thumbed up FG?

Sammyoras

I will be keeping a close eye on a) lewandowski (a potential player) b)pep (potential manager)

Ces1ne

Only if we were a normal club, and not a pensioners hobby………..

Gabe

Not sad and not excited about the group cos I really don’t know how Arsenal will turn up on the game nights. Just looking out to enjoying the CL games as they come 🙂

Bendtnerschristmastree

Well, the only team I have absolutely zero hopes of us beating is Barcelona. Other than that, bring ’em on lads.

F*** her right in Debuchy

Balls

Goonerestgooner

Thumbed you up for your name…quality.

skinnyarse

Hopefully finish above Bayern this time and then it will be a lottery after that, COYG

Gunnersaurs's Lover

Really looking forward to the matches against Bayern, hopefully we beat them at the Emirates.

Goonerestgooner

Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Olympiakos and Dynamo Zagreb…that’s what I call the Group of F.

AntiSpud

Ok now back on transfer speculations

I am Arsene

I don’t get the point of Arsenal being in the Champions League. We have a proven record of failure there. 17 consecutive years in the CL and 17 consecutive times we’ve failed to win it. I’d rather we concentrate on the FA cup and top 4,which are more realistic targets.

Finglish Göön

Mitä Vittu

RamboGera

Can’t wait to see Alexis Messi the arse out of Boateng

Carter mbogo

Bayern Is the only real struggle there

Ces1ne

Did you say the same thing about West Ham for our opening fixture??? My god/Diego, it’s like you never watched AFC before…….we balls it up for fun!!!!!!!

Alexstratz

I think we’ll win both matches against Zagreb, win one and draw one against Olympiakos, draw one and lose one against Bayern. This leads to 11 points.

Kamergunner

I´ll stick my head out and say we´ll beat Bayern and top this group. You can take that to the bank!! COYG!!

Ron

I’d love it if we could beat Bayern at the Grove. But it would mean we’d have to score a goal so it’s probably a bit too much of an ask…

Sir Hugh Massingberd Massingberd

*Places bet for descendants to collect on in 20001 & 20091*

I could have laid money on that seed

Tor

Im a realist at heart and truth be told it is nigh on impossible for us to win the ucl with our current squad. I reckon we will finish second in group stage and most likely get knocked out in the last 16 but with a small chance of reaching the quarter finals depending on the draw.

Stillmatic

We’ll probably beat Bayern away and lose to Zagreb at home.

A classic arsenal thing to do.

lordgunner

could be worst we could be city and get 3 very good team in our group …again

i m sure we are going to qualified the hard way (the arsenal way) 3 defeat in the row away in greece is not very good record
