Ozil: Mertesacker is an example to everyone

Mesut Ozil has hailed Per Mertesacker as an example of professionalism, doing his utmost to bring everything he can to the team.

The German hailed his former international teammate as someone who leads by example both on and off the pitch.

“He’s very focused, very professional,” he told Arsenal Player. “He does his job 100 per cent – he’s not the sort of person who does things by half measures.

“He’s rather the sort of person who, if he has something in his head, wants to see it through. He looks after himself and his diet, and before matches he does his exercises to make sure that he stays fit and doesn’t pick up any injuries.”

You can see what he means in this video in which the Arsenal players are asked to pick their potential star of the season. The answer he gives, along with Mikel Arteta, tell you everything you need to know.

Tutoring Chambers along with it will do just fine.

Epitome of calmness, despite the known deficiencies in his game, he plays to his strengths.

Long may it continue, our ever expanding German contingent.

Too many to choose from! Exciting season ahead…COYG!

And cheering news from the under-19s in Durban: we’re through to the final (I think, unless this comp has a peculiar format), having drawn 1-1 with Stuttgart before beating them 4-2 on penalties. Huddart must have been terrific – I didn’t see the game, just the score on Twitter. Zelalem took the last penalty: nice to know he keeps a cool head. And our sole goal in the game was apparently brilliant, scored by the other kid we’ve got from Lens, Fortune.

BIG FUCKIN GOONER

à propos this, I’d love it if the Per were promoted to co-captain alongside Arteta. He pretty much is de facto anyway, but it’d be nice for the club to have two smart and good co-captains (especially recognising that Arteta might not play as much as The Per)

Cech Mate

Since Na$ri and that guy who was pregnant with a talking boy inside his tummy departed the team seems to click on so well.
a one happy family

I voted for like #69!!!
I don’t feel ashamed for commenting about it either (creeper smile)

Lol, the pregnant man with a boy inside..cool bro

Still recall that game at city about 3 years ago, he was outstanding. For all the stick he gets about his lack of pace, it’s not too often you see it costing us goals. I find it really interesting and equally frustrating that the media and most of the thick as platted dung pundits dig our manager and players out continuously. Look at united who have just spent 15 million on a 31 year old who only managed 15 games last year. They all say what a great player, commanding figure bla bla bla. Can you imagine if we had… Read more »

Not just united, I mean, look at the praise they heap on Chelsea for buying Falcao and even after a dismal display against us they’re still not questioning the rationale behind his loan. The media have built a narrative of mediocrity around us that they refuse to alter. Take Ozil for example, an unfortunate victim of this, many people forget that he was and still is ranked as one of the best midfielders on the planet and yet I’ve seen a few rundowns of the team where he’s listed as average at best. Santi Cazorla is a goddamned genius and… Read more »

Only the british press. Elsewhere in the world AW and AFC are regarded very highly.

The thing is that all opinions are based on transfers and the clubs gross spend. I have just read a ‘predictions for the next season’ article by Phil McNulty, BBC’s editor in chief. All his reasoning for every team’s prediction was grounded in transfer business. Who came in an who went out. Nothing else. No consideration in improvement of players, team cohesion, coaching staff, medical staff or facilities.

Just the kind of world we live in I guess.

There have always been leading CB pairings involving a slow but tall player with good positioning and a smaller but quick player. John the cunt isn’t exactly fast (although he makes Per look quite quick).
I wasn’t calling for a tall CB when we got BFG as we’d only got rid of big phil a short time before, but BFG’s speed is rarely an issue as he usually reads the game really well (and having HB and Kozzer next to him helps).

as much as i think you are right i also think it’s because wenger isn’t british. When a foreigner comes to your country and performs wonders that even your so called Sirs can’t dare. He went through a transition phase and was constantly meeting the demands and requirements of a top club needless to say unearthing young Gems and constantly giving them the middle finger on every nooks and crannies, they have to pick on him and centralise it on arsenal. . Notice how our british players get celebrated on the National team level than when the arsenal shirt is… Read more »

A Very Tall man in every Respect !!

Springbank 1962

I’m not sure there’s a single player in the squad who’s not a positive example for the rest.

Can’t remember the last time I could say that.

i couldnt agree more…also Flamini, even if its just to keep Ozil company as he did with Fabregas, just that fact alone made Flamster worth his 60k a week(if im not wrong):p

This team is so likeable. Not just good players, but good guys. Really good guys

Jams

they take after their manager

col

Great cb him and ķos are solid

Love the BFG! but we seriously need to fix the captain situation. A captain has to be a first choice player. The last two we’ve had, haven’t been. BFG probably only has a year left as a first choice player. Would love Rambo or Santi as Captain.

TOGooner

There is no ‘captain situation’. There is leadership, comraderie and respect; a rare status quo not be fucked with.

stufflinks

Excellent selection of players we got in the mix and to top it off, we got a very fit team to start off with…

oozil

my money on chamberlain.. looks impressive.. though i liked per and arteta’s answer..

col

And signing cech we’ve got the best defence in the pl by a country mile

dodgerz

Per needs to be more focused now that Gabriel is hot on his heels.

mollers

Per is to focus what John Terry is to cuntery.

Arsepedant

We are a class club, with a class manager, and a squad full of class individuals. No-one else can say that.

Jsergio

I am proud of this team, whatever they do this season. A great bunch of guys with serious talent.

Stringer Bell

What refreshing words. You get the feeling that we could finish 2nd, make the champions league final, runners up in capital cup (or whatever it’s called) and win the FA cup and there would quite a few loons screaming for wengers head and how they knew we wouldnt win league bla bla bla.

Simonetta

Couldn’t have said it better. Kudos.

Gooner on Vacation

Never understood the argument about BFG’s pace. He never had pace to begin with and still he managed to get 100+ caps for Germany who were always stacked on all fronts. His game is very cerebural and Wenger didnt match him up with Boscielny without a good reason. The game is not just about indiviual strenght but rather complementing attributes..as discussed in multiple articles on arseblog(❤️) Wenger sees more strenght in cohesive defending rather than individual virtuosos playing cowboy infront of our goal. Thiago/David Luiz comes to my mind..as good as they are, their lack of discipline and impulsive attacking… Read more »

Theo: “I think he can be one of the best midfielders in the premier league… in the world.” Hmm..

Great video though, genuinely really enjoy watching videos of the players – would love to go on a night out (or cinema trip) with them.

Metersecker is highly underrated. Most fans tend to have selective viewing. They form an opinion (often dictated subconciously through media) and choose to see the faults magnified. Per is slow but who needs speed when he is already there. His positioning is exceptional. His weakness in speed is compensated by Koscielny which is why the pair of them work so well. Last season we did not suffer from the mythical Wcup hangover. Per suffered in absence of Koscielny and we leaked in most goals first half of season through wide areas (Corners, crosses set pieces). Damage done. The issue was… Read more »

Per only gets hated on from all these guys who live for playing fifa he rarely ever makes mistakes irl and is a solid defender that reads the game really well! but all these guys who love ultimate team think different. Aslong as he keeps performing and his attitude stays the same id love to see him as our captin who cares what other fans think.

Blogs I live in Bulgaria there is 100 per cent heat in here. Fuck you and your cold summer. I can only wish for something like that. I will trade with you anytime you want. Stop bitching please
