Report: Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea (inc goal)

Arsenal: Cech; Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Coquelin, Cazorla; Ramsey, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Walcott.

Subs: Martinez, Debuchy, Gibbs, Gabriel, Arteta, Iwobi, Giroud

Arsenal completed their pre-season in style after an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain goal saw them win the Community Shield at Wembley this afternoon.

Arsene Wenger’s team saw Theo Walcott preferred to Olivier Giroud up front, Hector Bellerin at right back, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right hand side. The opening minutes were cagey, although there was enough going on for Ramires to scrape his his studs down the shin of Santi Cazorla, as ever the Brazilian getting away without even a talking to from the referee.

Mourinho’s side enjoyed more of the ball and forced a number of corners, while at the other end there was some nice interplay between the Arsenal midfielders before they were crowded out by Chelsea’s defence.

Ramires then hit Ozil in the stomach with a flying knee, before another foul saw Arsenal awarded a free kick out wide. Ozil whipped it it, Walcott flicked a header towards goal but it was easy enough for Courtois to make the first save of the game.

Two minutes later though, there was nothing the Belgian could do when Arsenal took the lead. Walcott fed Oxlade-Chamberlain down the right hand side, he came into the box, stepped inside and lashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner with his left foot. 1-0.

At the other end some last ditch defending prevented Chelsea getting back on even terms, and after a poor pass from Bellerin Ramires curled a shot wide of the far post. The Brazilian ought to have leveled thing sup in the 37th minute when he got on the end of a Loic Remy cross but from 6 yards out he thumped a header over the bar.

Aaron Ramsey smacked a shot into the side netting, and there was a fantastic chance for Oxlade-Chamberlain to get his second after brilliant build-up play from the Gunners saw him with space to drive into but a heavy first touch cost him the chance to shoot and his cross was cleared at the back post by Ivanovic. It meant Arsenal took the one goal lead into the half-time break.

Chelsea made a half-time change, bringing on Radamel Falcao for Remy, and the second period began relatively sedately in that Ramires didn’t try to eviscerate anyone in the first five minutes. Mourinho, clearly unhappy at the lack of ultra-violence from his midfielder, took him off in the 54th minute and replaced him with Oscar.

The less evil Brazilian had a go at goal from distance but pulled his shot wide, before Koscielny defended well to prevent Falcao getting one on one with Cech. Chelsea had plenty of the ball and when Fabregas played Hazard through it looked as they’d have a goal for their momentum, but he blazed the ball over the bar from close range.

Arsenal needed to do something to get back into it, Arsene Wenger deciding that Olivier Giroud would give the team a more of a focal point up front, putting him on for Theo Walcott in the 65th minute. The Frenchman almost made an instant impact, stretching for a cross at the back post which he turned over the bar.

He then saw a shot blocked, before Chelsea were awarded a free kick right on the edge of the Arsenal box after a foul by Coquelin. Oscar stood over it, and despite some shenanigans from Ivanovic trying to put him off, Cech made a fantastic save to push it away from the top corner. He then made a good punch from the resulting corner and from a quick Arsenal break, Giroud clipped a half-chance over the bar.

Cech was again called into action, saving from a Kurt Zouma header, before Courtois saved from Oxlade-Chamberlain. Shortly afterwards, Arsene Wenger made his second change with Mikel Arteta coming on to replace the goalscorer in the 77th minute.

The pressure from Chelsea was growing, desperation stuff kept Falcao out, and there was a further change with Kieran Gibbs replacing Mesut Ozil as Arsenal looked to hang onto the lead. As Chelsea pressed Arsenal looked to hit them on the break, and the game should have been sealed when Ramsey fed Cazorla with just Courtois to beat. His shot deflected back off the keeper and Ramsey’s follow up deflected just wide.

There was a bit of a midfield flare up when Arteta kicked Matic on the ground, but the Chelsea man deserved it. Probably. Like, who cares? There was lots of pressure, Arteta took a sneaky elbow in the head from Falcao as the ball bounced around the area, and the game went into 4 minutes of injury time.

There was almost a second goal when Courtois denied Gibbs inside the last 60 seconds, but Arsenal hung on, Chelsea were beaten, Wenger had his victory over Mourinho, now the season can start.

Up yours, Mourinho.

Fabulous

And Hazard owned so bad by Bellerin. Better than Sanchez? Fuck that shit!

Dylan

Wait, Hazard was on the field today?

bims lay

lol…naaah, he couldn’t have been!

Wenger's Broken Zip

Let’s keep it up for the first points of the season against West Ham!

Cygan's Magical Left Foot

To be fair to Hazard, The OX is a nightmare for any left back not just Hazard.

Simon

He isn’t a left back

the_alchemist

Anybody checked the pockets of our defenders? He’s there somewhere…

kampala gooner

Any body know a good carpenter the trophy cabinet is getting a little cramped up. Cheers to the treble.

kampala gooner

Any body know a good carpenter the trophy cabinet is getting a little cramped up.

Gudang Pelor

You can say that again 😉

ETTAN

Does anyone know a good carpenter? The trophy cabinet is getting a little cramped up.

Indian_Gooner

He threw away his medal and Mr Stuart Robson thinks Wenger should shake that cunt’s hand. Expect him to say it was just a pre-season friendly.

Fabulous

Stuart Robson is a worthy competition to Mourinho and Terry for top cunt. I wouldn’t pay attention to him.

Cygan's Magical Left Foot

I think you can fit Evra somewhere there.

Mick Mahoney

Don’t let him hear you that. He’s mad ‘Ee is.

swongken

had to listen to michael effing owen. top class cunt.

D

Firstly, Mourinho is a cunt. And I hate to ever agree with that bald headed moron on anything, but I also think Wenger should have shook that amoeba’s hand. Wenger shouldn’t let, even that toilet of a man, lower his classy nature.

D

It was lols though.

TommyGun

Well said. I love the Ox but what is going on with his hair? Did he ask his barber for “a nice fun shape that lifts the hair out of the eyes”? To be fair he can sport a mullet if he keeps this up, COYG.

Cornelius P. Snuffington III

Fuck Chelsea. Just, fuck Chelsea. That felt good. Oh, and fuck Chelsea.

SFGiants

You forgot to add “fuck Mourinho!”

CB

Beautiful positive start to the season, 4th trophy in a row, Mourinho jinx ended for Wenger, we took the better Chelsea keeper.
We more than matched them, without Sanchez. Looking forward to the season.
COYR!!

CB

Trez, looking forward to your comments.

CB

Noted below.

henkamp

We definitely brought it to them, that’s for sure. They may have played without the bricklayer’s apprentice up front, but we didn’t have Sanchez either. The look on Mourinho’s face when Arteta and the BFG lifted the shield was telling. He knows, deep down, change is coming. His loutish ways of buying trophies with Russian currency are coming to an end.

brad

The guys definitely proved they can do amazing work without Alexis. Which should be a huge boost to their confidence. Imagine a side where Alexis has to fight his way back in.

Did miss Jack for the celebration though.

CB

What do you think of Chelsea?

Mikel Artekkers

Never heard of ’em.

Bill o reilly

SHIT!

badaab

It’s best not to say anything mean about a club established in 2003 with no history.

Pearson

And a club that rents it’s pitch from a landlord and who have been relegated more times than they’ve won the league

bims lay

yep!…the much touted mounrinho monkey on arsene’s shoulder has been well and truly put where it really belongs………up mourinho’s ass!

and the highlight of the day to me is how arsene snubbed him, when he was shaking the hands of the arsenal squad, ( in front of the main bt sport camera mind you) pretending to be this “generous loser in defeat” ….priceless!

Sit down mourinho

A bit disappointing though to see the Arsenal players accepting his c+ntisch hand shaking and treating him as if he was a good guy and not the giant pr*ck he is.

A who cares, we won a trophy against these whale poo infested binjuice sipping clobhopping bandits.
Feels good 😀

PS: f*ck off chelski, f*ck off, and the boring one can f*ck off too

asdfg

Come on Arsenal!!

leroy

cech has 3 trophies in 3 matches. not a bad return on 11m. 4 more to go

AnonymousGun

Why just 4 more? Oh you mean this season? but he aint playing in cup games 😮

EDgooner4ever

Fuck Mourinho!

I don't comment here often

That is so Mourinho to stand right in front of the cameras and make a huge deal out of shaking hands with the opposition players. Good to see Wenger is not amused. What a massive shorts-wearing child. Mourinho counts the Community Shield among his trophies when he lists them, so this will hurt him.

Great performances from Bellerin, Ramsey, and Koscielny in particular.

Santi's Smile

Think Nacho deserves a shout, too. So underrated, especially physically. Wiped out 2 Chelsea players twice. Positive on offense, assured on defense. Contributed so much to Arsenal controlling the match.

mashkeyboardgetusername

HA HA HA.

CUNTS.

Cracked

Malaysia cup, Emirates cup, charity shield. Stop the season everyone we’ve won the treble already.

Singaporean

Do you mean Barclays Asia trophy? That’s Singapore, not Malaysia.

DB10

Trust the Singaporean to correct it.

That's Mine, Nachos

*Singapore, but COYG!

Fellonious

I think the best thing is we have won the FA Cup two years in a row, and the Community Shield two years in a row. Wenger has really done well with his acquisitions the last few years. I always felt shipping Robin Van Cuntie (in particular), Song and Nasri were a sign of something going on behind the scenes. Look at Sterling at Liverpool? If we still had these wankers how would Walcott’s contract saga have worked out?

Silent Stan's Content Mustache

That dumb, empty expression on Mourinho’s face. Priceless.

Stefan

I’m officially amped about the arsenal this season! There’s just something in the air.

like a red head Ljungberg

cech’s laughing cech’s laughing! woohoo!! 😀

Gunner pundit

Petr Cech best keeper in the league hands down. Good win over chelski. Well done chamberlain. Come on you gooners.

Arsetronomy

STICK THAT UP YOUR HOLE MOURINHO!

Django unhinged

Who’s the specialist in failure now then?

like a red head Ljungberg

i guess his parents? absolutely failed raising him

SFGiants

Actually they failed in using proper birth-control methods.

Arsepedant

It’s amazing he didn’t get swallowed before he was conceived.

Ken

Mourinho you can start mourning now.. Arsene Tactically spot on today. Well done lads.

Bitter Pill

What Does The OX Say?!!!

like a red head Ljungberg

i cant help but wonder he’s learning from santi’s left foot

AnonymousGun

Santi’s left foot, Sanchez’s work rate..

What is he? the collector?

I suggest he take Ozil’s vision next..

Dylan

“Mourinho’s a wanker”

gooner24

Bus Wanker !

COWABUNGAAAAA

ferngunner

Mourinho reaction after Ramires’ header miss. haha bloody cunt!

Mpls

The two deserve each other.

Arsetronomy

Have to say Giroud looked rusty I do hope we get a striker in to complement him, I think the last piece of the puzzle is a marquee striker, our midfield is STACKED with goodness, defence so tidy and goalkeeper now. But who?? Wish we could have Bale up there.

assistantref

Haha, no Arseblog story would be complete without someone moaning about how Wenger needs to sign X.

rr

so long, cunts! thanks for Cech btw!

Temi

6 wins a row @ Wembley…Bow down Mourinho thou bitch!

Clock-End Mike

Can anyone remember when we last lost a match at Wembley?

Clock-End Mike

OK, I think I’ve found it (2011). And I don’t want to remember that.

Less Rambly Pete

Fucking yaaaas!!! Get it up yas. Die monkey die.

Crash Fistfight

Are you say “the monkey, the” in German?

Goonerestgooner

So in the last 3 years, Wenger has won 2 trophies (4 if you include the community shield, which seemed to count for Man City), spent some fucking money, and now beaten a Mourinho team….what on earth are the media (and fatgooner) going to criticise him for now??

Runkeball

They’ll always have something to moan about.

Meanwhile, Mourinho’s face like a funeral = a memory to savour!

AntiSpud

Ermm Fatgooner’s, Idiots don’t have the same judgment and perspectives others. So he can be forgiven. The press? Humm fuck them all. Great day today. To be honest I’m more thrilled by this than last year’s FA cup. The look in Maureen ‘s eyes is priceless

You realize Wenger has finally started doing what the Wenger out crowd has been asking for for years. Better organized defensively vs the best teams and the old Arsenal way/Gung Ho style has been thrown out the window thank god. Its fine vs Norwich and Sunderland, but vs City, Chelsea and Barcelona, defensive organization is important. We finally spend some of the money that has been rotting on our bank account for 6 years now. In 2010 we reportedly had over a 100 mill in cash reserves, but we still sold our best players and went bargain shopping. That has… Read more »

goonerestgooner

First off, I wasn’t addressing the “Wenger Out” crowd in my post. Secondly, it was a light-hearted comment and wasn’t intended to be taken so seriously. Thirdly, you kinda missed my point. Whatever Wenger is doing now, if that be what he’s “critics” wanted all along or his own thing, it’s working so the question still remains….what will people criticise him for now? (my guess is failure to win the league for a decade) Lastly, please point out where I say “I told you so”, because I can’t see it. There’s a few other points in your post I could… Read more »

Is there a way I can thumb down this comment a thousand times.

It is somewhat silly to say i told you so when everything at the club has changed in line with what the critics was asking for. The gung ho attack football no matter who the opponent is in the past and Wenger has become more tactically aware and learned how to be more cynical and actually defend as a unit when it is required. Also we have started using some of the money that have been rotting away on our bank account for 6 years now. In 2010 we reportedly had over 100 million pounds in cash reserves. in 2011… Read more »

Chelsea collecting “Runners-up” medals… How can you be a runner up in a single game? Surely its just winners and losers?!

Boilermaker Gunner

Good game. The team looks out for each other

Loved the mini brawl at the end
Mourinho is a cunt
JT is a cunt

Wow Wembley has started to look almost as our home ground. haven’t lost there in quite a while.

“Anfield South” – Brendan Rodgers

Man Manny

Good tonic for the season. Some may say it’s a mere friendly but make no mistake, this is a big boost for the boys.
The effect of this win will be beyond just Chelsea; it will influence other big games this season. I feel good.

Gunner in Canada

Looking at the starting lineups, for both teams, this was no ordinary friendly. Both teams really wanted to win.

Seeing the look on Terry’s face after the game, you can just tell what he was thinking :

“OMG Roman, what were you thinking, letting Cech go to Arsenal ?”

Redsy

They gave us the bus conductor and we parked it 🙂

Rufusstan

The first minutes alone made it very clear that neither side were seeing this as a friendly (Rameres on Santi’s ankle and the BFG flattening Cesc just two examples).

the_alchemist

Good to hear a certain cesc was flattened by our own BFG!

bims lay

This aint no friendly, there is too much bad water under the bridge (pun intended!). There can never be a “friendly” match between arsenal and chelsea, or mourinho and arsene …….both fielded very strong teams for the match, and you can see from the mini battles going on on the pitch that the intention from both was to win this!…….and you can also confirm this from the tactical substitutions made by both managers,….and reaction from both sets of fans…this is no friendly match!

Wangge

I’m so happy!

Eric Blair

Fantastic. Cech came here for clean sheets, Wenger watched Man Utd v Crystal Palace from 1990 afternoon before the game.

What’s the record for consecutive wins at Wembley? We’re on 6 now. Happy days.

Gunner in Canada

Speaking of clean sheets, the German commentator made a comment that over his Chelsea career, Petr Cech had 220 clean sheets. That will win you a lot of games.

Springbank 1962

Man of the match: Laurent Koscielny.

Rufusstan

One of the most efficient moves of the game was putting Falcao straight from the bench into Koscienly’s pocket.

iceberg10

@ ruffustan sorry thumbed u down by mistake. Still shaking with excitement. Class comment!

bims lay

lol…spot on!

assistantref

Yep. I think the Ox knew it too when he basically told the BT sport morons that they didn’t know what they were doing giving him MOTM. Class guys (both of them).

Brent

Enjoyed the lack of post match handshake between Wenger and Josefina.

Boilermaker Gunner

Did Wenger shake hands with him?

Arsepedant

Nope, snubbed the cunt twice. The second one was the best. In fact, it was such a great snub it may well be my favourite moment of the match.

Belt 'er in

Glorified friendly or not, any day that brings that look to John Terry’s face is a thing of beauty

afolabi ademakinwa

Nice one now the season starts

Hutch

I look forward to that cunt trying to deflect that his team lost in his post-match press conference.

Go fuck yourself Mourinho.

Roastimbou27

When Cech just cleared out John Terry. <3

Springbank 1962

Mourinho has so much ‘class’ he throws his medal away. What a pathetic little dick.

No change there, then.

Runkeball

Yes, that’s a classy gesture from The Special One.

Andy Mack

As a kid one of our neighbours sons would tap his own chest and say “I’m Special”!
I guess it must have been MaureenO.
Glad he doesn’t need the wheelchair anymore!

Hahaha just watched that three year old throw a tantrum by throwing his loser’s medal into the crowd.

Sit down chelshit.

Jerry Seinfeld

What’s the deal with that Moronhio?

A great manager would ask a specialist for advice on how to play exciting attacking football not sneak away behind his back.

MannyG

Wonder why Hazard wasn’t playing today

Jerry Seinfeld

Yeah, Messi didn’t do anything this game besides shoot 30 ft above the crossbar. Alexis and Alex would’ve buried that chance.

Tibetan Gooner

It feels really good!!!

Ozziegun

What a sore loser mouninho is, throwing his losers medal into the crowd like that. Claseeless cunt

bims lay

highlight of the day for me…..proves this really hits him below the belt, despite his trying to pretend to the rest of the world that it didn’t!

Goooooner

Wenger walking right past mourinho was quite funny

Hi-brid

Fucking loving that. Just forewent two and a half hours by a sunny Venice pool to watch. Worth every second.

Paul

I have heard Venice smells? Good decision on all fronts…:-)

Mpls

I wonder if they imitated the smell at the Venetian in Vegas
That would be rad, albeit a poor business move.

masterofthegoonaverse

The gondoliers in Vegas are wankers.

Paul

Exactly what I hoped for, we were the better team by far, and Wenger’s “big game management” was superb!
Arteta mixed it up and “Agent Gibbs” was everywhere!

So happy to be a Gunner!

Paul

and putting on the HFB against a 75% spent Cunt and Cahill was excellent imo.
