Ramsey: we stuck to the plan

Aaron Ramsey said Arsenal’s quality won out as they scored three times in the second half to beat Watford 3-0 today.

The Gunners were frustrated in the first period but should have been ahead, Ramsey himself missing a good chance after a great Alexis pass. However, the Welshman got off the mark for the club this season, netting the third in a win which returns Arsene Wenger’s side to second in the table.

He said that they had to stick the plan in the second period and it was one that worked.

“It’s good to come back to winning ways in the Premier League,” he told Sky Sports. “It was a difficult first hallf, they pressed us really well, but we stuck to the game plan, and our quality showed in the second half.

“The pitch was quite dry, they didn’t water it and that took the zip out of it. We had to get the ball, switch sides, combine in the box which we did in the second half well.”

And on his first goal of the season, one which will take some pressure off him, he said, “It’s been a while since I scored for Arsenal, so I’m delighted. I’ll take anything at the moment, but I’m delighted it went in.”

After scoring, he put the ball under his shirt to do an uncanny impression of Grant Holt.

hmmm…on our way to the top

Stuart Steele (@Stuart_Ten)

Glad he got his goal, he was having a mare but kept on plugging away

Burak

Just in case anyone is confused, he’s obviously talking about this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mare

Inverted Hammer

Yes Ramsey. Stick to plan A and we won’t need a plan B!

Big Chief from Antarctica

Sod off, Barcelona. Bellerin is a proper North London bloke.

assistantref

You know it’s coming, sadly, the way he’s been playing and the way Barca don’t have a reliable RB for the future. We’ve just got to hope that when it does come he tells them to fuck off.

Thebeanuk

Well, we no longer need the money. If we continue to pick up a few trophies (tough I know) he won’t go anywhere. He loves Arsene and Arsenal.

Ozil's eyes

The 2011 Ramsey was on show today at he scored

Joblow

Great game play today Aaron!

Hutch

Fan of his football, yes.

Fan of his goal celebration, no.

Cornelius P. Snuffington III

Apparently his wife’s eight months pregnant.

Yorkshire Gunner

And here I was thinking he was impersonating Costa

TeeCee

If he’d wanted to impersonate Costa, the celebration would have consisted of someone smashing his face repeatedly with a baseball bat, then cutting his ears off and glueing them to his neck.

Possession

Hope she’s not having a Mare….

Katy.

Goal celebrations like that usually mean there’ll be an addition to the family. 🙂

ger

How the fuck does your man come back from South America, two intl matches, 48 hours off, and carrying a groin injury and play like that?

Gunnersshire

Mental Strength

Mpls

Strength’s a massive player when he shows up, but I think he’s talking about Alexis.

Or are they one in the same???

Paul

Because he is Alexis Sanchez!

Clark

He showed great character

Gbenga

how many pl clean sheet does Cech has now??

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

5 clean sheets for cech joined with J.Hart, come next week I hope for a 6th and to be first with most celan sheets same as ozil joined with silva on assist rankings hope he surpass it next week to.

Crash Fistfight

I’m glad he confirmed my suspicions about the pitch – the ball looked to be rolling really slowly in the first half. Did they water it at half-time?

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

Suspicious ? really I could see the pitch was dry from the sky the grass looked great and the ball was going so slow, they didn’t water the pitch on purpose but that backfired for them as sometimes we pass with more speed around the box and the players can’t catch the ball and when santi palyerd ozil it has time to do what he wants score, win a penalty or pass it to alexis. Özorlexisey

Finally the welshman gets among the goals for club and country both. You made those booers lick their own shit. And three points are always welcome.

SGK

God bless you you magnificent basterd. Congrats on the baby, may he be a gooner too! Bring on Bayern.

David C

well done to all. Bellerin might be my man of the match, although that was such a team performance. Cazorla, Sanchez, Ozil…all of ’em! haha.

AntiSpud

Reg will not be singing any pro Arsenal song anytime soon. Well done guys

Man Manny

This greatest asset of this team is their maturity.

this week

Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding.

We need to keep our Aaron.

Ramsey is the typical British footballer; somewhat limited technically, but over-compensating that with energy and desire a la Rooney, Lampard and Beckham. He works hard to earn his chances like that first half sitter, only for his limited technique to ultimately fail him. It is why Wenger has banished him to the wings to learn some skills that cannot be taught. His goal should not fool you, Rambo is another British journeyman who is quite fortunate.

Pass debuchy from the left hand side

What a load of cobblers

OlivierGirouud12

Ramsey infuriates me sometimes trying to dribble too much and taking too many touches before passing.

mato

I know this will be unpopular here but seriously is there one player in this arsenal team who has been given as much time to prove himself without doing much as ramsey has? IMHO i think ramsey is the most overrated player both by wenger and some fans he could get away with murder. Its baffling that people use the fact that he runs araand’ abit to almost give him a free pass while im essence he’s more often than not chasing after opponents after he has invariably lost the ball or made some poor decisions in the final third… Read more »

Stewart Robson's therapist

Er, yeah, because you obviously put so much effort into finding “credible data” to support your argument. A pompous diatribe worthy of Piers Moron, this.

Nico

He’s our best right winger by far (bar Walcott) and he’s not even a winger.

Lolest

Yes, there is. Jack Wilshere

andr

I would point out that he has scored 26 goals in the past 2 seasons and a good number of assists too but something tells me that you have already made your mind up about him

Sebastián

Definitely the MOTM for me. Incredible performance full of drive, determination and will to make things happen. That’s Ramsey, never hiding when the going gets tough. Not a passive player, always involved in every good movement from the team but very criticised for his eagerness, strangely. Hope he can build some momentum from this and recover his place at CM, where I believe he’s much needed.

Clock-End Mike

“impression of Grant Holt” LOL

santori

Gaffer got it right putting Giroud on. Watford gave a lot first half and we looked frankly slightly tentative. But they had punched themselves drunk second half and were sitting back more which meant it was like unlocking the chinese puzzle. In which case Giroud effectively would get more joy where Walcott was over the large stretch of the game rendered less effective with the Hornets discipline between the lines. Its not a zero sum game, not Giroud or Walcott. We need both to be on point, they are different tools for different scenarios. Likewise this whole talk about Per… Read more »

Very wise of you to result to cheap invectives to make your point.tough internet guy…

rmpauden

Poor by Watford on the grass. You could see on tv the ball was taking an extra half second to get to the player and slowing up our play

rmpauden

And i have been critical of Ramsey, but i thought he had a good game

Paul

I have said it many times, Ramsey’s failings are highlighted because he is always so prominent in the game, may that always be the case! Well done Aaron!

Arshavin's fake moustache

Ramsey is also playing a different game to the purple patch – he’s not in the middle running off giroud’s hold up play. Fair play to him.
