Wenger: Players have title belief

Arsene Wenger says that the defensive contributions of players like Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil are a sign that this Arsenal team are ready to go the distance in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners moved to the top of the table this weekend after a 2-1 win over Everton, and the Arsenal maanger believes the fact that offensive players are digging in augurs well for the season ahead.

“They are all on board and they have the belief,” he said. “Cazorla won many balls and blocked many tackles, even Özil.

“Once you have that in the team, it is not easy to get it, but it shows the belief is there and then you need enough humility to keep it in there.

“You need to convince the players that you have to work hard to win football games in the Premier League and that you need all 11 to do that.”

However, Wenger is still reticent to say this result means Arsenal will win the league.

“It’s too early,” he said. “The only thing I can say since 1 January 2015 we have shown consistency and this week we have shown consistency. That has been questioned many times by people.”

I believe the last word of the article should be Cunts. That is the quote Mr. Wenger gave.

arabmoney

I say we clone Ozil.

Ajinkya

And Bellerin too, for when the DNA bandwagon comes calling..

Gutbukket Deffrolla

If we could do a gene-splice we could end up with an Ozil who never gets accused of being lazy and not moving fast enough.

Rambo sambo

Everyone is putting in a shift and playing their part in keeping out the other team when we lose possession. Lovely to see.

How amazing has Cech been in goal though? Having that presence behind them has got to be filling all the lads with tremendous confidence.

Top, top signing.

Pigtank

I am so excited!

Pervert! Call me up 😉

And I just cant hide it

Looking across the Premier League no other manager deserves to win the title more than Wenger.

He has been a purist, lived by his principles, built a team well within budget (a silly manager was trying to say Arsenal have spent a lot of money in the last three years!) that will last well beyond his current contract (unlike a certain red nosed bully), with many home grown players.

Hope the players continue to live up to the belief of the manager, in which case we should be there or there abouts by the end of the season.

Nah. Maureen deserves it more!

Why anyone on this site would thumb down your comment is beyond me. COYG!!

Ferngunner

Chelsea scum supporters are beside themselves at how the club is performing…..well this is how it used to be before they started supporting it in 2004.

Plastic.

These days there is this unexplainable feeling when watching Arsenal games! There is definitely a genuine belief in this group, and it has been amazing (albeit very stressful at times) to watch them develop into the efficient machine they are today! Hopefully this is the year our experience finally helps us go the distance! What a time to be a Gooner!

Ozil's eyes

I have a good feeling the 2nd half of the season we will be stronger with Jack, welbeck, Rosicky coming back. Lil bit concerned with Ox. He has got bags of pace, so much ability but it’s not working out for him. Whether it’s lack of self belief or poor match fitness I don’t know. Our Coq needs protection it’s the only one we have and I can’t imagine a lot happening without our Coq

Goone's Farm

Sheffield on Tuesday are a perfect opportunity for him to have a dominant performance and make amends. I feel all he needs are a few free balls to chase and put past an isolated keeper to truly explode and make the elusive breakthrough we’ve been waiting for him to make, like Ramsey did in 2013-14. That bit of composure to not panic or rush the final ball is the only thing holding him back.

Goone's Farm

Talking about Ox there btw 😀

I couldn’t tell..thanks

How about getting Drogba in the winter, to help us win the title? Cech already does.

Fatgooner

“WENGER: PLAYERS HAVE TITLE BELIEF” Sorry, but I don’t. Yeah, go ahead and slag me off: “Typical negative Fatgooner.” The problem with the situation that we are in right now is that we’ve been here before a number of times during the last eight years and every time we’ve blow it. I’m absolutely delighted and surprised at the way we’ve been playing recently. The win against Everton was particularly impressive because it came on the back of a very tough mid-week game and victory against arguably the best club side in Europe. This is one of Wenger’s best spells since… Read more »

Goone's Farm

I disagree. We have never in the years you mentioned been as prepared for a title haul as we are this year. If you recall, in 2013 we had the first spot for the longest number of weeks but that was down to us not being challenged by the strong teams yet, until we were and we crumbled like a house of cards with numerous humiliating scores such as 5-1 vs the mugsmashers, 6-0 vs the cunts, 6-3 vs the oil mancs and we couldn’t even beat Moyes’ United. We couldn’t perform in “big games”. That is no longer the… Read more »

All hail Fatgooner. He can see the future. 17996 years into the future, and we still haven’t won the title. Dayum.

Summary for those who are “tldr”.

Wenger never buy the players I want.
We have crumbled before, we will crumble again.
We are lucky that other teams are out of sorts.

One sentence summary:
Wenger out.

Martin Finley

I used to be Wenger out since around 2010-2011 when it first came out we we’re sitting on a huge pile of cash reserves but still was not investing in the squad. The 5 year debt plan which required Wenger to qualify for the Champions League in 3 of those 5 seasons was over, we qualified every season and cashed in big on selling some star players aswell, sitting on 130 mill in cash reserves. But we went out looking for bargains yet again showing no ambition at all and deploying the same transparent “tactics” and making the same subs… Read more »

I feel sad for you buddy. All i see is positives lots and lots of positives. Personally i dont even believe buying players makes champions but maybe im just brainwashed. We bought the one player we have always been missing petr cech, dm trolling has been shut down by the most passionate dm in the league , sorry he didnt cost 50million. I was worried when i saw giroud starting because i feel like he does better from the bench. But when he proves me wrong by scoring the opening goal, a sweet one at that, i realise how hard… Read more »

Arsenal Way: By the player who will make us better Man City Way: Buy all the best players that we can get our hands on, wonder why Arsenal stopped selling you players, start buying entire clubs from around the world instead Chelsea Way: Buy all the best players that we can get our hands on, loan out all of the young ones so that nobody else can buy them, use the mature ones up and ruin them within 18 months, run through managers as fast as you run through new players, turn everybody you buy into a super-sized cunt Man… Read more »

You seem so very certain of yourself. You have a litany of reasons. You even cite history in your arguments. All of this assembled just because you want to seem rational when you demand Wenger should go. And, let’s be honest, that’s the bottom-line for you, isn’t it? You want Wenger to leave our club. Any way. Any how. You just want him gone. No point the rest of us wondering why. On the face of it we’re the fourth richest club in the Premier League and by rights – given that spending power translates into points – we should… Read more »

I can see where fatgooner is coming from. Yes the team is in much better shape than for several years, but we are still only one or two injuries away from a collapse of form. The Walcott/Giroud combo gives us variety and options, but if one or both become unavailable we might struggle to score and break teams down. We need more depth and quality at centre forward, and hopefully Wenger makes a move in January, otherwise we might be once again rueing what might have been in May.

PodB

I agree … we need back-up but it has to be quality for Coq and the strikers, just in case. But unlike Fatgooner I can’t see us totally collapsing becos our squad depth is just about right and we have Alexis, Cech and some fucking good players to come back in aka Jack W, Danny, Thomas, Aaron, Joel C and those younger lads. If the Coq can grow into such a stud, then one of the younger talents can too. COYG! PS” The Capital One cup should see our total reserve team and Cech start. Only Jose rates it as… Read more »

Gutbukket Deffrolla

We don’t condemn our manager and demand he be sacked on the strength of things that might happen, assuming that only those two players have any hope of scoring a sufficient number of goals to bring us any chance of success. Under Wenger our team regularly has more scorers each season than other teams do, and funnily enough, when we have a favourite striker out, these other players have often stepped up and scored goals that win matches for us. What we get is called a team effort. It has been a feature of Wenger teams for years but is… Read more »

Its not: ‘Typical Negative Fatgooner’, but a complete unwillingness to judge on anything resembling a level playing field. If random events go against us (injuries etc), it’s Wenger’s fault, but if they go our way, then its just expected we take advantage. Its also the old Gambler’s falacy. — Just because Arsenal sides have crumbled before is no reason this one will, even before you start counting the fact that this squad is stronger than anything we have had in years. There are only 2 players from 2008 still at the club (and one has left and come back). Only… Read more »

No it isn’t. We are Arsenal WE HAVE TO WIN TO BIG TROPHIES. If we yet again collapse and disappear then it will be embarrassing and unacceptable. THE DESTINATION IS ALL-IMPORTANT: in 20 years’ time nobody will say: “Arsenal had a great mid-season run”. What matters is the silverware on the sideboard.

ZA Gunner

WE HAVE WON TWO BIG TROPHIES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. So get a grip.

Runkeball

And yet out there in football reality there are millions of people who support so called lesser teams knowing and accepting that they will probably never win squat. But there they are, year after year standing by their team. Real football fans!

What kind of a fan writes off his team as an embarrassment if they don’t “WIN TO BIG TROPHIES”?

Gutbukket Deffrolla

It’s we WANT to win big trophies. Only weak-minded fans worry about the EMBARRASSMENT!!!!!!!!! they might face if the team they support doesn’t actually win big trophies every season. Who is going to lambast you for Arsenal not winning the Premier League for a few years? Who is so important in this world that them saying “Haha Arsenal have never won the Champions League” actually matters? The fans of other teams? Who gives a fuck about what they think. If we win the PL this year they will say we were lucky and point out every flaw we had during… Read more »

A mass clear out? Is that your idea of improving a team that so far has won 2 consecutive FA cups? Actually, never mind what we have or haven’t won. Is that your idea for any team to make an improvement? What planet are you on mate?

Carlsenal

I totally disagree with you. 20011 is in the future, you should know this.

Reality Check

You don’t treat Arsenal as your own, if you did, you’d stay positive and give them the benefit of the doubt. But Arsenal is a source of an ego boost for you, that’s why you are so negative, scared and disappointed all the time.
Should’ve done more research before choosing to support Arsenal.

Fuzz

We are privileged to have Wenger in the league. The man epitomises respect and when his respect for his players is returned and they get it, we see something amazing. I hope he gets another league win before he retires.

VintageFuzz

Well hello there,Fuzz, haven’t seen you around? Haha on a serious note, I understand the fear of this team crumbling, everybody has it deep down but predicting it is weak. Wenger deserves more than just another league win. He just oozes class and respect. The way he has backed this team is motivating them to pay that belief back.

CJ

If Coq can play every minute of every game between now and the end of the season without picking up an injury or losing form, we have a chance.

Gutbukket Deffrolla

But if he can’t….we have a chance.

Matt

What’s up with Bilek the young Polish DM Wenger got last year? It would be nice to start giving him some games, maybe in the cups; maybe Wenger wouldn’t need to get any top DM to compete or cover Coquelin.

ZA Gunner

He’s still only 17… A year younger than Zelalem. Might not be ready for the step up yet.

Gutbukket Deffrolla

Be happy though, because he is watching and learning from both le Coq and Club Captain Arteta. He’ll really know his trade by the time Wenger starts to ease him into the squad.

Stewart Robson's therapist

If City play like they did yesterday when they come down to the Emirates, we will smash them. Seriously, it’s embarrassing for English football if one of the two sides that played in that Manchester derby yesterday wins the title. For the sake of the Premier League, Arsenal have to be this year’s champions, and we have the team to do it.

We’re all behind you, Mr Wenger.

Ronnie Pickering

I’ve been saying for a long time now this Arsenal side posses something extra that Arsenal sides over the last 7 or 8 years didn’t , resolve . The emergence of Coquelin and the signing of Cech have only strengthened that belief for me . If we have our usual strong finish then we’re gonna be right amongst it .

Dan

Love this new bunch of players, for the first time in a long time we don’t have players who think that they are too good for the arsenal always threatening to leave. It’s like the players we have love the club and love being here people like bellerin saying they are not interested in going back to barca and Gabriel showing sheer passion even though he is still new to the club. Hope they win a few trophies this season

Mark

The biggest issue that can derail us will be injuries to key players that we really don’t have replacements for the squad for what they bring (Coquelin, Sanchez, Ozil and even Bellerin to me would top the list). Yes we will get Wilshere, Ramsey and Welbeck back at some point, but how we do over the next 75 days will be key as to our chances to win the league. Wenger is going to through everything he can to advance out of the CL group and we have some tough league matches in that stretch too. Right now he has… Read more »

I have nothing to say other than I am so happy for all the Gunners and our players and our manager. To add to this bliss the sideshow put on by that pathetic Chelsea cunt. WOW !!! Things couldn’t be better right now..:):):)

Hehehe

Chelsea fan told me earlier in season that Moarinho knows and was right to sell Cech

I told him he was right particularly since it was at 12m quid.:D

Specialist in failure indeed.

Specialist in selling a great player to his biggest local rival.
