Xhaka: I’ll come back stronger from penalty miss

Granit Xhaka says his penalty miss which saw Switzerland eliminated from the European Championships won’t put him off taking penalties in the future.

The Arsenal new boy sliced his spot-kick wide, and with Poland scoring all of theirs, Xhaka’s miss proved decisive.

Speaking to Swiss television afterwards though, he insisted it wouldn’t affect him in the long-term.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I will make sure I come back even stronger,” he said.

“I took the penalty the way I always do. But I didn’t connect properly with the ball. I am still a young person, only 23. This just makes me stronger.

“And I promise I will step up at the next penalty shootout.”

Rock-solid mentality. Love it.

Bosscielny

No he’s shit. I wish we had signed Charlie Adam.

The great Neil Lennon also agrees with me.

Fabulous

In other news Giroud was massive for France in the second half. Glorious assist for Griezmann and played a huge part in Duffy getting sent off. We always play down his abilities but as most have pointed out its the lack of alternative/support that’s holding us back.

Paul

That and a world class striker…

Fabulous

We should probably get Griezmann then Paul ?

Arseology - Reloaded

You can polish and gloss a terd all you want. It’s still a terd.

ajd

I’ll take your word for that, that’s something I’ve never tried myself and never will

Anonymarse

Good way to get smelly hands

Adriano

Spot on mate

Coq au Vin

Absofuckinglutely! Giroud was a giant for Les BLEUS. The knock down for the second was awesome… Surprised whoever those two cunts he leaped over like a salmon ((c) Arsenlog 2015) didn’t stay down for 10 minutes to waste time… Oh wait, they needed a goal by then HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH… I really enjoyed the left thumb and right thumb action there!!! ALLEZ LES BLEUS!

Coq au Vin

And I wanted Deschamps to go toe to toe with that prick from Forest (you pick which one I’m talking about)

Coq au Vin

And cunt number 13 should of been sent off for 2 yellows. As soon as I saw an Italian ref, I knew it would be tough but I didn’t think he would be so shit…

Cracked

Pretty standard, what’s he supposed to say: “I am a distraught and broken man, my confidence is shattered and I will never be the same player again.” ?

I joke I joke

Put your pitchforks away.

Paul

Already had mine out sorry!

Cracked

Ouch!

Please put your pitchforks away?

Cagooner

And in other other news, Alexis’ summer vacation begins this evening!

Paul

That’s not actually “news”….

PeteyB

It is to me

Cdm995

Not so much a summer vacation as a summer beach training regime.

Anonymarse

Shit happens

Paul

Very happy to having Granit starting for us next season. COYG!

Cagooner

Not a good weekend for Arsenal players taking penalties! Now Mesut misses.

Anonymous Kumquat

I think Mesut deliberately missed just to make Granit feel a bit better. What a guy.

Gooneron

He is emotionally assisting Xhaka already

Lord Bendtner

Ozhaka

GeneWildersCrazyDNA

I’d not worry too much, we barely get more than 2 or 3 penalties a season.

Thanks refs, thanks.

Paul

Well that’s two players out of the penalty taking list….:-)

Paul

With Vardy not coming, our penalty awards will remain at a very low level anyway…:-)

anteneh

Remind Ozil as well.

I love sanogo

I love taking penalties.

Rage

Xhaka and Ozil miss… Not to worry we don’t get penalties anyway!

Bitchplease

I like Carrasco he’s a great winger, Wenger should think about signing him.

Santi's Smile

Bummed it was his miss that cost his squad. Still, a longer break for a new signing before the start of the real season can’t be a bad thing.

santori

Remedial penalty lessons for all Arsenal players please Wenger.:D First Granit now Ozil. On the plus side, good show by Giroud today. France struggled a bit and were impatient due to the early penalty to Ireland. But Giroud’s touch and distribution when he isn’t scoring is simply sublime. There is a reason why Deschamp plays him ahead of say Lacazette. Although Gignac came on and put in a shift too. Not sure why the former Toulouse man is plying his trade in Mexico. Fact is most teams have to play a strong physical CF when they have to break down… Read more »

Third Plebeian

All great players have missed penalties. It’s a non-event, except that rival fans love to make it one. I suppose we might do the same if someone like Kane or Dier miss a penalty against Iceland tomorrow!

Hleb's dancing feet

Penalty miss aside, I was impressed with xhaka. I can’t wait to see him tested in the premier league. I think his ability to dictate the tempo from deep is very important because nine of our midfielders can do that other than Santi.

The One and Only Great King 14

Poor Santi…

shokim

Xhaka sounds like a top boy! Can’t wait to see him pull on Arsenal’s red and white next season.

On another note, Alexis’s Chile have successfully defended the Copa America, in its centenary year via a penalty shootout. Congratulations! Now his holidays can begin. Messi missed his penalty, heh.

Make mine a Swiss miss

Yeah, well done to Alexis. Didn’t like that he had to go off with what seemed to be a muscle injury.
Big season needed from him, Xhaka and Mesut if we’re to stick it to the hordes next season.

Mpls

It looked like he had ice or a small boot on his ankle during the celebrations, but he was out there on his own feet and didn’t look like muscle wraps.

Not so sure ankle is better than muscle though..

Kosozil

Even the great Messi miss his penalty on this Copa America Final.

I seriously dun see what’s the problem with Xanka missing his penalty

Kosozil

*Xhaka

Third Plebeian

Messi missed a penalty tonight. I guess that means he’s crap!
