Hayden set for Newcastle move

According to the Evening Chronicle, Newcastle United are close to agreeing a deal for Arsenal’s Isaac Hayden.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who signed a contract extension at the Emirates two years ago, spent last season on loan at Hull City and looks set for a return to the Championship as Rafa Benitez continues to strengthen his squad. The Magpies have already signed four players since the transfer window opened nine days ago.

Hayden is an England youth international and has represented his country at under-16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 level. He was called-up to Gareth Southgate’s under-21 side in March only for injury to force him to miss the qualifier with Switzerland.

It seems like a logical move for Hayden who has so many players ahead of him in the midfield pecking order at Arsenal that he’s unlikely to get his Premier League break anytime soon.

We’re not sure how much we’ll get for him…we’ll hazard a guess that it’s not enough to fund a move for Lionel Messi.

A sturdy two poos, it looks like it’s happening.

He’ll make it but probably not to Arsenal level
A solid PL player in the future I imagine, good luck to him

Sell him for pennies but with a hefty sell-on clause

locksley444

Alternatively, buy-back clause is a great option that we somehow seem to underutilize. We really don’t need to profit from u21 player sales. Why not sell them for a price low enough to make them enticing despite the buy-back clause? Scenario A. Good player but too much competition and good YOUNG players already in side = Sell-on clause. Scenario B. Good player but currently not good enough for first team, however spots will open up in the next 2-4 years = Buyback clause. We could’ve held onto Afobe, and since Akpom is not scoring enough right now we can do… Read more »

Imo Afobe is the one we’re gonna end up regretting. We pushed him out for Sanogo FFS and he’s such a well rounded striker; capable of being a target man or mobile 9.

Still young at 23, he’s had a whirlwind 18 months and still has a goal every other game record for Bournemouth (I believe he’s gonna have a good up coming season).

Really should be our Kane.

We don’t want to become tossers like Real Madrid tho

‘The Clause’ is what’s important. Let the player develop elsewhere.

Best of luck hayden.
Show them the arsenal quality you possess!

rmpauden

I thought he looked like a promising CB against Southampton in the league cup, but even there he is down the pecking order. Good luck to him and maybe we will see him back someday like Mr Keown

Mr.Wood

I liked the cut of his jib!

Andy Mack

I’m not sure why he’d want to go to Newcastle at the moment. They have 3 strong DMs and 3 strong CBs plus a few utility defenders that can play both CB and DM.
For a youngster he did well in the experienced (and reasonably talented) Hull DM squad, but he really needs more game time and this sounds a bit like it could end up in a similar position to his time at Hull.
Maybe he’s been told some of the Toon squad are out the door…

Toon sam

3 strong cb’s? We only have 2 senior cbs in the squad and they are 21 and 22 – this lad will be coming in to be a starter id imagine or at least an important rotation player. As for dm, dont imagine he will be playing here but tiote will be off and anita has a question mark over his head.

Hopefully he is decent! Anyone see where and how he played for hull last year?

Andy Mack

Mbembe, Lascelles, Good and Drummet are all young CBs (as is Hayden) and I’d heard they we’re all good, but maybe my toon mate was embellishing the truth. Whilst Tiote, Anita and Colback are a strong set of DMs. As I said, maybe he’s been told some of them are leaving. Hayden is a solid DM who is also a very decent CB. He played exclusively at DM for Hull and would have played much more but Meyler, Diame, Livermore and Huddlestone are quite a strong set of MFs with DM ability and Meyler especially had a real run of… Read more »

How many of those guys you mentioned do you think would fancy playing in the Championship?

Andy Mack

They’ve lost a few already and some more may go, but most of what’s left are unlikely to have many options after last seasons showings.

FUCK. Having read that he’d captained arsenal at every level bar first team I pegged him to make it with us and maybe even become captain in the future. Would’ve been nice having an English , arsenal fan who’s had experienced being a captain leading us for a change. Oh well wish him the best of luck though.

Harish P

I almost completely agree with this. He’s a solid, no frills player. I really think even if it didn’t look like it that he’s someone that would have turned out to be incredibly useful for us. Such a calm and incredibly level headed footballer with solid leadership skills and he really knows how to turn on his defending, but with decent passing too.

I usually understand when we have to let go of a young player but I think this is a rare one which we won’t notice now but shall regret perhaps later, most likely unknowingly.

Bridgers69

The few times he was able to get into the Arsenal side I thought he looked like a promising player. Like so many he never really got the chance. I wish him well and hope it doesn’t come back to haunt us.

Mark

In this current era it seems even tougher for youth players to make it to the first team, though in the last two years we had Bellerin and Iwobi both get their chances and really do something with them, but only because of injuries, though Bellerin really just had Debuchy in front of him after Wenger sent Jenkinson on loan and wasn’t confident in Chambers our wide. Iwobi really only got his chances with so many injuries in the midfield and even with that not sure what his chances of playing much this year are with everyone back healthy at… Read more »

Goodluck to him

GoonerSteve

Why not a 2 year loan? Or a buy back clause, another player with great potential off he goes. Represented england at all levels but the top by 21, why cant we just give youth a chance, look what happens at other clubs when they’re forced too, john stones, rashford ect wish we would. Too much emphasis these days on winning every match you can’t give players valuable experience at the top without injuries to other players so you have to go out and spend rediculous money on players other clubs not in the same position gave a go!

shokim

Good luck to the lad, but can we sell him with a buy back clause?

Isaac and Chuks are two youngsters I’d been looking forward to do well at Arsenal. I hope both will come good some day.

Martin Finley

Good Luck to him, I imagine he got a solid career ahead of him.

Me So Hornsey

One thing I’ll never question is Wenger’s ability to sense if a young player has the attributes to make it.

I can’t think of a single young player who he’s let go who had gone on to prove his decision wrong. And yes, I include Harry Kane.

Stillmatic

I’m not a fond of that argument of “well they never went on to be great, so he was right”. There are many factors to a player becoming great; one being the quality of their environment such as quality of coaching and playing with quality players. Bellerin is a good case for that. Wasn’t really all that on his loan to Watford, and you could see he was very raw on his first outing for us. But there was an RB need and we kept him in the first team where he got high level coaching and playing with quality… Read more »
