Wilshere: I know I have to stay fit

Jack Wilshere is determined to prove the doubters wrong but says he knows that staying fit is the key to him having a successful season on loan at Bournemouth.

The 24 year old popped his Cherries cherry yesterday, coming on in the 63rd minute, and helping his new team to a 1-0 win over West Brom. He was happy to get some playing time under his belt – although he had been used similarly by Arsene Wenger is the Gunners previous two games – and said if people have reservations about him it should only be over his ability to play regularly.

Speaking after the game, Wilshere said, “If there is a question mark about me, I know that it’s my fitness. So I hope to get as many minutes in, prove everyone wrong and re-kick my career.

“I’m feeling better with each training session. The sessions are intense and I’m getting up to speed.”

He also said the style of play at Bournemouth was a significant part of why he decided to join the club.

“A big reason I came here was the manager and his philosophy to pass the ball and keep the ball” he said. “That’s want I want to do. He’s a great coach. I’ve been working here for 10 days. The training is hard and intense but that’s what I need now.

“It was a good win for us and it was good for me to come on and get my first minutes and get used to how the lads play.

“I spoke with the manager during the week and he’s got a plan for me so I was happy to be on the bench.”

So, one game down. On to the next. And the next. And the next etc etc.

Bob

Keep your head down Jack and come back stronger next season.

Jack

Okay Bob.

Any other advice?

Don’t go into one of the ‘therapy centres’ around Kings Cross when you have a slipped disk and genuinely want a massage. They offer therapy of a kind, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. The nice lady kept trying to go south of the equator, if you know what I mean, and while I’m a man of many faults, that’s not one of them. I honestly thought that sort of nonsense had long since stopped around there. I was wrong.

No shit, Sherlock

Bob Davis

Stay fit and come back as our next Cesc Fabregras.

RosickyLegend7

Without leaving us though ?

gooner1981

Well his DNA *is* Arsenal DNA, so no worries there!

Still think that with Cazorla the wrong side of 30 (though admittedly showing no signs of his powers waning yet), Jack is the natural heir to that deep midfield role in front of the defence, alongside Xhaka. I dearly hope that he comes back stronger.

DAMOBOT

Cazorla still got a few years in him plus his game is not based on physicality or speed but rather on ball control, vision and finesse. Jack has got a unique style as his game is based on movement aggression and penetration. Jack’s downfall has been the habit of keeping the ball till the last millisecond when running at speed which left him venerable for opposition tackles.

Love this guy to bits. True Gooner. Have a smashing season then stay with us for life helping us win titles.

RobM

Such a true gooner that he agitated for a loan move somewhere else?

He’s a typical product of the Eng-Gur-Lund mentality – too much of a spoilt bell-end to realise his potential. Sorry.

Ash Burton

Fair play to him. Brave move, many others wouldn’t have taken, so let’s hope he is gets the rub of the green he deserves and comes back to Arsenal ready to do the business for us !

And_Arsene_Said...

For Jack its all about avoiding injuries and staying fit. The rest is all there, talent, attitude, desire, love for Arsenal and managers/fans backing. Yes he will be back injuries permitting.

OneBeatOff

Those black stripes look all wrong. 😉

Robxxx

I’m not sure what he’s suggesting when he states he wants to ‘prove everyone wrong’? As long as he stays fit, everyone wants him at Arsenal…

RosickyLegend7

Probably talking about the online trolls who undeservedly abuse him. Nearly all fans rate him highly and want him to succeed.

Tim

Just a consideration but if Jack Wilshere does have a successful season, it asks 2 important questions.

1) What is it that we do at Arsenal that facilitates injuries?
2) if Eddie Howe can do it with Jack, can’t he do it with our whole squad?

Nacho nacho man!

Just stay fit Jack. We all know your ability!

FrankTheTank

Everyone know he has alot of ability and a world class top level, The fitness bit is the big question mark. Don’t matter if you got the ability of Messi or Ronaldo if you rarely are able to play. And it’s no good for a club to have alot of money tied up on players constantly in the sickbay. At some point you have to draw a line and let the player move on so you can invest the money elsewhere. But I hope Wilshere can manage to stay fit and come back with a vengeance like Van Persie only… Read more »

Jack has injury issues is a given. fairy tale supposition about Eddie Howe keeping him fit all season means he is great for Arsenal is frankly fantasy. Jack knows he needs a run of games again and he needs to demonstrate ability to stay fit. All sensible. Should he do so, it will be up to Wenger (and Jack) to see if he can fit back into the team. Meanwhile the 6 senior players available now, Ramsey is the only injury prone concern. But that does not mean we may not receive two knocks in this area which could be… Read more »

LSK Gunner

Great lad, hope he has better luck with injuries this season and comes back stronger.

Bank of friendship

?

Paul

As reported on here, the fact that Jack knows his fitness is an important factor in his career from this moment on, can only be a good thing moving forward!
Come on Jack!

Arsene

Look errr….Jack keeps the ball way too long, gets fouled all the time (because he keeps the ball too long) and runs funny (in a way that makes him injury prone) and is usually injured. He also has had it too “Hollywood” so loves having a swim with a fag or a night out with a fight, when he wants!
Get over it…he’s gone.
COYG!

Arsene

Yessss of course Ramsey is next in my sights…fucking “Hollywood”!
