Cech targets ‘significant win’ against United

Petr Cech says Arsenal must adapt their game if they’re to record a significant win over Manchester United on Saturday.

The Gunners travel to Old Trafford having recorded just three league wins there during the Premier League era; a stat that, combined with our winless run against Jose Mourinho sides, has even the most diehard Gooner fearing a tough afternoon.

Speaking to Arsenal Player about the importance of taking three points to maintain momentum at the top of the table, Cech reflected:

“It is another six-point game. We drew the match against Spurs and there is a little gap between us and Liverpool, so you want to make sure that you stay very close and that every time they drop points, you are ready to take advantage.

“With United, they are behind us, so to leave them [further] behind is one aim and the second thing is to stay near the top, within touching distance of everyone else.

“If United want to think about closing the gap and having a chance to fight for the title, they need the three points.

“It is a big game for both teams and they will try to give themselves a chance, and we have to be ready to adapt to their way of playing. As the match goes, you want to impose your game and control what is happening.

“It is always a big game, regardless of the positions of both teams in the table but this time I think it could be a really significant win for us and a really significant loss for them.”

Arsenal come into the game with injuries to Hector Bellerin, Santi Cazorla and Lucas Perez, while doubts remain over the participation of Alexis Sanchez.

I’m not even worried…we are going to punch those fuckers right in the mouth and Mourinho will be crying by halftime.

The more significant the win, the better. Let’s slaughter the fuckers. 8-0 will do nicely.

Cech makes an interesting point about them needing the win to make up ground on us and the other teams at the top of the table. I’m not sure Morinho will see the game in this way though- his team is underperforming and his players are unsettled, a loss at home could be very damaging so my guess is he’ll set up to play classic mourinhoesque low risk low reward football and live to fight another day. Having said that he does seem to have Wenger sussed in someway as they’re head to head record shows. I could see united… Read more »
