Wenger and Bellerin react to Ozil goal (inc video)

Arsene Wenger has hailed Mesut Ozil after the German’s sensational winning goal gave the Gunners a 3-2 victory over Ludogorets in the Champions League last night.

The playmaker bamboozled the keeper and two defenders before rolling the ball home in the 88th minute, and although the Arsenal manager felt that perhaps he’d overcomplicated things, paid credit to his ability.

“I would say the great players make the right decisions in the game situations they face,” he said. “They always make the optimal solution. To me it didn’t look for a while like the optimal solution, but when the ball was in the net I thought it was!

“You wanted him to take maybe his chance earlier but at the end he had enough skill to prove that he was right.”

Meanwhile, Hector Bellerin Tweeted:

And sure while we’re here, we might as well watch it again. And again. And again.

The referee was killing me yesterday. He was fooled so easily. Every single time one of our players went towards their players, they would fall over and he would blow up. Hearing that whistle every few seconds was driving me insane. When I saw the Elneny pass to Ozil for the goal, I was just waiting for the whistle to blow AGAIN for offside, but alas it was the only time in the second half he didn’t blow up and led to one of the best goals of the season so far!

mannyg

I agree! The Ludogorets players were milking every foul.

did you see their defender try to impede Giroud for our first goal, get bumped off, and then hold his face?Absolute joke.

Ozil is football; football is Ozil

Papas

Ozil IS Aristotle

O of the Arsenal

Nobody said anything about the slide.. So beautiful. So elegant.. love.. orgasmic..

alex

Aristozil

Dan Hunter

Mesut’s knees must be freezing after that power slide

SB

Ozil has risen to Wenger’s challenge to score more.

Can’t wait for the NLD.

SB

Anyone else finding Tots playing on CL weird? So used to them playing on Thursday, I still find it odd.

DC

Haha. Was literally thinking by myself yesterday during the 2nd half – “the players are looking knackered, thank god Sp*rs play on thursday”

Jozzer

Normal Thursday night service will resume soon.

Stringer Bell

His touch is as soft as silence. Charlie Nicholas. What a quote.

Gray Starkie

Fantastic goal by Mesut!! 🙂

Brizzle Gunner

Who needs Messi or Ronaldo,we’ve got Mesut. My bromance for this team knows no bounds

Gunner Paddy

That ball by Elneny though, first touch of the game and a lovely lofted assist which was then finished by perfection. Such air and grace to both pieces of some lovely technical football.
The ref was shocking, though probably not as contentious as the winning goal in the Atletico game last night. Wowza!

Chan

Best thing about the goal is that he makes it look so simple. Like something that you should do everytime you play football.

A Different George

It looked like the kind of goal you pretend to score when you are a kid. Like Maradona’s goal against England (the mazey one, not the handy one), goals like Ozil’s only happen in your head, not in real football.

Double98

Ozil is developing a full on Bergkamp complex. He is head and shoulders the best player in England at the moment (but no doubt the football writers will overlook him) This team is really manning up. Ox, Walcott, ozil, Sanchez, kos, cech, all having their best most productive seasons. xhaka, mustafi, holding and Lucas stepping right up to the plate and looking like they have been here for years. Ramsay back, welbeck to return Coq, elneny, iwobi Hector all building on last season. Collectively we are overcoming difficulties… that started in the Liverpool game when we fought back to 3-4… Read more »

I am not worried about November anymore.

Actually can’t wait to go to Manchester and show them what the beautiful game is all about: Arsenal 2016/2017.

Crystal ballz

I like how flummoxed the keeper looked. I’m sure he kept thinking “lawd, i will be in every youtube video now”

gazgoon

“Posterised”, I think, was the word coming into his head….

Possession

A mention for Giroud who steamed back to slide in and slip the ball to Elneny. Without that effort from him the breath taking WONDER GOAL from Ozil would not have happened.

Why not

The only reason i am reading the comments section in full view at work is too look for a mention for big ollie. He made that goal as much as elneny and ozil.

Marty

I agree Giroud tracked way way back to win the ball for Elneny.

Bobbyp

That touch over the keeper is something else. It’s so delightful. Just enough so the keeper cannot get it. Sometimes players in that situation crack it at the keeper or lift it over them too high giving the defender and chance to block, but Mesut……..just brilliant.

shokim

It was a very Bergkamp-esque goal by Mesut. What a touch of master class. Going to enjoy it again and again!

Barnsburyist

surprised M.Owen Esq didn’t accuse him of ‘Nicking’ that goal

Holyviper

Funny thing is, the keeper was out of the box! Which means if he does hand the ball away like he’s trying, it’d be a red for him.

David Hillier's luggage

But would have probably saved a point though, a crucial point in their battle with Basel for the Europa League place

ChrisM

It was beautifully efficient.

I also love that even in slow motion his dummy is soooo so late you could forget he was about to dummy it even after watching dozens of times.

Edu's nose

what the hell was the keeper doing trying to save the lob with his hands? didn’t he realize he was out of his area?

Red5

Blogs, you missed a great opportunity to slip a “bamb-ozil-led” in there.

It Is What It Is

Some of us have to nick a living…

Definition: a state of being akin to feeling like the biggest victim in existence. Often leading to immediate career and life re-assessment, early retirement and seclusion are highly probable.

In severe cases, can perpetuate a lifetime of waking and sleeping nightmares.

Can afflict multiple individuals simultaneously, however, no consolation can be found in such cases.

How can anyone in their right mind say this guy isn’t the best 10 in the world??? How can you compare a farmer like Coutinho to Ozil??? How??? Some one please tell me.
Sign him up. Give him 200k or whatever. Anyone else who asks for a 200k per week better be in his godly realm.

SwissArse

Ha, ha, Trez, Coutinho the farmer. Like.

Assistantref

Coutinho the farmer made me laugh out loud. What do you think he farms? Cucumbers, maybe?

Walcott's left footed curl

I still can’t believe he wasn’t offside. I still can’t believe he floored three player by being a fucking magic wizard. I still can’t believe Mesut Özil plays for Arsenal. It’s simply amazing.

TJ

Fuck each and every pundit that asks if he can do it in big games. He’s done it against Bayern, Chelsea, Man U, Tottenham etc

Foreign Gooner

Arsene Wenger, just give him whatever he wants. May be extra 5K for this goal, which Arseblog suggested you deduct when they didn’t make into Balon d’Or shorlist candidates.

Gooners' Goon

All I know is, if that was a certain Lionel Messi, the entire football world would be making sacrifices to his royal godliness right now.So much for The Arsenal not having world class players…so much for Mesut nicking a living at Arsenal. If all this guy is isn’t world class or is nicking a living then my world, all these pundits are even dumber than them spuds.

dr Strange

So Bergkamp.

AngelGooner

The flick reminded me of Bergkamp. The rest reminded me more of Messi.. The way he takes it on his left and then nudges it past 2 sliding tackles..

LiÖnel Bergkamp

TheSkins

Funny, Messi did an almost identical flick over Almunia to score one of the 4 he got against us that time.

remzy

Nicking a living? Then I’m sure Messr. Owen M. Esq. wished He nicked a living…………

Wes

TJ, remember they use to say the same thing about No.14 “He doesn’t tend to do it in big games” – won the World Cup

glitteringsea

Amazing goal. What composure. Still think it was more Kanu-esque than Bergkamp-esque. Reminiscent of the goal against Sp*rs when Kanu flicked one over his head combined with a bit of Okocha’s famous E. Frankfurt goal.

nl

keeper was clearly trying take a red card for the team to stop that goal. not even close

Assistantref

If he really was trying that he would have just pulled Ozil down. I thought that too at first but thinking about it more he must have forgot he wasnt in the box. Otherwise it just doesnt make sense.

AnonymousGun

He just panicked lol.

Adams Jnr

He’s Arsene Wenger’s man, he’s better than Zidane…

Cas

After Özil Signs da tin we should cast him in bronze with that celebration!!! I’m sure he will wow us some more but this right here…wowed the world!

Billy

Ozill will re-write arsenal history this season. What a goal!

Benzo Ferrari

What hacked me off was how clearly biased the English commentator was. He was Ludogorets’ biggest fan: called out seemingly every move their players made, by each players’ name, but was SILENT when Arsenal made gorgeous moves. Even talking about their head coach, his disappointment… what is this total attention to our opponents??

Paul

Commentators rarely tell us who has the ball. It drives me mad!

Samuel Stanley

The heart Giroud puts into his play is Crazy .. gotta love the lad .. he scored the second and won that ball with absolute heart in the end to pass on to elneny !! GUYS PLEASE remember this lad whenever u think of Ozil’s Goal .. would never had happened without that effort !

SwissArse

Agree, Samuel

Please, guys look at actions like these when you criticise Giroud for not being a top-games player.

Goonerever

Manure fans like Pogba>Ozil…Nearly jumped out of the window

gazgoon

Watched the goal again about 5 times this morning just to make sure I hadn’t dreamt it….There are still fashion outlets in the main street with clothing on the floor.

SwissArese

This was a wonder, wonder goal. It gives me endless joy, I had never before enjoyed a goal as much as this one. Only Messi and Ronaldo could do this. And Özil. C’mon Mesut, win us some titles now and on the way kill off the Spuds this Sunday.

Mustrum Ridcully, Unseen Academicals

The goal is a thing of beauty and should be displayed I an art gallery! The team seems to be gelling nicely but we need to be more focused at the start of the match on defence.

Qld reds

Love hearing the away fans roar when it goes in just as much as the goal itself. Spine tingling stuff that.

@1886_gunner

That’s a moment of magic,simply poetic!
