Gibbs and Oxlade-Chamberlain linked with January moves

The January transfer window opens in just a couple of days, and with Arsenal’s squad as full as it ever has been, speculation about players coming in is at an all time low.

Even lower than before the game of football was invented. However, there’s still some room for tittle-tattle, but it involves players going.

First up, Liverpool are mulling over a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to Sky Sources.

Sky Sources are very often a bloke on Twitter, so we don’t really put much weight into this one. It sounds very much like a player with 18 months left on his current deal using that fact to put a bit of pressure on Arsenal to offer new terms.

Having made a significant step forward this season in terms of productivity and fitness – with 6 goals and 6 assists to his name – the Ox is doing what Arsene Wenger has long hoped, so it would be a big surprise if we were to let him go now.

This one gets an 8 poo rating.

Meanwhile, Kieran Gibbs has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, as they’re in need of a left-back.

This is one we’d give more credence to in the summer, as it feels like this is a position we probably need to strengthen, but in January it’s unlikely to happen unless we go into the market and bring in a left-back ourselves.

It has been done before, Nacho Monreal arrived from Malaga in January 2013, but it feels like this is something we’ll look to address in the off-season.

As such, another 8 poos.

Feel free to add your own poo rating below on our world famous Poo-o-Meter, and leave your own comment below about how Liverpool/Palace will do an Andre Marriner and buy the wrong player re: Ox/Gibbs

Sturridge barely gets a game but they want Ox? Pull the other one

Dann Gunn

My old man always ask me the question would they get in the Chelsea/Utd/City Team?? And if we are being honest neither of them would. So why are they good enough for us? Gibbs is a mascot and The Ox still makes far too many mistakes.

Dan

a) they would get similar, if not more, game time for our rivals as they do for us
b) selling a squad player doesn’t make another better player of the same position magically appear in your side
c) every side has different strengths and weaknesses, and if any side followed this bizarre transfer plan, they would soon only have about 7 registered players left
d) almost every winning side is stronger than the sum of it’s parts

Jacob

There seems to be a constant need for the media to portray the Ox as unhappy, when for most of the time I can’t see why he would be. Every time he’s fit Wenger seems to play him, sometimes above others who have more form. I really didn’t understand a couple of weeks ago when Ian Wright used 5 minutes on match of the day to bemoan Wenger for subbing him. We’ve seen what happens when he plays too many minutes, he gets injured. Got to be a non story, if we are offering him decent money I can see… Read more »

Kwame Ampadu Down

I’d gladly have sold Gibbs last summer. He had 2 poor seasons where he was just going through the motions. Like Theo, he looks to have had a long look in the mirror in the summer & had a massive change in attitude. Long may it continue

Kwame Ampadu Down

Any of the 14 down voters care to explain why other than a general dogooderness ?

John C

Spoken like a true disciple of Arsene Wenger. Why would anyone want to leave Arsenal when you can pick up massive wages whilst making little effort and showing no improvement? Why would you want to leave when you have plenty of free time to pursue more important activities like designing your next tattoo, getting a fresh haircut and posting on social media? Why would you want to leave Arsenal when you win the most important prize in football every year, “The Arsene Wenger Champions League Participation Trophy”, where you get to compete, (note not beat) against the best sides in… Read more »

When I read your comment about Ox I thought you meant Gibbs.

Mpls

There is time after Nacho for Gibbs to be #1, and he’s playing more and more like he can be that. I could actually see them swapping roles before long.

It would be absolutely daft to sell either of them right now, and who would pay what Ox is worth in the winter window while he’s working out fitness issues?

I love how the media turned him being frustrated at the injury timing into dissatisfaction with playing time. It’s his
S fitness and form stopping him, nothing else.

Toure Motors

Would love to see the ox push on and have an even greater impact, he’s starting to apply his undoubted talent

wizardry

Sell Sanogo for 60 mill, and sign Emile Heskey with a 220,000£ per week.

Arsenal's Vardy

We should offer Ox a new contract with a clause that Liverpool can’t bid for him, just to piss them off.

Andre Marriner's Eyesight

Well they’ve done it to us- they’ve put a clause in Firmino’s new contract that they will listen to offers from any club if they meet the release clause listed in his contract unless they come from Arsenal. So, that should go into all our players contracts too just to annoy them. We should probably add one for City too!

Hsdh

Captain miss the joke right here ∆

Matt

15/10 poo’s for both!

Anonymarse

What are they smoking?

Lord Bendnter

I like Gibbs. I would very much like to see him as our number one right back

Anonymarse

The way he has been playing recently it could happen

Lord Bendnter

I see Monreal as ageing a bit and thought this season would be nice for Gibbs to play more often than hr usually does and then next season have him as starting left back. I think defensively he’s improved significantly. He has also become more consistent. Monreal is awesome but sometimes u feel he needs to be rested, and his pace sometimes can be of a concern.

Cliff Bastin

Number one right back? Gibbs is good but he’s no Bellerin. XD

Paul

I also like Gibbs.

Anonymarse

We know

Paul

That is good.

Anonymarse

I actually have a funny feeling the Ox one might happen. He will be worth more money if we offload him now.

We have Iwobi, Alexis, Lucas, Theo, Ramsey, Welbeck plus Ox who can all play wide.

vicksonthechest

Not to a direct rival. No. Money is a not a problem we’ve been told…

Cliff Bastin

Over the years, I think I’ve developed a numbness to all transfer news without the word “signs” in the title.

Anonymarse

More bullshit is written about our club than almost any other

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37975118

Benkamp

Thats because we often leave ourselves in a dire situation in at least two positions. We also have a knack of signing players that no one has heard of/no one believes has any years left in their career/ arent really good enough. That results in the media being able to suggest we could sign just about any one permanently or on loan.
(Sources- silvestre, sanogo, asano, perez, squillacci, wright, kallstrom, park, benayoun, henry (loan), bischoff, mendez, santos, jeffers….

Kotaiba

I think in arsenal , we need both players at this time

Goontang

Cant see why either of them would leave. Gibbs is still young and has years of experience. I thought he had a very decent game against west brom until going off injured.

Ox aint going anywhere with this seasons form..

Anonymarse

I can see why Ox might leave actually and why we would sell him now

We have 7 wide players including Alexis and Ramsey, and he will be worth more now than in the summer. They’re all good players too.

Not saying i want to see him go.

Sane

But he was started quite a few games before he got injured, so I see no reason why he would leave.

Anonymarse

It’s going to be difficult to keep everybody happy if they’re all fit, which they nearly all are.

Alexis always plays when fit so that leaves 2 forward positions. Looks like Giroud is staying too.

Brendan from NY

Id sell high on Ox. 6 goals and 6 assists include some garbage time plays we didnt need. Too many times has he let us down defensively, got injured, or blasted a cross 25 rows into the stands. With his speed, he could be so more. If he pressed opponents, and yet off the ball, he is usuallu walking around, disinterested. We can do better

Styles

Whilst you will get a ton of down thumbs for this post I do think you are right.

Ox has potential but is some way from achieving it and definitely has let us down at times.

He is probably at his most attractive right now in market terms so if a bid of £30 million or more came in I think we would have to consider it.

That said I’m not keen on him leaving.

Anonymarse

To be fair I think he’s starting to look a lot better this season but I can see why he might want to go.

If he is going to go we should try to get as much cash as possible.

Chamakh

No way we are letting them leave now when they are finally playing well. Gibbs might want to leave in the summer as he may have performed slightly better than Monreal this season but still finds himself on the bench for most matches. Monreal could improve if Alexis plays more on the LW as they had a solid partnership earlier there. Iwobi doesn’t really help either of our LB’s defensively.

Benkamp

Everyone wants everyone to press. All the time. Im confident if wenger told his ten outfield players to press vigorously for 90 minutes then we would be seeing that. He doesnt so they wont. Because they arent supposed to be. Im kind of surprised by arsenals issues with the press. I know we dont always have the strongest players etc etc. But pressing isnt violent conduct and rugby tackles, its reducing space and time and attemting to recover the ball asap. The biggest weakness of the press is the spaces left behind, and a team like ours should be able… Read more »

Both of these ‘moves’ sound like a load of bull from the papers, most of which are after the clicks that the premier league’s largest Internet fan base offers.
Non stories, one and all. The only move I could see happening in January is Debuchy out on loan, or perhaps a few youth team players out to the championship.

Espen

Full of poo for both players leaving. We them more than ever for slight rotation.

Toni

I feel we will keep both. But I think we might just let Wilshere go because of the options we have in central midfield. I might be wrong because good old Santi is getting injured too often and that might be a reason to keep Wilshere around as his successor.

Paul

Gibbs should not go anywhere. He’s very useful and very Arsenal. Imo.

goonero

No to both. Next piece of shit story please.

Arsepedant

This is pure clickbait, nothing more. They’re staying – which, IMO, is a very good thing.

OlivijeŽiru

Everyone is forgetting that Gibbs isn’t young anymore. He has been solid this season but not great. I still think Nacho have 2-3 years at Arsenal. I am not bothered with age like others. Gibbs constantly show us that he is not good enough for the first team. And for his sake I wouldn’t mind him to go to get regular football. I really didn’t get the hype last game. He had great runs, he looked a treat but then he made some bad decisions. Defensively he was also the worst of our back 4. I really don’t think age… Read more »

Klopp has come out and said it is bullshit

santori

Who invents these?

Not gonna happen.

The club will need to want to sell first regardless of whether Gibbs is tempted by better wages. Besides he’s injured again, who would want an injury prone LBack who is err…Injured. Might as well stick with us and rotate through.

Ox isn’t going anywhere as well.

Ridiculous rumours as per usual. Press trying t work overtime. Savage is already writing idiotic pieces that the title may as well be given to chelsea now.:D

Bazza_wicks

Gibbs had to play second fiddle to Monreal last season Monreal was consistent and gibbs was injured a lot when a cup game was on offer I don’t think there will be any buys in January unless a top top top player comes along usually never in January would like to see gibbs get a good run but his injured again not his fault nasty tackle but he can make it his position if he stays fit long enough

gunnerfan ov palace

These two also have competition from team players with gibbs and nacho, surely if they have had no new deals from the board then fresh players may arrive as the team have alot of players.
