Personally I would have liked to see Lucas and Welbeck starting.
On current form I’d agree, at the expense of Alexis and Walcott
Iwobi has been fantastic this season. Walcott has scored 14 goals and has the same goals per game ratio over his Arsenal career as Hazard does for Chelsea. Be positive.
Absolutely! Where’s the message to the players to say “you didn’t play well so you’re not picked”? Instead it’s “don’t worry, you’re in regardless”. Too easy on them.
That said, this is a good team on paper and I hope we win.
Interesting to see Wenger say that Gibbs is in based on tactics and his form in training.

Elneny just came back from AFCON after he did his calf mind you, Welbeck is feeling his way back in after a long term injury while he has looked good, it’s too soon to be starting in PL. Probably he wants to give Elneny a little bit of a rest, maybe save him for Bayern (cuz we could use him), so maybe he’ll bring on elneny in second half to give his legs some running in preperation for bayern Lucas is probably still carrying a bit of a knock. and he wants him to be fresh for bayern. The media have basically decided this season that Alexis is the golden boy who can do no wrong and is far too good for us. To give Ozil any kind of praise would undermine that point of view, despite the fact he’s actually been every bit as (I’d actually argue even more) important a player for us since the start of 2015. Can safely say I’ll be watching the game with Niall Quinn muted.
I can’t agree with this. Don’t get me wrong I like Ozil and think we are a better team with him. I know we have missed some of chances he has created. But he has scored 7 less goals and provided 3 less assists than Alexis and by any other midfielder or winger’s standards defensively he helps very little.
I appreciate he is the player he is defensively, but I would have expecting him to be involved in more goals than he has been this year
So much Alexis bashing after a couple of bad games. He has more sum of goals and assists than any other player in the league. His attitude might have stunk for the last few games but some fans don’t seem to be appreciate enough and judge a player’s season on their last couple of games
I don’t think the bashing has started but with tantrums over game time (albeit mini ones), contract negotiations dragging on, big money demands, a dip in form and possible lack of interest in the club he’s playing for I can see it kicking off soon.
He can walk into virtually any club in world. If he can get 200k more than he gets now playing in a team with serious Champions League ambitions why shouldn’t he consider his options. He gives his all in every game, even now, you can’t accuse him of lacking effort during the games or not caring or having his head turned especially if he genuinely seems annoyed whenever he isn’t playing or whenever we don’t win. I’m not into bashing players. I’m not into pandering to players if they don’t want to be with us either. If he wants to stay and continue to do great things for us then happy days. if his sights are set elsewhere then he’s welcome to leave. Good fucking riddance. We’ll manage.

It’s worth remembering that just 2 years ago at this point of the season, we were languishing in 6th place in the league after a defeat by the sp*ds at whl, and had a mere 42 points after 24 games. Alexis is such a true false 9 with the way he constantly drops deep and I think it works so well when we have wingers who think like strikers and look to get in behind. Walcott is one of these (so is welbz and lucas). Not Iwobi tho, he’s a creator first.

What wrong did Lucas commit against Wenger?
Reading the Ray Parlour book and he says how if you didn’t play well you’d be dropped and it made you fight for your place. And that was under Wenger as well as Graham. Shame this has changed. Given how mentality and attitude is being questioned, surely it’s time to reinstate this. At the moment there are players who know they are guaranteed a start however they perform.
