Report: Fenerbahce target €7 million deal for Ospina

David Ospina is once again being linked with a move to Turkey with Fenerbahce reportedly set to agree a €7 million move for the Colombian keeper.

The 28-year-old was linked with the Istanbul side back in June 2015 while neighbours Besiktas also publicly courted the player last summer.

Ospina is under contract at the Emirates until 2019 so Arsenal are under no pressure to sell, however, having played second fiddle to Petr Cech over the last two seasons it’s understood that he’s angling for a move to pastures new.

The Gunners signed Dave from French side Nice after his exploits at the World Cup in 2014 and, the odd mistake aside, he’s been relatively solid back-up.

Turkish publication Fanatik claims that the player could be on the verge of a four-year deal with Fenerbahce as they look for a long-term replacement for veteran Volkan Demirel.

We don’t doubt suggestions that Ospina might want to leave, however, as with most reports claiming an Arsenal player is heading to Turkey we’re taking it with a pinch of Salt Bae.

Mr November

He’s decent back up but shouldn’t be a starter, he wants to play so he should move on. Thanks and all the best, David.

Paul

Sczc is our man for next season.

santori

Szsc and Cech competing IMO.

Szsc looks more mature following loan spells. he has it to be number one.

Too Drunk To Be Offside

I still feel he is better than the usual washed up have been players that usually move to Turkey.

I agree he is not first choice, and to be fair Cech has had a more off than on season and perhaps Arsenal should look at the option of another keeper.

I have admittedly not followed Chesny on his loan but there is clear support for him to return.

I would actually not mind Arsenal taking a punt on Madrid’s Keylor Navas. If Madrid get De Gea, then Navas may become available.

Jan Oblak btw is worth breaking the bank for.

Martin

Total disagree with you about Cech. I think he has been excellent and has saved us on numerous occasions and is still one of the best. No need to buy another keeper as Sczesny has has had a brilliant season at Roma and hopefully will be brought back.

Greaves

I have no worries with Sczcezny coming back but while the 2 were here Ospina was the better keeper even though Sczc got more hype. So if he goes Sczc is at best our backup keeper. Therefore if we want a keeper to ‘compete’ with Cech then we need to do better. And in my honest opinion Cech on last year and this years form is not better than Ospina… on par.

Kwame Ampadu Down

In 14-15, yes Ospina was better but that was when Chesney was having a nightmare. The form Chesney showed prior to that (esp in 13-14) was much better than anything Ospina has shown in his time here.
And Chesney is a mouthpiece / character / moany old git…take your pic. This team needs those sort of players. Badly.

Demac

Yup chestknee is a gd vocal keeper to have. He brings a little bit of jens madness with him.

AlexNuggz

Would like to see him moved on and get Szcesney back to be honest… Another clean sheet for Roma at the weekend. I think he could usurp Cech if given the opportunity.

Heavenly Chapecoense

I want Szcesny back improved as a GK but not nicer. We need a Lehman type GK. Henry said, if he had done what Ramsey did against West Brom (not defending a set piece), Lehman wouhd have punched him.

Demac

Yes i would like a little punching for failing to defend n concentrate properly. Alexis n per shld b given the authority to punch. One for our attacking players n another for our defensive plyers.
Would have given gabriel the authority cos he has the looks.. but based on performance he might knock himself out before half time.
N lastly, i would give any playerd who brings a freaking pair of scissors to hector the right to punch too.

Paul

Bring Shtchezney back!

Beezus Faffoon

It’d be a shame to lose him as a back-up. He’s decently enough to be a starter somewhere, just not at Arsenal. Good luck to him if he does move on.

Red Fred

£7m seems a bit cheap for an international keeper.

Anthony

An international goalkeeper that plays less than 20 games a season.

Sure, he’ll get a run in the side with Cech out – who, incidentally I don’t think should be our first choice anymore – but realistically it’s difficult for us to ask for more seeing as he barely plays.

If he goes, good luck to him, I look forward to Szczesny’s return to cement his place as Number 1!

Holyviper

Any transfer for an Arsenal player tends to be a few million lesser than expected, and this is a Europe wide understanding for some reason. I don’t know why we don’t ever hear stuff like ‘Marseille want Giroud for 40 Million’, or ‘Bayern agree Bellerin for 45 Million’ or ‘Atletico ready to pay Arsenal 78 million for Alexis’ or even ‘Sevilla confirm transfer for Ospina for 16 million’. It’s like we JUST don’t know how to make a deal.

eddymc2

For all the stick many of our defensive players have gotten over the years (with exceptions made for the frightfully awful like Almunia), is it possibly the case that our system is particularly hard on DMs, defenders and goalkeepers? I think an ex-player has said as much, but I also think that ex-player was Silvestre.

eddymc2

Bringing this up because I’ve never thought Szczesny did too badly for us, bar the smoking thing, but certain people seem to hate him for merely existing.

I always felt that Szcz like Jack took his place in the first team for granted. I hope his Roman holiday has tempered him and he plays for us again.

canon 10000

Seriously… how hard is it to not lunge or pass the ball to a CB when he has two Manc players closing onto him? Xhaka is a wonderful passer and I love Coq’s snappy tackling but there is no excuse for the kind of silly mistakes they do. Neither of them can retain the ball when pressed, neither has the wits to own his spot on the field. Mustafi had to run out to head THAT ball because there was no one in the middle to do that…

Martin

What has this to do with Ospina possibly leaving ?

The stoat

I’ll even pay his air fair

Chinaman

Why is it that players are linked to us for exorbitant prices but when it comes to selling them its always peanut!!!

Mesut O\'Neill

You realize we paid £3m for him after he had a good World Cup. So we’re making a profit on someone who has been pretty dormant.

Trez

Ospina is one of the best shot stoppers around…however, he struggles with high balls and is one of the real reasons why he struggles more in the League than in the UCL.
I’d be sad if he leaves, but I don’t see him been first choice with us. He’s one of the best second choice goalkeepers in the league (if not the best), but I think Scz fits us more than he does.
Good luck to him though

santori

I thought Ospina did really well against City. 4 vital saves from shots at goal. That said, the match suited him. Against more direct opposition who prefer to pummel in aerial balls, he will struggle. Another player who did decent I thought was Gabriel…most clearances. Alexis was mixed. Most possession regained (11) and most possession lost (35) plus lost the ball unnecessarily in deep defense a number of times which we got away with. Mustafi got a goal and an assist. Several passes from deep did not work but one or two did and you could see him (too) eager… Read more »

Demac

Ospina is a gd option for us as proven at mancs. If he leaves make sure we bring back the legendary watchawk chestknee, tie him to a new 4 year contract which includes nicotine gum as part of his pay pack n let him properly compete with cech.

poly

I would hope to get a bit more money for him
