Wenger backs Bellerin to become one of the best

Hector Bellerin’s season has been a difficult one. He picked up an ankle injury in November but had to play through the pain at times for the team; he was knocked unconscious by Marcos Alonso at Stamford Bridge and idiots like Jamie Redknapp said the Chelsea man had been brave; and the 21 year old suffered a slump in form which saw him lose his place to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the Gunners moved to a back three.

Nevertheless, Arsene Wenger believes the Spaniard will show his quality and become one of the best full-backs in Europe.

Bellerin will return to the team today in place of the injured Oxlade-Chamberlain, and it’s a chance for him to remind people why he considered such an exciting prospect.

“He is a strong player mentally,” said the Arsenal manager. “I think he has gone through a difficult period but I am convinced he will come back.

“He will be one of the best full-backs in Europe for sure. He’s a player who has a fantastic mentality. He went through a difficult period when he came back from his ankle injury but I never questioned his attitude.

“He has great spirit.’

Arsenal need a win at Stoke for the first time since February 2010 if they’re to keep pressure on Liverpool and Man City for a top four finish.

A Bellerin cross for an Aaron Ramsey goal would be delicious. Let’s have it, Hector.

Pace, skill in abundance. Young, will improve.

Hope he retires with us and many trophies.

Potential to be the best. Control speed and intelligence are given.

Will get better and better.

I agree.

Surely your comment was slightly unnecessary given the thumbs up button available to you.

Only idiots are writing this lad off. Just another example of why too many twats have an opinion these days.

Opinions are like arseholes

Clock-End Mike

You mean everyone has one?

Indeed

He has the potential to be one of the top full backs in world football, no doubt. However, as we’ve seen since his initial break into the team, like Iwobi and so many others before him, he’s failed to push on and progress. That’s not to say he won’t, but as been said many times on the Arsecast, Arsene Wenger is no longer capable of developing players. I think so long as he remains manager, or if he were to move to another club, Bellerins progression will be slow at best.

Ozil\'s left foot

Like Iwobi? Are you suggesting he’s done? Wasted?

Mesut O\'Neill

He’ll have amble opportunities to play there next season seeing a son Alex will be in Liverpool.

I agree with Wenger but strong mentally does not apply to any of our players. I understand he is trying to boost the player’s confidence and does not have to tell the truth for that.

Dan Hunter

Can run but can’t cross to save his life. Needs big improvement

Two assists against Stoke today tell a differrent story.

Cliff Bastin

Will admit I was pretty excited about the Debuchy signing at the time and had no idea this lad would send his career into oblivion.

Own the wingback role son.

We call you when we need you, our heart’s on fire
You come to us, come to us wild and wired
Oh, you come to us, give us everything we need

Simply the best, better hair then all the rest.

Lord Bendtner

The only complaint I have against Bellerin is his hairstyle. Losing Bellerin would be the dumbest thing we could do this season. We have in our hands, the best potential future Spanish RB.

Jamie

Final ball is poor though….. needs to improve that part of his game drastically, especially in a 3-4-3 system

We have to be a bit more balanced with our critique on players. Many people simply go over board with praise on certain players and criticism on others. All players are going to go through patches. Even the ussually reliable Koscielny has made mistakes. The press want to paint Granit as a liability when in fact he has been an excellent buy. They won’t mention of course Koscielny in the first season with us was near disaster with red cards, own goals and penalties conceded. At the same time, whilst Holding is quality and we should do well to remember… Read more »
