Ramsey: We needed that

Aaron Ramsey says that yesterday’s 5-2 win over Everton was just the tonic the team required after last week’s defeat to Watford.

The Gunners had 30 attempts on goal (@7amkickoff stats here) and scored five times to ensure a beleaguered Everton’s miserable run continued and Ronald Koeman’s future as manager came under increased scrutiny.

Speaking after our first Premier League win on the road, he said, “We needed that, like you said it was our first away win of the season, we scored a few goals as well.

“Even though they’re not on the best run at the moment, it was always going to be quite a dangerous game because they needed a performance as well.

“It was important for us to match them from the beginning and we did that – full credit to the guys, we deserved that in the end.”

The Welshman, who netted the fourth goal, was also quick to praise the dynamic front three of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette.

“I think that with all the players we have in this squad we’re more than capable of producing performances,” he continued.

“With these guys they score goals, they create goals as well, so it was nice to have them back in the team and hopefully they can continue creating and scoring goals.”

Teams looks so better without Elneny

Forest Gooner

*Team

adgonner

Would it look much better with Wilshere in for Xhaka?

IamaGoober

I know this game was shown on Sky, not on BT, but where was Aaron Ramsey’s invite into the studio to lay into Everton because they bottled a one nil lead at home?

Santori

Everton lack balls a la Troy Deeney

Santori

No.

Granit for all his faults is I dispensable.

His long range passing helps release us early.

Rather Jack is a different player who can carry the ball through the middle, something we have missed over last 3 season’s without Santi.

In fact it would be more appropriate to consider playing Granit AND jack together.

Santori

Definitely. Elneny isn’t bad but he is really just a mediocre utility content to come off the bench. He adds nothing extra. We need better.

Midfield is either Granit/Ramsey imo or now maybe Coquelin/Jack or even Granit/Jack.

Until Santi can make a come back.

I’m finding the post match interviews more and more pointless. Win, lose or draw you already know what they’re going to say

Gooner49

I knew you was going to say that!!

Andy Mack

They always have been a waste of time and it’s the same with every team.
They’re all coached by PR teams about how to say positive stuff without being contentious.
It’s a necessity since the football media started making shit up and using player comments out of context so they can get a headline.
Obviously it still fails regularly but there’s much less for the hacks to use.

Isaiah Rankin

Everton lacked cojones

Sean

You and us both, Aaron.

Hopefully we can turn Swansea over convincingly as well. They’ve been a bit of a bogey team for us the past few seasons.

If Ramsey could be more clinical with the chances he gets and a bit better with some of his decision making, he could be a top class player.

Martin

He is a top class player and has been for years.

Cliff Bastin

Want him to push on and be a great for us but he has to curb his thought process of “I MAKE RUN NOW! I SHOOOOOT!” just a tiny bit. I also found that his passing on the counter is always slightly behind and the receiver has to check his run.

naija gunner

Which IMO is very poor for such a midfielder with good technique.

Zyrth

@cliff, exactly what you’ve said. I’ve been on this long enough and most of the time when I have to comment, it’s about Ramsey. Have always said he’s gonna be a top class player but I dread seeing him on the team sheet because he always acts like a target man (poor timing of his runs, gets up way too early for him to get marked) instead of a CM. Leaves his partner isolated and we all know Granit doesn’t have great ball control to spin past his marker and they usually crowd Xhaka knowing he doesn’t have any passing… Read more »

No, Ramsey has clear license to go forward as much as he does. Really we should be talking about our front 4, not front 3. Ramsey has always been an attacking player for Wenger during the past 3 seasons. He’s not been given that box to box role for a while now. Technically he’s one of our best and is essentially at Alexis and Mesuts level. He’s great, his career has just been stalled by repeated injuries and occasional loss of confidence. I don’t see any problem with the way he’s been playing. He gets I to great positions and… Read more »

Cliff Bastin

Okay but if you look at the replays of most of Ramsey’s shot attempts you’ll find that Xhaka is left all on his own in the middle and we all know how he is under pressure. Again this is okay against teams that just park the bus but having both Ramsey and Ozil with no defensive responsibilities against a team that plays counters or one that simply pressures Xhaka when Ramsey is not nearby is suicide.

SB Still

It’s going to be interesting to see how Wenger fits Wilshere in the league team.

Hope we play the Europa squad in the League cup games too. It has a fine mix of experience and youngsters, who all deserve playing time.

Andy Mack

If we get Div 1 or 2 teams in the draw (assuming we beat Norwich) then I’d guess we’ll play more youngsters in the TinPot Cup games.

Neil

Wilshere in for Xakha please. Granit seems to becoming a liability with that one decisive mistake he makes every match.

Santori

No.

Granit is very important releasing us early with his long balls.

Rather Jack is a different typevplayer who can carry the ball thoughts middle.

In fact they may complement each other.

I feel we have 3 possibilities at the moment

The established Granit/Ramsey

Or Granit/Jack

Or Coquelin/Jack

Ray parkour

We needed it ever so much because winning is nice and goals are also quite nice

hahahaha

I for one think we will miss Ramseys countless runs into the box once he’s hanged up the boots. You know pretty much every defender is terrified to play against Ramsey? He never gives them a break, and he goes back to help out in defense cause we all know he has it in his locker run all the way back. Ignore the haters Aaron

Santori

Funny how Ronald Koeman got the sack.

Not too long ago when he was touted by same media as an Arsene replacement along with the likes of Eddie Howe at Bournemouth Roberto Martinez with relegated Wigan etc.

Even announced football genius Klopp is getting the best out of the Ox and working owners at Liverpool sitting 3 points behind in 9th.

Kakembo

Like the Old Man said, a team is as good as its last game. Wonder where all the positive comments are coming from given what was written last time out after the Watford catapulation
