Ozil out, Iwobi comes in: Burnley v Arsenal team news

As expected it’s all change following the rotation that took place for Thursday’s Europa League game with Cologne.

The big news is the absence of Mesut Ozil from the squad. The Germany international has been replaced by Alex Iwobi who sits in attack alongside Alex Lacazette and Alexis.

It’s the only change from the starting XI that beat Sp*rs last week.

Here are the official line-ups for the 2pm kick off at Turf Moor.

Burnley: Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward, Gudmundsson, Cork, Hendrick, Defour, Brady, Barnes

Burnley subs: Wood, Vokes, Westwood, Long, Arfield, Bardsley, Lindegaard

__

Arsenal: Cech, Bellerin, Monreal, Mustafi, Koscielny, Kolasinac, Ramsey, Xhaka, Iwobi, Alexis, Lacazette

Arsenal subs: Ospina, Mertesacker, Coquelin, Wilshere, Maitland-Niles, Welbeck Giroud

Let’s hope our 3 Alex’s play smart today.

Ozil ill rather than injured acc to John Cross itk.

bidOnLard

He’s been ill quite a lot. Maybe needs some vitamins…

Gudang Bedil

Gutted not to have Ozil in the squad. I hope Iwobi can step up!

Goonerink

alex(is) passes to alex(iwobi) who knocks it on for Alex(laca) to score!

David C

Ozil must be injured if he’s not on the bench…

Giroud 88th min header for the 1-0 win, but I’m sure hoping it doesn’t take that long.

Could be a very boring game, hope we stay patient. You can’t let Burnley score first.

COYG!!!

David C

well I got the score right at least 🙂

Btw. John Cross tweeted that the team only just arrived (1.10pm). Hopefully nobody gets injured during a rather rushed warm up.

…Official Twitter account states “ozil is missing due to illness”.
Political illness? Tactical illness? Real illness?…
Whatever, COYG!!
(and bring on Feb asap in order to end this transfer masquarade!!)

bobbyp

“Political illness?” This really made me laugh. Top work.

yen

Guess he’s busy assisting Angela Merkel putting together a government.

A Person

Ozil is ill , he has gotten Barcelona virus , it is a very dangerous virus and can turn players into zombies.

Gunter the Gooner

Alex Hleb was the first person to come down with this virus

Daft Aider

Petit suffered this, a few years before then

Pardon

I seem to remember Vermalen getting a very bad case of it the Barca flu. He never fully recovered.

Badaab

Alex song found his diagnosis was terminal.

Would have hope for Wilshere to replace Ozil today. When will he get a start in the Prem Mr Wenger?

Russ

Currently sitting in a bar in India with arsenal on the big screen. Oh yes! COYG!

Joel

A bit of a shame that Ozil goes missing the game after he puts on his best performance in an Arsenal shirt. The real shame is Wengers continued faith in the very ordinary Iwobi.Another player who only occasionally offers anything going forward and virtually nothing defensively.I would have thought that Wilshire would have been a far better option but he doesn’t currently fit into Wenger’s current list of favourites.

Shambles

Can’t wait for the spectacular team that’ll come of iwobi and welbeck replacing ozil and sanchez in January.

It will be something to behold

Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea slip up.
Arsenal have an opportunity to gain an advantage.
78 minutes gone and one shot on goal.
Wenger couldn’t motivate if he tried…

phpguy

Jumped the gun there, didn’t you?

Love seeing a team that was flopping at every opportunity get hit with a soft penalty in injury time… 2 years in a row. Burnley are the new stoke
