Wenger wants Aubameyang to follow Henry’s Arsenal example

Arsene Wenger says that new boy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s playing style reminds him of Thierry Henry, but cautiously reminded people it’s a big comparison to make after just one game in red and white.

The Arsenal manager spoke about the club record signing ahead of Saturday’s North London derby with Sp*rs at Wembley, and was asked who, of all the strikers he’d managed, the 28 year was most similar to.

He cited Henry, but insisted, “It’s a bit too early to compare him to the best player ever who played here.

“He has played one game. But it’s a good example to follow. It is an ambitious statement but it is a good one.

“The best goalscorer ever in Arsenal’s history. It doesn’t mean he will score as many goals, but why not?

“Aubameyang has a tremendous quality of reception up front and quality of pace. It is a bit what we need.”

The Frenchman is hopeful that a week of full training will see the former Borussia Dortmund man more physically ready for the game, having struggled with illness before his debut against Everton.

“He will be a bit sharper on Saturday than he was last week,” he said.

“He came in on Tuesday and we still had to keep him out of training because he had still not recovered physically from his sickness.”

Aubameyang was convinced to come to Arsenal in part by ex-teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Wenger will hope his two new men can have a positive impact on what is essentially a must win game for his team tomorrow.

A goal against that lot at Wembley of all places… that thought has a dangerous knack of making one excited about the game tomorrow.

Ted

Hat trick against that lot will see him taking a giant step to getting up there with Henry

Gonzo gunner

He do well to score 229 goals

Everyone should follow the King’s example. He taught us all to strive to better ourselves. To forge a new paths. To strike terror in our opponents. No matter what we do, to seek excellence, and to write new and magnificent stories. It was a privilege to watch him play football for our great club.

Up the Arsenal.

Pedant

He also mentioned in the interview Auba’s focus and attitude which sound great.

Unlikely given his age to score as many as Thierry but he could be as big a player with Mkhi and Ozil setting him up to score.

Tony grayson

I think the author meant goals per season…at least I hope that’s what he meant! lol

Man Manny

Get in someone who will follow Sol Campbell’s example, and another who will follow Patrick Viera’s and the League is ours!

Arse City Blues

I find it hilarious that everyone keeps saying, H*rry K*ne is Sp*rs through and through, yet he was brought up a gooner, with pictures of him celebrating the invincible season in full arsenal kit. Why doesn’t this get talked about on BBC etc I wonder?

dace

Henry was not the best player.

Js85

It’s a close call but Bergkamp wins it for me.

lula

I wonder also how Weighty would have failed were he to have joined Arsenal earlier in his career.

lula

Thank you predictive text… I meant faired* not failed. Not sure I’ve ever heard Wright and failed in the same sentence.

Jelvis

I’m not sure he was ever fat!

jackbut

so he will be very sharp on saturday., so sharp the spurd defence will be cut to shred .. hehehe, i laugh in Jamaican

FlyfishScott

I have to disagree with Wenger. Henry isn’t the best to play at Arsenal. That honour goes to The Dutch Master

Thierry Bergkamp

I have to disagree. Bergkamp was the best footballer to play in the Premier League

GoonerGeoffers

Well…Bergkamp is the best to play at this club sir

lula

Henry wasn’t for me the best player we’ve had. But he was a phenomenon and he’s definitely up there. It’s a fair thing for the manager to do to temper expectations and take a bit of pressure off Aubameyang. But I’m sure he will handle things fine.

Robins Boost

Hope Auba scores a hat trick tonight, ends this season with 20 goals for us, and 40-50 goals per season for the next 3-4 seasons.
By the way thierry is good, but he’s nothing compared to Lord Bendtner, who comes in as thr 2nd best player in the wenger era. The best is, of course, eboue. No doubt. Have a good day guys!

jackbut

BENDTNER WAS DEFINITELY CONFIDENT HE WAS AHEAD

Iwobi\'s left foot first touch

Monreal to score first

But they are not the same.

World class stats…well we’ve seen that with Lacazette…and Falcao before.

Doesn’t translate.

We bought what’s expedient for Mslintat, not what’s best for the team.

All this nonsense about pace. When you are in traffic, pace means little.

For all the pace advertised on Lacazette, he looks as slow as Giroud.

Aubameyang may have some pace but it is hardly life changing as Henry.

Don’t talk to me about pace please.

Poor man’s Henry.
