Wilshere and Xhaka react to 3-1 win over AC Milan

Granit Xhaka and Jack Wilshere spoke to BT Sport after tonight’s 3-1 win over AC Milan saw us through to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Here’s what they had to say.

Good win, three in a week …

Wilshere: Yeah, I think we needed that. We set the level last week in Milan and we had a good defensive performance. We followed that up with a win in the league which everyone knows we needed and it was about getting the job done tonight and being professional.

We didn’t start great but it woke us up and we had enough in the end.

It was lively … livelier than you wanted …

Wilshere: Yeah, we like to get forward, we leave space and they have good technical player who can see spaces and find the holes. They made us work for it, but we’re happy we’re through and we’ll see who we get.

Three in midfield working well and a goal for Granit …

Xhaka: I’m happy when I score and I can help the team. As Jack said we won our last three games, that’s important for us. We have a lot of games now and we must keep it going.

Was the penalty debatable?

Wilshere: I haven’t seen it, if I’m honest. The defender was between him and me so I’ll ask him after but I haven’t seen it.

Xhaka: I didn’t see it, but maybe we’ll see now after the game!

Two wins over AC Milan, corner turned?

Wilshere: Yeah, I hope so. When we looked at the draw before, Milan are one of the better teams but we showed we can play against one of the top teams in Europe. We’ve got the draw tomorrow and we go again.

Back in the England squad …

Wilshere: Yeah, it’s an honour to play for my country, I’ve said it before. I never gave up on getting back in there.

Well taught by Wenger. They both did not see it

Insider9

Was about to say the same. Thank goodness the handbrake was off 🙂

Danny felt a little bit the touch.

TungorAdams

U know

Mayor McCheese

Look, I uh.

Anonymarse

I didn’t see it either

Georgeycharles

Well I saw it and still didn’t see anything.

Anonymarse

Even when they were playing it back from multiple angles in slow motion

7 is a magic number

yep, seeing this is tricky! I was stood in row 2 right in front of where he went down, needless to say the Milan players (and their fans in our section) went a bit ballistic! 😀 oh how we laughed

OdalGooner

Me neither.
The I-Dont-Give-A-Fuck-if-it-was-a-dive was blocking my view.

the job done the Arsenal way but done – now let’s hope for a good draw 🙂

Runzac

Both were excellent tonight.

Great team performance over the 2 games. good to see Danny among the goals and chambers getting a game. Xhaka looks so much better now he’s putting the effort into his defensive duties. Pity no game for a bit as the teams now starting to get it together.

Gereoma

This team is not getting it any together. Wilshere summed Wenger’s problem for the past 12 years up ‘we like to go forward leaving spaces and they have good technical players who can see the spaces and find the holes. Welby’s simulation put us back in the game, Milan would have equalized, fans you know this by experience. Fans praising Wenger after a win in ten is really the real mentality problem. Technique and indiscipline have been our bane not the quality of players as I have always insisted. Wenger’s training as a coach does not bother on technique, but… Read more »

He scored. Twice? Like maradona says, must have been hand of God.

Jack looks like my Uncle Ronny in that pic. He’s near 70..

A P

Have you ever seen Jack and Uncle Ronny in the same room together?

Now according to the same people who said we were not good enough for AC Milan because of their maverick passionate manager Gatusso, Milan are suddenly a ‘mid-table’ side.:D

santori

Penalty- I mean we suffered a streak of unfair penalty rulings against us, so why complain.

Official was right in front of the incident.

In any case, it was Danny taking it against supposedly the highly rated teenage keeper, the next Gigi Buffon.

I thought he did well to get us beck into it and we finally released the proverbial ‘hand brakes’.
