Lauren James Leaves Arsenal Women for Manchester United

Arsenal midfielder Lauren James has left the club to join the newly formed Manchester United Women’s team. The 16 year old made her Arsenal debut against Everton last October, becoming the second youngest player to ever appear for the club.

She will join the newly formed United team managed by ex-Arsenal centre half Casey Stoney. Lauren’s brother Reece captained Chelsea’s U-18s in the recent Youth Cup Final against Arsenal.

Lauren, who doesn’t turn 17 until September, is a promising young central midfield player. But with the likes of Jordan Nobbs, Kim Little, Dominique Janssen and Viki Schnaderbeck ahead of her, she has decided to leave to pursue first team football in the Women’s Championship.

Fun Gunner

Just seen this. This is so upsetting. Understandable on her part, but such a shame for us.

And_Unai_Said...

Gone to Man.U. eh…….probably had a disagreement on the way Arsenal FC should move forward. Didn’t match her ambitions @ age16. Just joking.

Heavenly Chapecoense

Hope she isn’t Lauren Mercenary Van Persie. Just joking. Certainly not her fault. At that age, Arsenal do release lot of male players. what goes around comes around.

Stillberto

Indeed, unreal talent for a 16 year old but it’s crowded in that Arsenal midfield, she’ll definitely play more there and they’ll be in the top flight next year no doubt.

Ok…

David Hillier's luggage

Still a bit miffed Johnny-come-lately Man Utd are riding off the wave of popularity in women football, garnering all kinds of publicity despite having never played a game, while a club like Donny Belles languishes in the regional third tier despite wining WSL2.

The truth is money talks a lot in Sport, and they have loads of it!

Super Joshi

All of us commenting you caveman! If it’s arsenal related I’m interested. I support the women just like the men

Mach

Wow she’s younger than I thought. Will we be missing a potential star Tim? But opportunities for regular first team playtime is tempting for any player, so good luck Lauren even if it’s with man*re. ?

Stillberto

She’s got real talent, yes. But United can offer her more games and they’ll definitely get promoted, so she’ll be in a good WSL team next year. It’s understandable.

Mach

The women’s league sure is heating up, can’t wait for the new season. Hoping the official WSL’s content will improve too. ?

Stillberto

We can but hope! They’ve demanded the clubs professionalise, but I think the WSL needs to step up to the same challenge.

Mesut O’Neill

No not my second favourite arsenal player named Lauren!!

Tas_Gunner

She’s 16? damn..she can probably beat me with one hand tied behind her back! ??
