New Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno has been handed the number 19 shirt on his first day of pre-season training with his new teammates.
Apparently, the number was chosen because he signed for the Gunners on the 19th June. That’s so beautifully random that we’re inclined to think someone just made it up.
Even though he didn’t travel to Russia, the German was granted an additional week off having been involved in his country’s pre-World Cup preparations.
We’ve already been treated to pictures of the former Bayer Leverkusen stopper working in the gym and with keeper coach Sal Bibbo.
In the absence of David Ospina, who’ll be off for a couple of weeks and has been tipped to leave, Leno will compete with Petr Cech, Matt Macey and Damian Martinez for game time in pre-season.
