Emery: Pierre will start Au-banging them in again soon

Unai Emery says he fully expects Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to end his…*double checks notes*…two game Premier League goal drought.

The Gabon international missed two glorious opportunities to get off the mark for the new season in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea and the Spaniard thinks his lead striker isn’t quite himself at the moment.

The £56 million January signing from Borussia Dortmund enjoyed a prolific start to life at the Emirates, netting 10 goals in 14 appearances last term and it’s this form that his coach expects him to rediscover.

“Last year, Aubameyang scored goals here and I have spoken with him many times and told him I have confidence in him,” Emery told the Evening Standard.

“He is going to find goals. The first six months for him here were good. He was scoring goals and because of that I am sure he will do the same this time.”

He added: “Aubameyang just needs to find the confidence, then he’ll score.

“The strikers need confidence. I know a lot of strikers and it’s all about how they feel. He’s the same.

“I’m sure that Auba, [Alexandre] Lacazette and Danny Welbeck will score more goals for us.

“We scored [against Chelsea] with [Alex] Iwobi and [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan, the ‘second line’ players, doing very well. If we all work together, the strikers will score goals.”

Here’s hoping those goals come tomorrow when we face West Ham in an early-season relegation six-pointer. ?

Makes sense.
Only slight disappointment is that it seems like Eddie and Nelson aren’t part of the first team plans. He speaks of the strikers and mentions Welbeck but no Eddie.

Arse City Blues

2 game drought! All strikers have off days. He will definitely be scoring a lot this season. Laca too I reckon.

Pedant

Auba is class, best since Henry.

‘RVP LOVER’, Really?

Homer

Putting aside the BS way he left, and dont get me wrong that was TOTAL BS, RVP was a brilliant footballer. The man could finish.

Loved me some Lucas Poldolski tho. That’s guys left boot … !

Faisal Narrage

I think anyone denying Van P’s greatness is in denial.
Hate the dutch skunk all you like, it doesn’t deny he was class and in truth my fav player of that era.

That Middlesbrough goal.

Berlingoon

But to be totally honest the real striker instinct in him has only developed very late in his Arsenal career. Always has been a top class footballer but has missed a lot of sitters in his early years. He had that last season when he won the golden boot, when he had Alex “Bergkamp” Song behind him. but before that he has never managed 20 goals a season if I remember correctly.

Thierry bergkamp

I don’t remember the Middlesbrough goal, but I do remember Charlton, Blackburn, Everton, Tottenham and loads more. The man was great even though hardly ever fully fit

Thierry bergkamp

It’s about time you guys lose the bitterness. RVP was top class and Auba at this moment has done nothing to deserve even being mentioned in a sentence with RVP.

Fancying a 4-1 win tomorrow!

4-0…Cech needs help with his confidence..

Berlingoon

Rather the back for than Cech, if you ask me. He played pretty well in the first two games, although everybody only seems to remember the own goal that wasn’t one.

Longbow

Agreed. Cech looks completely rejuvenated. It’s almost as if having a goalkeeping coach has really helped. Who would have thought?

Wolfgang

Sooner or later he has to score

Crash Fistfight

It might seem crazy, but I felt like Auba played himself out of form towards the end of preseason. I don’t think his misses against Chelsea were about the occasion, but rather this slight loss of form/confidence.

Hopefully he’ll get a tap-in against West Ham and he’ll be back to normal.

afan

don’t forget the miss against man city aswell

Rich

Certainly not worried about Aubameyang, and not in the least bit concerned about Emery’s 0 points from 6 either.

The squad is imbalanced and lacking in quality in certain areas, this isn’t Emery’s doing and any observant fan has known this for years.

Anyone expecting him to sort it out in 2months? Is living on another planet.

I’m 100% behind Unai Emery.

Arsenala Vista Baby

Bench Xhaka and replace with either Thor/Ramsey..

I solved it in 2 minutes! yay!

rambo

If only arsenal had hired you as the coach instead of Emery we might be 6 points from 6!

afan

he should be banging them In NOW, not soon

Jack

Ermmm he did score against Chelsea actually. Just a shame he was offside :\

Wolfgang

I believe Arsenal shd go direct ie less passing . Get the striker to
run at defenders. That will open up the defence.
Too much passing gives defenders time to group and less time and
space for the forwards to shoot.

santori

Don’t know why you are getting down votes.

Clearly we can benefit from going more direct.

Goonerink

Yeah, I wouldn’t scrap the pressing game he setup but a few more direct moves in a game wouldn’t go a miss.

Thankfully from what I’ve seen ermery looks like he is less strict than wenger on that front.

Trez

Anything less than 20 league goals barring injuries is a MAJOR disappointment for Aubamayeng. I’m expecting 25 – 30 goals from him.

Rich

He’ll have smashed that target by the end of January

Man Manny

When he gets off the mark, he’ll find it difficult to stop scoring. I still tip him to hit the high twenties in all competitions.

Man

Apologies for this not relating to the thread, but I’ve had an epiphany. Whatever Tony Adams says we should do, we shouldn’t. Love him. But.

adam

How many games without goals before it would be fair to give Laca a chance up-top at starting-11? (Not implying anything. Just a genuin question)

afan

lacca should be in the team NOW, auba has lost his confidence in front of goal, lacca will easily score more goals than auba

santori

Lets hope so. He hasn’t been up to par last two games even given level of opposition. I feel we need to play to Iwobi and Aubameyang quicker from the back rather than this tedious build up all the time. even the gaffer was getting somewhat exasperated. Its as if they took in his clear tactical instruction to play out of the back but stuck to it slavishly with no thought on being flexible to circumstance. We have 3 players in Granit(who was excellent during our brief comeback against Chelsea), Torreira and Guendouzi all of whom can put defense splitting… Read more »
