No new injuries but Kolasinac and Maitland-Niles making progress

Arsenal have no new injury issues heading into tomorrow night’s Europa League clash with FC Vorskla, but both Sead Kolasinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles appear to be ahead of schedule when it comes to their recovery.

The Bosnian is out with damaged knee ligaments, while the versatile Englishman has a small fracture in his tibia. In the latest update from the medical team on the official website, the two look as if they could be back a little sooner than expected.

On Kolasinac they say, “Left knee injury. Progressing well and now expected to return to full training in early October (initially aiming to return during the month of October).”

And on Maitland-Niles, “Small fracture to left fibula. Progressing well and now expected to return to full training in early October (initially aiming to return to training in November).”

The only other senior players out of action are captain Laurent Koscielny who is still making his way back from a ruptured Achilles tendon, and Carl Jenkinson who has a badly sprained career ankle.

Unai Emery is set to meet the press today, so we should get a better idea of how much he’s planning to rotate his team when we face the Ukrainian side at the Emirates tomorrow evening.

Updates here later.

Poor Carl Jenkinson, he should have retired after scoring that goal for us a few year short back

Goonerink

I’m sure when he Ford that will be his career highlight

Tas_Gunner

I won’t go that far.on his first season on loan at west ham he was probably among the top six RB in the premier league.Plenty clamoured for his return at that time.since then injuries continuously ravaged his career. Not his fault that the club he loves passionately offered him a ludicrous contract.

He is a true gunner and at the very least we should respect that.

Gutbukkit Deffrolla

AND… as a goalkeeper he has a 100% career record. Never let in a goal. Not many can claim that.

Let’s hope the medical staff are getting them back early and fully fit ie so they don’t break down again.

Both will be useful to have in the squad, particularly Kola to give Nacho a rest.

Kolasinac is very bad.we should loan him out somewhere till his contract runs out because don’t think anyone will buy him.If he stays his mediocrity will spread like cancer.Maybe sign Souare from Palace or Dumett from Newcastle? Both criminally underrated in my opinion and will be great bargains if we can strike any deal under 20m.

Tas_Gunner

Wai…wha…eh? Yeah,never mind.

Really interested to see how Kolasinic gets on. Love Nacho but I do think that position is somewhere we could do with an upgrade, and previously I’d been excited to see how Emery could improve Kolasinic. My concern is with the way he’s essentially asking his full backs to do the flanks completely alone, without any support from the ‘wingers’ (Auba and Ozil), if Bellerin is struggling on the right I really don’t see Kolasinic having the mobility to do it on the left, unless he’s magically grown a new engine over the summer.

Ram

Exactly. Can’t pass,Can’t defend, can’t cross.Won’t even cut it in the national league.

Gutbukkit Deffrolla

Are you a Derby County fan, by any chance?

DyGooner

Kola is not that good of a defender to be honest from what I’ve seen, he gets beat too easy with a change of direction he has to learn to shuffle his feet, still think we need a young reliable LB come January.

Charles

I don’t understand the tump downs. It’s obvious that defending is not one of his best qualities for now and so there’s room for greater improvement in that area. He’s good moving forward and around the opposition’s penalty area (that’s while it’s called wing backs now). But the old dog (Montreal) combines the two qualities of a wing back effectively well. Kolanic is lacking in defensive qualities and I hope that the new boss will polish that area soonest, and if he sees that deficiencies as a permanent part of him, then get a decent back up for Monreal (no… Read more »

That’s just downright rude

Tas_Gunner

Really? you are saying that about a young prospect who really shone last season and is one of our own?

Please understand that “afan” is a troll, not a genuine Arsenal supporter whose opinions you might disagree with.

You’re clearly not afan

arsepedant

You’re right, he’s not a fan, he’s a troll from some other club who comes on here just to spread discord and anger. I’m sure the only reason he hasn’t been banned is because there’s an almost morbid fascination in seeing just how stupid his next comment is going to be. It’s sort of like how you can’t take your eyes off a bad car crash, no matter how hard you try not to look at it.

Christopher Wreh

Good to hear both are on the mend. Fixtures always come thick and fast late Autumn/early Winter and the more bodies we have the better.

Plus I really rate Maitland-Niles and like watching the lad play.
