Auba and Laca reflect on the Fulham goal-fest

Alex Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang both helped themselves to a brace as Arsenal overcame Fulham 5-1 at Craven Cottage to lift Unai Emery’s Gunners to third in the Premier League.

After the game the two strikers faced the BT Sport cameras. Here’s what they had to say…

On a near perfect performance…

AL: No, it was hard, even if there is a big score. For us, it was hard to start but we scored many goals and we were compact. We won and that’s perfect

On coming off the bench to make an impact…

PEA: Yes, we did. We played very well. We knew that Fulham play good football and they play on the counter but the team played well. I came in and I knew I had to make the difference and I did it, so it’s good.

On Fulham’s style helping Arsenal…

AL: Yeah, but the coach told us we can win today if we’re efficient and that there would be a lot of chances. I knew before the game Auba would come on and score some goals. He did it and everybody is happy.

On how far Arsenal can go this season…

PEA: We have to keep the mentality, we have a great team spirit. As you can see on the pitch, we’re playing well, so we’ll try to keep focused and continue to win games.

On neither of them scoring the best goal of the game…

AL: No! The best thing is to score, after we don’t care about the best goal.

Love the partnership between these 2. Even with Auba on the bench, Lacazette scores and goes to him to celebrate. Team spirit is great at this moment and long may it continue!

Really good to see how much these two seem to like each other, and especially to see Lacazette run over to Auba after scoring his first goal and Auba being genuinely happy for him. Managing the playing time of two strikers this good would be a lot trickier if they didn’t get on so well.

Two great players, they are great mates. Looking forward to them continuing their goals and assists.

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

There’s such a great respect in the squad at present, bollox to what Veratti said about Unai, he seems to be ideal for this team. In the past we’ve struggled to house the egos of competing talents often resulting in poorly managed feuds for starting roles (Lehmann/Almunia, Sagna/Eboue, Adebayor/RVP etc), it usually resulted in one soon leaving, but the other still being irked by the situation and either having a poor attitude or leaving soon after the other, or both. But at present there’s good competition in positions, and there’s plenty of respect towards each others’ challenges (Cech/Leno, Bellerin/Lichtsteiner, Lacazette/Aubameyang… Read more »

We started with the right choices. Fulham were robust first half and we needed to work hard. Welbeck was a good choice in terms of partnering Laca higher up in (dare I say it) a 4-4-2 to hold the ball and apply pressure to their susceptable backline. Auba would have been less useful then as he needs space to operate more efficiently. Bringing him on second half (eventually a 4-4-1-1 with Ramsey behind) with them winded, made for good pragmatic choice from the gaffer. Ditto the choice of Iwobi even after mid week involvement. He was clearly tired second half… Read more »

What Arsenal needs now is a midfielder that can carry the ball himself from defence to attack. Something Naby Keita does for Liverpool, and what Santi Cazorla used to do for us(God bless his soul). Dare I ask for an Isco, if not maybe a Tanguy Ndombele could be that difference in midfield.

Loved hearing our fans sing there hearts out especially the the Torriera song!
