VIDEO: Nelson scores yet again for Hoffenheim

It’s starting to look like we’ve got one hell of a player on our hands in Reiss Nelson.

The 18-year-old took his tally for the season to five goals in six games for Hoffenheim, this time finding the top corner with a brilliant curling effort from the edge of the box to give his loan side the lead against Bayer Leverkusen.

The England under-21 international broke the deadlock on 19 minutes from a well-worked short corner routine as Julian Nagelsmann’s side recorded an impressive 4-1 away at Bernd Leno’s old side.

According to the BBC, only one other foreign teenager has scored more goals in the Bundesliga in a single season; that was Ousmane Dembele who netted six times for Borussia Dortmund in 2016/17 before he sealed a mega move to Barcelona.

Hoffenheim’s win sees them climb to 7th in the Bundesliga table just one point adrift of the Champions League places. Elsewhere ex-Gunner Serge Gnabry scored for Bayern as they drew 1-1 with Freiburg.

We’ll be putting him up on a column soon.

I guess all your attention was on Liverpool, Andrew II. This is old news in the world of the internet :(. That said, I can’t wait for him to come back especially as we actually need a direct pacy winger

Nelson on the right, Sancho on the left, Smith-Rowe at No10 with Nketiah at No9

We will have to get him back at this rate

They won’t be pleased when we ask for him back in January to assist with the title push.

I know you’re kidding, but a lot of people are now requesting for a Jan return.
Personally I hope he stays for the whole season. Just look at what consistent game time has done for him, imagine where he’ll be if he stays there all season then returns in the summer.

Even better, it’s not like our RM is exactly locked in, with Mkhi clearly there to Ben deposed (both due to age and his own performance consistency).

He’s the winger we’ve been looking for.

I think we’ll see a fair bit of Mkhitaryan at least until January. Emery was saying in his press conference yesterday that Iwobi is more suited to the left than the right. Aubameyang isn’t a left sided forward, but he’s more suited to the left than the right when played wide. Ozil now looks like he’s going to play centrally. This then leaves, Welbeck, Micky, Niles and possibly Rambo fighting it out for a spot on the right. I think Welbz+Rambo will be used sparingly with us hoping to get a few quid in January. I’d be surprised to see… Read more »

I am sadly unable to watch the clip. Same with the previous ones that have been posted. Is it because I don’t live in the UK (I live in Finland)? Since it seems to be playing fine for others, I mean.

Still, happy to see him progressing so well in Germany. 🙂 We have a real player on our hands here, and I hope he can continue to grow once he comes back as well.

Who is this Nelson sensation that I keep hearing about, who’s the boy who can beat the up whole neighbourhood, Nelson!, who’s the guy that decides if you live or die, Nelson!

Goonerest Gooner

The only way I could love this kid even more is if he started celebrating goals by pointing at the camera and going “Ha.Ha”

He was always special, but didn’t really show it last season. Admittedly, he was played out of position and his best performance for us was at Utd where he played on the wing. This season he has really shown why he was so raved about in the development sides. Eddie is a similarly talented player, his development is being put at risk with all the lack of game time at senior level or even the lack of a loan deal. Eddie, just like Reid’s, has shown that he is too good for U/23 football. I think extending Nelson’s loan by… Read more »

What a goal!

So glad we signed him up before he left

Yet the press and Southgate prefer to big up Sancho. We could have done with Nelson in the squad IMO. Sure this loan will be great for his development but we are missing another player like Iwobi who can take on and engage players on their own particularly from wide areas. Yesterday against Liverpool, we had a lot of space out wide as they tried to stay compact and contain us in the middle (in no part thanks to Granit’s superb display playing the ball forward quickly) Iwobi came on and had an impact bc much like Alexis, he is… Read more »

Have you watched Sancho play? My point is he’s not being bigged up, he is that good. Reiss can develop to be better though, both were always trying to be the better player at youth level despite everything. They were really close because they had an identical style of play. Sancho is ahead of Reiss in terms of development at the moment though

Alex

No pressure, Reiss.

rosicky4real

Am salivating at the prospect of having iwobi and Nelson on the wings next season. hoooolllaaaalllaaaa……

Nameless_Gunner

We have to really chill.. it is good that he’s having a positive loan and he is scoring regularly.. He should be really allowed to complete this season there, get regular play time.. Important step in his football education.. He’s really a kid and should be injected into PL that way..

Hope all this hype and attention doesn’t affect him mentally!

There’s lot of focus on his goals but anyone watching bundesliga, can u give us an update on his game play? And his ability to impact? Pls do..

Obama Young

All we are saying, is give Reiss a chance!

Granit(e) Hard!

The boy is definitely a special talent and thank heavens we got this lad signed up before we sent him on loan?…i cant imagine what would be happening if he wasnt?, especially with our friends, the ‘kidnappers’ bayern, in the same league and of course, the ‘DNA thieves’, barca, keeping their thieving beady eyes on him? Well, newsflash…you can all eat your heart out??

Kyza

Reese on the right… Xavier Amechi on the left…. Eddie central! Our future forward line looks all types of exciting not to mention Emile playing behind them!!! ????
