Arsenal got back to winning ways with a 3-1 defeat of Burnley at the Emirates this afternoon. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice, and although the visitors pulled one back, Alex Iwobi’s late strike clinched the three points.

Why do these small teams all have such c*nts playing for them?
Sp*rs have Alli, Burnley have Barnes, etc…

Bob

And in a few years Burnley will probably have both of them

Because PL culture and officiating is unfortunately still such that if you can’t afford good players, having a few lousy players who are c*nts will help you win more than a squad of lousy players who aren’t c*nts

What happened to sokratis’s rating? Or is it just my mobile not showing it? Anyway, I think we are starting to see how this team could shape up but injuries are not helping at the moment!!!

Sorry for being pedantic but I think the description under Iwobi is wrong. We lost against Chelsea, didn’t we?

10/10 to see Sean Dyche so pissed off at the end, I can imagine him seething over this loss with best mate Tony Pulis. How they got away with only 5 yellow cards – at least weve got a couple of players willing to give as good as they get (loved Papa’s wrestle with some cunt on the touchline).

I thought Elneny was better than Guendouzi today. Thought Guendouzi gave the ball away cheaply too often and slowed things down at times. Has huge potential and a big future but thought he was below par today. Sokratis outstanding and how Barnes wasn’t sent off is beyond me….someone wants to get Mr Friend a set of balls for Christmas…the bollockless twat lacked the stones to send that limbering shite off. Nice finish from Iwobi too….good composure

hesgotyellowbootson
hesgotyellowbootson

I didn’t think Elneny was too bad either (except when he got caught out), he’s a tidy player. I felt bad for him because it seemed like a lot of people behind me in the east stand were moaning and groaning every time he was on the ball and giving him a fair bit of abuse. Think guendouzi has definitely got potential too but maybe he needs a bit of a rest

Nedim

Must be the same haircut because that’s excatly what Elneny did. Sold some balls in very dangerous areas which opened up counters for Burnley. Sorry mate you got this one wrong

scott rice

Don’t forget Elneny sorted out Ozil’s predictably soft attempt at a tackle on the edge of our box. I thought Elneny did well. He was strong enough to stop Burnley taking advantage on this occasion and at the same time he did a tidy pass to Guendouzi in the move that led to our second goal.

This is what should be expected of Ozil,a proper 7/10 performance. He wasn’t great, he wasn’t bad, he was just good and this should be what we consider a good game, not that miracle performance against Leicester where everything came off for him. If you expect the Leicester performance every week, he will forever be a disappointment to you.

A Different George
A Different George

I agree that we can’t expect Leicester every week, but Ozil was much better today than just “good.” He was good most of the time, with periods of brilliance. He made the whole attack more coherent–Kolasinac’s runs threatened results, Lacazette was able to combine with his friend Aubameyang, everything comes together. He changes the way defenders have to play against our attackers because of the threat he poses.

And that pass to Kolasinac for Auba’s first, and the saunter into the box to set up Auba on his 2nd, class.

Would love to have heard what Emery said to Dyche. Maybe something like “your team plays as ugly as you are”. (Anyway, tried to spare the really rude ones I was thinking of.)

Love this win, but the return match may turn out to be a real slugfest.

Will never forget the red card and 7-match ban Barnes received a few years ago for deliberately tripping a referee. Out of sheer petulance/stupidity/thuggishness.

I think Ozil did better than a 7.5. He ran (not jogged) a lot today and was really good going forward. Being given a free roaming role brings out his best. Hope it sustains like this.

Before today I did no opinion of Burnley. Now I know they are a bunch of c**ts
Sent out there to do a job on Arsenal by kicking us off the park. I’m pleased we don’t take that shit anymore. But to see Dyche whinging, claims of diving and deserved ‘something from the game’ turns my stomach. Especially when the narrative is supported by idiots at Sky.
Hope Burnley get relegated

Interesting to see how upset Lacazette was when taken off. I know he has to be frustrated not playing very much and I think he deserves to be in the lineup with Auba as he was today.

Thought Torriera was sent on to pick up a deliberate yellow so that he can have a nice Christmas off and then be ready for Liverpool. If we risk playing him against B&H Albion and he gets a yellow there, I can’t imagine us playing without him against pool. Also, a few negative comments against Guendouzi, remember he is only 19 and better things to come. Shout out to Papa who is proving ealry season crirics wrong. Hmm how many times did xhaka give the ball away in bad areas though? 4 or 5 no? Cork ran the midfield but tired luckily, guendouzi loooked better after his yellow, not sure why elneny went off and he didn’t but he improved in the last half hr, toreirra looked a bit off the pace but eventually got in the groove, full backs were awesome today, ainsley reminds me of a young Kolo, so much composure.

I was really impressed with AMN’s performance today. Made a point of watching him for a prolonged period of time at the game. His discipline, speed on the ball and recovery runs were welcome. Clive over on Arsenal vision had it right, we may have our James Milner; and I’m okay with that

Santori
Santori

Gritty performance today.

We dropped second half after our second goal and some very iffy moments against a team trying to unsettle us with obvious rough house tactics not dealt with sufficiently by the Ref.

Critical win to get back on track and stay in touch with the chase for CL spot.

1) Leno – Came out several times decisively to claim the ball. They press us high so he went long on goal kicks several times but felt we were just playing the ball back to them bc of this and we may have had to work our way out of the back instead.

2) AMN – This is probably his best chance to carve a spot in the team on his more natural side. Several good moments going forward , several mistakes getting passed in defense. Put himself in line with some vital challenges, one good short control pass to Ozil to open space up for the goal. Put himself about. Its a learning experience for him and anyone comparing him to Bellerin at the moment is surely daft. What’s great about him is he is (like (Holding) unfazed and he has good recovery pace to boot.

3) Sokratis – One great effort to fight for the ball which was going out to a throw in to them otherwise and one great last ditch intervention when the ball threated to trickle to them in the box (called as offside eventually)

But a bit too aggressive at times. One aerial duel lost in first half near the centre of the pitch which led to a big opportunity fortunately squandered by poor talent. Had that been Mustafi certain people would be having a moan about discipline and needless/mindless attempt too high up exposing us.

Also whilst we should laud his fight, this isn’t Pankration and on another day with another ref, we could have been guiled by Barnes and punished with a red or a penalty.

In the end Unai had to call him over to calm him down. Has to remember we are short in options at Cback at the moment. He might fancy himself the Greek oracle but not clever.

4) Monreal – OK but again worryingly off with a niggle (or perhaps it was purely tactical). The Cbacks in our back4 were being highly pressured by two players (Barnes obviously appointed by the pillock Dyche to make a nuisance of himself)

I thought we struggled first half until we switched to back 3 for a bit more security. Otherwise on one on ones with Sokratis in particular, if he got it wrong (which he did once or twice), we were immediately exposed since Monreal was engaged marking the other offensive player.

5) Kolasinac – For me, joint MOTM with Auba or Ozil. Made a SUBSTANTIAL impact today.

Remember those people who did not give him a chance and moaned about him not being good enough.

AGAIN in the flat back 4, he was able to better balance defensive and attacking side today. Going forward, his sublime touch on the byline cutting back the equally gorgeous pass from Ozil set Auba for the superb finish to open proceedings.

Constantly involved in our best moves going forward, the second goal also coming from a break set off through him by Guendouzi. Set up a dangerous opportunity late on when Iwobi’s effort to get by his man fell fortuitously to the Bosnian but unfortunately neither Auba nor Ozil alert enough to gamble the extra yard in.

That said, fortunate to not concede a needless ‘potential’ soft penalty when he shoulder barged their player off the ball late second half. I suppose the only thing to be said is they did the same to Ozil and the Ref did not award the foul so he tied his own hands in that respect but still risky.

Otherwise the way he stands up to (say Barnes) and asserts some balls into our team in matches like this a welcome sight.

6) Granit – A bit uncomfortable to see him in the deep lying mid position first half. Pulled back into defense thereafter with Monreal’s departure. Think he did OK again in unfamiliar territory filling in.

Part of the Swiss sandwich for the Greek Centre.

BUT consequence of him dropping to defense is we lost a bit of power in midfield with then only Elneny and Guendouzi ahead.

7) Elneny – I felt we should play him at some stage to relief Torreira and/or Granit.

Played him today but clearly an average player who was fleeced off the ball several occasions and who was unable to stamp better authority for us when Granit dropped deeper.

Still an asset we have to rotate and use until we can get better. But struggled today although not want for trying and his attempt to recover from his mistake at very least led to Guendouzi instigating the break for the second.

8) Guendouzi – Has to learn not to go to deck so easily in these kinds of games. If we don;t get a sympathetic ref, it is to no advantage. Plus was too honest when Barnes placed his foot on his tummy. Could have sent the twat off if he graduated from the Portugese school of hard diving (Don’t know what Dyche was going on about, we are poor divers)

Great pass to set off the second goal.In the war as always. BUT we missed a bit of power with Elneny-GUendouzi in the middle without Granit.

9) Ozil – Had a great game. Its one of those games the pundits would charge him for cowering away from or shriveling into a petulant sulk.

BUT he stepped up as Kapitan today with two great assists and he kept in there fighting to the end.

This is the Ozil we need AND rankly as I’ve said many times, a better asset to have than have not.

His salary will be a predicament in any case for a move so frankly, if all things equal, with 3 players in Ramsey, Ozil and Mhki offering similar function, rather the Welshman and Ozil.

10) Lacazette – Great movement and work rate today by Laca constantly dropping deep to collect or wide to work the wings for a cross. He did not materialise a goal today which I’m sure was part of the frustration shown (a good thing ) when he was brought off for a tactical switch with Iwobi but contributed plenty particularly to the work of Ozil and Auba.

11) Auba – More like it if he wants to earn his “world class” moniker.

Top of the charts ahead of Salah with today’s brace. Much better finishing which we will need from him, particularly the second.

Great relation with Lacazette. I think we have seen in recent months Unai adopting a triangle with Auba up top and two supporting players in Iwobi and Mhki when in back 4 and an inverted triangle with Auba and Laca with a playmaker (in Ozil, Ramsey or Mhki) supporting when in back 3.

Today he starts with an inverted triangle supported by Ozil but with a back 4 initially.

Auba has been starting in the lone striker role prob bc of his proficiency in front of goal at the moment but no reason to suggest at some stage, Laca is also an option.

12) Lichsteiner – Good to see him back to form the Swiss sandwich in a back 3 with Granit on other side.

OK today, maybe might have done slightly better for their goal but in general kept an eye on AMN when the younger player made positionally slip ups.

13) Iwobi – Came on to protect the left side (Granit) and also stretch the game wide. Wasn’t terribly effective but came up eventually with the third goal which was well taken and to me on side.

14) Torreira – Rightly rested and protected but we clearly missed his ferreting in midfield particularly when Granit was withdrawn deeper.

BUT not a great performance. Did not offer enough shielding and should have cleared the ball in our box which in the end was fortuitously scrambled back wide and led to their goal.

Gaffer – He needed to keep the team calm and collected in this situation. Tension obviously palpable with the Emirates again going nervy, plenty of intimidation and niggly fouls but tweaked us to adapt to their pressure points and eventually saw us across the line for a vital 3 point.

It’s so fun to point and laugh at Sean Dyche. The only problem is it’s too easy…his tie is always 3 inches too short which is like a 25% error, given his body height.

Loved that we started auba, laca and ozil up front, thought they worked well together. Got a bit of a man crush on papa, he’s just no fuss. And how good has kolasinac been lately! Would have liked to see Ramsey get a run at some stage too, but all in all solid enough performance. 3 points against Brighton and I think we can definitely get at least a point against liverpool!

Worried about Monreal. The G.O.A.T was superb in calming our defence and making crucial interventions before he went off injured. Should we dig into the transfer market? Also, the number of ref decisions going against us this season is unusually high!
