Danielle van de Donk Signs New Arsenal Contract

Arsenal Women forward Danielle van de Donk has signed a new contract with the club. ‘DvD’ only inked new terms last summer, as did Katie McCabe, but both have been rewarded with new deals in light of their excellent form.

The Dutch forward has 10 goals in the WSL this season, stepping up her game in the absence of Jordan Nobbs. van de Donk has become a vital cog in the Arsenal midfield in support of compatriot Vivianne Miedema. The news follows on from Monday’s confirmation that Irish international Katie McCabe has signed a new deal.

“We are absolutely delighted that Danielle has committed her future with us,” manager Joe Montemurro told Arsenal.com. “She is a very talented and skilful player, a player that you wouldn’t want to play against yourself. She brings a world class attitude and quality that are vital to our team.”

“I really like the team and our manager Joe is amazing and I learn a lot from him,” said Danielle. “We want to win prizes and I think we’ve got something good going on here.”

We spoke to DvD immediately after Sunday’s 5-1 win at Liverpool, an interview you can read here. We also spoke to her back in November in our monthly feature interview on a typical week in the life of an Arsenal Women player.

Excellent! Another morale boosting move by Joe.
Can we extend Tabea’s contract too so that she actually gets to play?

Stillberto

Alas Tabea only has a 2 year leave of absence from the Potsdam police force, só she’ll definitely not be able to extend.

Peter Story Teller

Yeah I know but surely being a professional footballer is more fun than Policewoman!

Chris Humphrey

Does that meanTabea is around next season or was her’s just a 1 year deal?
Of some of the other overseas girls it is understood that Viki is not likely to be offered a new deal but Lia Walti is key (subject to her “4 week” knee injury not morphing into something worse!) as is Dom Bloodworth, what an increasing influence she has had as the season has gone on.

Peter Story Teller

I believe Tabea signed for 2 years so she’ll be with us next season. I agree Lia is very much an influential player without making the headlines. We need to hang on to her and Dominique has really stepped up to the mark since Jordan’s unfortunate injury.

Fun Gunner

Su-perb! Is this quite soon after her last extension?

Peter Story Teller

Yes DvD signed a new deal last summer but now has an extension.
I really like what I see at the moment. For a few seasons after Vic Akers handed over the reigns the team were in the duldrums a bit but now not only has the team been rebuilt but truely world class players want to play for Arsenal.

Chris Humphrey

Agree wholeheartedly. If only the Men’s Club had acted as decisively in their player contract negotiations (and manager change!!).
One assumes that Joe is the instigator behind all this contract extention activity to give a psychological boost to the title chase.

Katie McCabe new contract = winner v Brum
QED?

Peter Story Teller

Definitely! A tough day at the office but these are the sort of games champions win.
