Miedema Hat Trick Keeps Gunners WSL Quest On Track (With Goal Clips)

Arsenal Women kept their WSL title hopes on course with a 4-0 win at home to Bristol City on Thursday night. Vivianne Miedema opened the scoring in the first half, before completing her 4th hat trick of the season in the second half. Ireland captain Katie McCabe was also on the scoresheet to complete a second 4-0 win over Bristol this season.

Arsenal were also boosted by the return of Danielle Carter, who came off the bench in the second half for her first appearance since rupturing her cruciate ligament at Bristol last May. Carter saw a late shot crash against the cross bar. Viki Schnaderbeck was also on the bench for the first time, after tearing knee ligaments in August and Jess Samuelsson also returned after breaking her foot for a second time in just over a year.

The win means the Gunners are two points behind leaders Manchester City at the top of the WSL with two games in hand. The first of those games in hand takes place next Sunday away at Liverpool at Prenton Park. The game is being screened live on BT Sport 1. If Montemurro’s side win their next 4 games, they will be crowned champions ahead of Manchester City’s visit to Meadow Park on the final day of the season.

The goals from last night are featured below.

Was good watching the ladies last night…

Well done Arsenal Women.

And it’s good to see our long term injured players return to action.

Now lets go and win the league.

That first touch on the second Viviema goal! Magical.

Canon Fodder

I’m so glad that with have Carter back considering all the injuries we’ve had.

It’s great that Dan is back and good to see Jess and Viki being available too so presumably they’re not far away from a game.
57 goals and counting with 5 games to play. Just imagine how the rest of WSL will be decimated if our whole squad is fit for an entire season!

What a champion Miedema is. POTY without a shadow of a doubt.

Fun Gunner

What would we do without Viv?

Fantastic from the girls. Win v Liverpool and we’re back on top of the league. Come on you Gunners!

Plaudits to Vivianne yes she deserves it. Only her third was a simple touch in that you would expect a striker to tuck away her first two were something else!
Credit to Katie too for keeping her head once she had made the defensive line look stupid and of course Meado for yet another assist.
Strange she normally scores herself from that position!

Chris Humphrey

I got gifted tickets for the Emirates but my head was at Meadow Park! Well done ladies on a job well done. Welcome back Dan C & Jess. Looks like Vikki is not far away from her debut too…..oh, congratulations to Mel Filis, Ruby Grant & Gracie Pearse for their England U17 call ups for the Euros. All looks good.
