Ozil returns, Laca and Auba start up top: Arsenal v Valencia team news

Arsenal take on Valencia this evening in our Europa League semi-final first leg. Can we secure the kind of win that will give us confidence going into the away leg, or will our recent poor form continue?

Let’s hope it’s the former! Here are tonight’s official line-ups.

Arsenal: Cech, Mustafi, Sokratis, Koscielny, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Kolasinac, Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette

Subs: Leno, Elneny, Mkhitaryan, Torreira, Iwobi, Monreal, Nketiah

Valencia: Neto, Roncaglia, Gabriel, Guedes, Soler, Parejo, Diakhaby, Gaya, Rodrigo, Piccini, Garay

Subs: Domenech, Gameiro, Lato, Wass, Torres, Mina, Sobrino

Love the line up. If our attack delivers ion see why we can’t do them a number!

Gunner in Canada

Why 3 at the back ? We need to produce a win, with goals scored, not play for a draw. Iwobi for Mustafi

David C

I would have put Torreira in for Guen and Monreal for Mistakey

Lou G

Mistakey ?

Jack

Good to see Mkhitaryan and Iwobi on the bench. The latter might be good to bring on near the end when Valencia are a bit more tired

BODMAS

COYG. 3 GOALS AND DO NOT CONCEDE ANY.

arsepedant

Come on lads, let’s get this done! Let’s everybody have a great game today!

GoonerDane

Well, except for Valencia

Paul Roberts

Looks good but so have the recent lineups! ? COYG!

JeremyDG

I’m ready for another night of Mustafi and Xhaka being dense, Guendouzi falling over, Ozil disappearing and Kolasinac aimlessly thumping the ball into the box. Change the record and prove me wrong Arsenal.

Jean Ralphio

Mustafi and Xhaka to score now you’ve said that

JeremyDG

I would love that.

John bull

Support the players and the team … get behind them 100% , see how Liverpool and Spurs fans support theirs , do not abuse your own team players

JeremyDG

They have all my support if they work hard and don’t make the same mistakes. Win or lose.

Martin

Well you’re wrong. Xhaka has been excellent this season and had an assist tonight. Mustafi played well by his standards and OIl also played his part. Kolasanic cross for a goal. 3-1 not a bad score.

Vonnie

That’s probably the strongest team we have at the moment, Monreal is probably not quite fit. If we play proper attacking football and not this cowardly shit that Emery keeps trying we should be able to win this.

Grumbleduke

COYG! Let’s pay Valencia back for selling us mustafi. 3 – 0 tonight

Hantal

I hope the continued selection of Cech goes beyond sentimentalism, we should be playing our number one keeper

Martin

Cech has been great in the Europa League and technically as good if not better than Leno. Remember we beat Chelsea in Fa Cup Final with Ospina in goal and Cech is certainly a class above him

Frog

Great! I was hoping Mustafi would start. Heh

teesho27

“or will our recent poor form continue?” Was that necessary?

Anonymarse

I have a sneaking suspicion we’ll do better in this one

teesho27

Maybe Mustafi will realize he plays for Arsenal now.

Mesut O'Neill

If he thinks he still plays for Valencia, he might actually find a few Arsenal players with passes.

Ross

Woeful…..7 defensive outfield players at home and the other 3 will hardly touch the ball and no press…

Gooner Dave

That pretty much sums up our night in 19 words

SLC Gooner

Other than the question of Guend vs Torriera, I don’t know that I’d do much different, and Torriera hasn’t looked like he did in first half of the season.

BubbaGooner

At one point this season we were very good at home.

Patrick

Just hoping the lads takes all the points and good goal margin in the second leg

Futsboller

If Valencia can’t figure out our means of (limited) attack in this one and shut it down, we can probably count on a final after all. 3-4-1-2 for a home match of this importance? Guess we can’t doubt the Europa League king, until we can.

UpNorth

Feel a bit sorry for Emery, his central options with Ramsey out are to choose between bad and worse.
Guendouzi is a player for the future and not a starter in a semi-final and Xhaka is basically not good enough. A top class central midfielder must be able to move both himself and tha ball fast, he dont do either. Would like to see AMN in midfield soon

Billy Bob

Well aside from gifting that lot a goal the first half wasn’t too bad but would be happy if we could score another two but not let anymore in!!! What are the chances though!!!

Hantal

3-1 looks good even if it could easily have been 5-5
